fairy tales and beyond

IMG_1277

Many of you will remember the story of Cinderella and the glass shoes.  It has been interesting over the years watching as  the storylines that are shown, in the “romantic” interest themes are so different.  Today’s young do not wait for their prince charming to come and rescue them from their life of toil and grime.

I felt the hurt, a couldn’t stop the single tear from falling

you saw my pain, and gently wiped it dry

IMG_1273

We played with dolls, we dressed them, told them stories, cared for them, till the time came, when they were put on a shelf, and left there to amuse themselves, they were part of our past.

we fell in love, every day was sun filled

I walked on air and saw every petal of the single rose

you brought to me each day

IMG_1268

I dried the petals and safely tucked them away

I knew I would keep and cherish them all my days

Time changes us, sometimes we stay on the same path that our love is on, and often times, as the world opens up to us, we find ourselves in different parts of the city, coming home only to eat, sleep and then we return to the life we have in another part of the “world’…. yes world, because the world we shared with someone at a different time and space,  is now no longer where our daily focus is.. Our world has gotten bigger and with it, our thoughts and wants are no longer the same.

One day I asked myself, what was in that pretty vase

for I had long gone past the time

when it was part of what I did that mattered  in my every day.

Some of us, can smile, remember the memory and move on.  We clean out the vase, and either give it away, or put it to another use … something more in step with how we are … today…

Once upon a time

Like what is that!  That is a picture of my fossil purse, (texture)  I bought this one a couple of years ago while wandering downtown in a high-end shopping outlet that draws  tourists.  It was a purchase that I made in one of my “gotta have” moments.  No real reason or rhyme, I just really  took to the bag.  It wasn’t even a style that went with “my lifestyle” or manner of dress.  I just liked it.. it was one of the moments where you see something and .. you don’t think of the price, or what you’ll do with, how you’ll incorporate into your wardrobe.. you just buy it and bring it home.

IMG_1346

These are pictures of clocks I found but resisted.  I stood there and considered them, appreciated them, but didn’t get to the stage where I REALLY wanted them.. so I took their pictures instead.

IMG_1347

Now what does that tell you, have I changed my shopping M.O.  noooo, just found an easier way to enjoy some of the treasures I find, and not end up with a lot of clutter, “just because”

IMG_1348

I also discovered Jo-Annes, I knew the one store, but had not experienced the store in a bigger city centre… had a great time.. here I did come out with a rather full bag of goodies. The fact that I was unable to use my  lap top for most of my time away, contributed a lot to the items I was gathering since they are tools of the trade, that fuel my creativity in a manner that will bring in extra pennies. =^_^=

IMG_1343

I found these interesting, who and how can anyone wear such high heels.  Gone are those days for me, I did find the decoration down the back of the heel fun, so they made the photo capture, and so did this little doll.   cute as a button, but certainly not something i was going to come home with.

IMG_1231

Now this cheerful little fellow, he was cute too.  Since I have a friend who delights in rooting for the Flyers, I only thought it fitting to perhaps, send some Penguin cheer his way, for those of you reading this, Flyers and Penguins are hockey teams.  I think the Penguins are doing well???  obiously they are a happy lot. IMG_1255

I can see all my friends out there, chuckling over my time away with that knowing.. there she goes again, shopping… Ha.. on you.  I wasn’t shopping I was on a photo excursion.  Let me look, I’ll show you a picture that had nothing to do with being in a treasure shop.

IMG_1330

This was a charming church we found on our way from Syracuse to Watertown, It appealed to me enough that we circled around and parked so I could catch it for you.  You were on my mind all the time.. always, I was looking for subjects that could or might interest you. (really)  nooo you did not see the sign on the ground, besides the shop was closed.

IMG_1326

Really we had a great time and weather, except for when we tried to see the falls, in Niagara Falls, both Canadian side and American,  There we encountered rain mist, fog, clouds, etc. so thick that we saw absolutely nothing of the falls themselves.

IMG_1225

.. I missed reading your posts, following along on your adventures, discovering new far away places, that those of you who are travelling keep us  waiting for the next chapter and verse with delightful captures. I obviously have more pictures, but there is lots of time ahead.  For now just wanted to say I’m back.  Oh and quickly, I discovered on the Canadian side, another one of those designer outlet malls, and… err… I now own another purse like the one I started this blog with.. only in blue.  I was over the moon.. really.. Canadian funds even!!!!

The only vintage cars I found this time, were models, good ones, but not good enough to bring back with me.

bears, down time

Hanging out, chilling, doing whatever comes along… it took me awhile to achieve this.. I grew up when being idle meant you had nothing to do, therefore, a parent seemed to feel it was necessary to find you something to do.  And/or, during the academic years, one was supposed to be studying and applying what time we had to achievements, goals, etc.

bear, scratching his back

I am grown up now, and I can scratch my own back. (should I need to).  We leave tomorrow for a road trip, therefore, I will not be sharing time with you till my return.  I could I guess take the electronic gear I require to stay in touch, however, I’ll be busy collecting and shuffling my thoughts and ideas, so that when I come back, I’ll hit the ground running.  Besides I’ve learned in life, that friends who are true, will be there for you when you need them, Since I have learned to like myself, I now appreciate and value my friends even more.  You understand, how important it is to “let go” and live, love..  Love is being alive.

bear,brown

You’ve seen this guy before I like to keep him handy, cuz he reminds me that taking time to chill, is alright, and the more you allow time to nurture your inner Self, the stronger, and happier you become.  I like being happy.  Sharing with you makes me very happy, Have fun, enjoy the coming days, let your creative energy soar, I look forward to catching up when I return.

I drove by and had to stop

your beauty caught my breath

…. I just knew … I wanted more

parking the truck,

I carefully got out and walked across the  layers of

crystalized ice that lay on the path

would I get to you in time

or would the bright noon day sunlight  ..

soon….temporarily be covered by a cloud

IMG_1182

I am closer now,  and I can see that the mantle of glistening ice

every little space has been

covered by frozen droplets of ice

not so nice to walk on

but it certainly has graced your outline

with a gem like brilliance …

… be assured that I will share

 this moment in the sun

for unlike many others

I do not see you as menace

but rather …  a mischievous winter elf

who threw diamond droplets

into the frigid air

giving us a glimpse of

a miniature  wonderland

where wee folk enjoy their winter play

Note – when I first saw this snow, I was driving in so I saw it from a different angle,  when I parked I had to go further into the lot.   Walking back to the  “sight that caught my eye”  I was struck by how beautiful it was from this direction too.  In drawing closer, the highly defined shapes I had seen driving in, were not the same, so I tried to walk around to see what I had seen on driving in,

Fact… the moment had passed.  for me to get the exact picture, I should have stopped the truck, right then and there, either put the passenger window down and tried to capture it then, BUT  had I gotten out of the truck it wouldn’t have worked either because my sight line was at a different level. Don’t you love the BUT moments.

IMG_1178

All said and done.  I took my pictures, and checked them out when I got home.. What you see when you are standing right there.. at that moment… is not always what your camera captures.  In this case… almost, but not quite.. why.. because the actually brilliance and shading that were true to my naked eye, did not or were not picked up in the same way by the camera’s lens

LIFE is ART….   PL Precept #1   Life is Art.

The situations we find ourselves in, every day, are much like I described above. No two people will ever see the exact same thing.. they may on an overall big picture, show and tell.  But each person responds to the stimuli in her/his own way.  If they were both able to capture it in a photo, the two photos would not be exactly the same.

We accept these difference in every day, situations, why do we have such a hard time, accepting when friends or loved ones, “see” life’s experiences in a different way than ours.  “Food for thought”

looking back

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

It really was just another day on the road.  We stopped, and I got this feeling that we were being watched.  You cannot see in this picture, but in the darkness of the woodlands, was a deer checking us out….  well ok, I can’t say for sure it was a deer, but it had four legs, and piercing eyes.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

I tried for another look, at that time I was using a digital Minolta, I confess that I am not a stealthy hunter when I cross over brush and fallen logs to get a closer look.  At the time, I didn’t know about  phone cameras where I could see what I was stalking.  It is in clearing an area on a shelf for a new acquisition ( an airplane clock) that I found the delinquent disk, with pictures from “another time”- labelled Bancroft.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

From the pictures of the interior of the darkened woodland, I see I was determined .. and was not going to just walk away.  I’m  happy to say that this stubborn streak is still with me, much to the chagrin of others.   Now looking back many years later, what I have to show for this adventure of mine, is pictures of a forest woodland that held on to its mystery and mystic, why share the pictures, it’s a case of you had to be there… really there to appreciate the moment. =^_^=

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA  – gone gone gone, replaced many moons ago.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

I have no idea what this last picture is all about, but decided to include it since there is so much black in the other pictures.  As a photographer, you have to accept that some of your artist captures, are not always, A1, but for sure, they all capture that moment in time, when you thought Ah Ha….

some one, or some thing

watched in the shadow of the trees

drawn to the feeling of being watched

I let myself be captured by the slight movement of the leaves

as always when totally caught up in the moment

my heart did a little dance

my sense of awareness went into over drive

would we connect

would my lens find its mark

no matter, I had to pursue my  need

to capture what I couldn’t really see

this adrenalin is pure, it comes from within

the artist in me is alert

for in a nano second, I’ll press connect

to the instrument in my hands

the moment passes, the thrill happened

will the climax be complete

when I look at the

picture on the screen

no matter what

I lived the moment

and the picture

that I will see

will be

a forever reminder

that in that second

I was part of life

in that space and time

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Do you believe that you are always connected to the Universe, and that, there are times, you are drawn to produce, or create something, because it just feels right..?  I believe that we are all artists in our own way, sometimes, what we do, is clear, the picture, a “master piece”  It conveys something to the artist and the viewers alike.  Other times, it is a reflection of a moment that came and went.  No more, no less.

Taste, delight & savour

IMG_1167

Sauted black fungus and mixed vegetables…The veggies are done just right, with a  crispness to them, and the sauce is light not drowning in starch and sugars. Looks good, and it is.

IMG_1168

There is a whole array of salads too, some very nice ones, but I skip those,  in the background you see, just beyond the  customer is a whole delight of cooked dishes.  There is a plate of scallops that my friends delight in, they are plump lightly breaded with not a hint of “fried”  Next to that dish, you will find the  different noodle dishes and I believe that is where the fried rice is for the North American taste buds.  BUT to the right of that customer, is also two dishes that I find hard to resist, One is green beans stir fried and tossed with a few sesame seeds, I pile as much of that as I can over my other goodies.  In front of that dish is a mixed veggie dish that I supplement my other choices with.

eclipse 2

From this side of my plate, you can see the green beans, and the crisp broccoli, on the top to the left is salt and pepper fish, the dumpling on the right there is a pot sticker, and under the broccoli is a small piece  salt and pepper pork .. the stick you see, holds a wonderfully roasted piece of chicken, moist and succulent.

eclipse

This side of my plate shows you the  larger helping of black fungus and veggies.   Buried under all of that is freshly steamed Basa fish, a nice big slab of it. Note, no rice, no noodles. You can’t see it, but I likely have a couple of sushi there too.  They have a good sushi cook and serve some traditional sushi, not North American …

IMG_1169

All this side of that round server going around to the right there, where the customers are, is DESSERT.   The counter on the right is where the steamed or baked fish dishes are. You can not see that portion because of the back of the bench.  Sorry.. behind the bench is another serving area, of ice creams. Off to the left or other dishes, and the server behind the benches on the left, holds the soups, and more steamed dumplings and Chinese steamed spare ribs in a garlic and black bean sauce.

IMG_1154

You are witness …. I did have dessert.  that cake  or whatever it is on the left is to die for.. it melts in your mouth, it is like a whipped cream, only the colour of pistachio.. the square on the right is mouth drooling tasty, it looks innocent, but oh wow it is good, and so is that silly looking cup of  what you think is a little bit of pudding,  I’m not usually a dessert person, so I cannot tell you what they are, just that I will go back for more.  The little macaroon didn’t stand a chance next to the other goodies, it was good, but… hands down on the green whatever it was.( looked like a cake)

All this to say….. seize the moment………live each day making choices that you will enjoy….. choose wisely, but get out there,  try new challenges..

In Pl, we have a Principle, PL Principle #13  – Concerning food, I will not have complaints, likes and dislikes, nor preferences; nor will I overeat, over drink, nor eat irregularly

Not easy peasy all the time to follow… in this case… I did my best to choose wisely, I didn’t waste, I ate what I picked, taking only a bit of this and that, meant that should something not please my palate, I could still eat it.. and I do try different dishes.  Some I do not have because I won’t like them, but because I know they will affect my sugar levels.  Eating moderately means that I can enjoy these buffets, and not suffer later.

Delight in what you eat.

Such wisdom has been around for a very long time, why do we have so much trouble really practicing it in our daily lives?

Some people love a cruise, personally this is still on my bucket list. Yuppers, I’d prefer to do it solo with no one else around, but… it looks like this is a trail that is well-known and I am not alone in wanting to experience it.  Who discovered this trail and marked it for us?  What a “high” that had to have been.

Zion National Park Utah

This awesome capture was in Zion National Park, It was taken by photographer Long Nguyen, posted in 500px.  When I come across some of the amazing work of the photographers (artists) that search out their passions and capture them to share with us, I am so grateful to them for their skill at translating their experience into a visual format that I can enjoy and share in.

OK.. I want to visit here.  Does anyone know where this was taken, the photographer was Petr Marek,  the picture was posted on Fivehundredpx, the trail brought me to his pictures but aside from the title, Stairway to Heaven, there was no other info.??? anyway??  and yes, another for my bucket list.  could take me a while though, and I wouldn’t run up./P

a quiet interlude

cave,Fingal's in Scotland Isle of Staffa

Fingal’s Cave off the coast of Scotland

Good Morning, thought I’d share a little more of yesterday’s experience.  Like many others around me, I live life at a rather “active” pace.  True not always, I know to take breaks, and  have a slow down time, the key words here, are I know… just because I know, doesn’t mean that I do it.  I was happy yesterday to disrobe and get on the waiting table in the small room I’d been assigned to.  Nothing magical, just a quiet place, soothing music and the implements used for doing facials.  The table was the ordinary table used in spas, and salons all over.  The table had been prepared, the colours of the towels and sheets were calm, soothing colours, the terry towels were big a fluffy.  Already I could feel myself relaxing, and when I slipped unto the table and felt the warmth on my back (the table was heated) I knew I had made a good choice.

Our minds are chatty little characters,  often even if we want to rest and know we are tired, the little voice just keeps babbling away at times like a broken record. I closed my eyes, letting the moment surround me.  I was getting a holistic facial, the herbal fragrances were intoxicating, never mind the knowing trained hands working their magic. My mind began to still, my thoughts drifted into quiet spaces that’s I’d found along the way and wanted to explore.

cave, Greece

Melissani Cave, Greece

There is no rhyme or reason for where the thoughts will drift.  The mind and body are strongly connected and tuned to one another.  When the body begins to let go and release pent-up stress, the mind feeling less smothered and pressured, will also relax.  Being able to find, quiet moments where the body truly let’s go of the daily ritual of “activity” is an awesome experience.  It really truly is.

IMG_1150 - Copy

The promise of spring, a new season, when we see the first signs of new growth peaking through the soil…. this is rejuvenation.  we see it and we love the discovery, it is pleasing, it is a new moment. Our bodies deserve the same care and attention that we give to our gardens, our hobbies, crafts, work, it is ours.

IMG_1147 - Copy

When we invest in ourselves, in having a facial, a massage, a skin and body treatment, we are looking after ourselves, the part of us that often is taken for granted until it nudges and pushes back at us.

PL Precept# 20   Live Maintaining Equilibrium between Mind and Matter

Having a quiet interlude, enjoying the moment, was a re-energizing experience.  I had booked a full hour of body massage after the facial, needless to say, my mind took itself to exactly where it wanted to be…. my smile was a mile wide… total immersion in a happy reverie is good for the soul, you really should try it.

crocus in snow

Namaste      –      Oyashikiri

ps. am I still smiling, you betcha!

sharing

I saw that today, there was a challenge on winter gardens…  right.. I grabbed my trusty picture-taking phone and out the back door I went.  I could hear the muttering of the roofers two doors over, we’ve had a lot of snow, the house has a flat roof, there is a pressing need to get the snow off that roof.  Yesterday was mild, today it is a totally different story.

Humour me, I’ve found a clip that sounds a bit like the conversation I overheard, only this one is between a parrot who doesn’t want to go the vet and his owner.

We all recognize the attitude, it is not going to get the cockatoo anywhere, but he has to express himself, no matter what.  The funny thing is he has no idea what he is saying, but he knows that sounding off is expressing himself.  And he wants the whole room to know he is not happy about going out in his cage.  That clip got over 8 million hits on YouTube, a lot of people have enjoyed his antics.

When “we” allow ourselves to cut loose, let fly, we don’t always get over it as easily as Maxwell will.  Humans can hold a grudge, and many do.  then it is not a laughing matter…. when we spend time in a negative state of mind, we are missing out on being Happy.

PL Precept #  4    Being annoyed limits your expression

PL Precept # 5   One’s self is lost by bring emotional

As you can see the sun is out in full force, the snow is hard, crispy, and not in a hurry to leave.  So instead I’ve shown you the shadows on the fence.
