choices

DSC00006

Every day we are faced with choices.  Some are small, and routine, done on a regular basis, like when we shop for food.   What we are looking for will determine where we go to shop.

DSC00005

What appeals to one shopper will be passed by, by another. I have waited while a customer before me, goes over every bag, weighing it, turning it so that he/she is able to see all produce in the bag.

DSC00004

Even once we’ve picked out the product we will take home with us, no two people will cook that one product in the same way.  That is why there is such a great variety of restaurants as well.   Though they may offer the same basic dishes, how they are cooked and served, could be oceans apart.  When it comes to food, almost everyone I know, is willing to try something different and will dig in and enjoy a cuisine from a different culture.  Diversity is a welcome change.

DSC00007

Why then, do we draw a line, or seem to be so black or white, when it comes to choices we make about our social environment?  Or cultural divides?  A very close someone in my life, will eat carrots, but when they came out with “designer” carrots, (different colours) he balked, why…. cuz they didn’t look the same, blind folded, they would taste the same,  but……. Another friend told me her husband wouldn’t eat the new blue potatoes, why… cuz they didn’t look like a potato……………………………………………?????????????

A child is innocent, loving, trusting, …  they  make us all smile with their smiles, and their genuine responses to being loved.  What and why do we change as we advance in years.  What changes us.  WE are shaped by the choices we make in life.  Choose wisely.  Put your full makoto (sincerity) in all you say and do.

Cherokee native morning song

Good morning on yet another sun filled day.  Going through my morning mail I had the pleasure of finding this beautiful piece of music.  As I enjoyed the ambiance it surrounded me with, I thought about Ancestors’ Day, in Perfect Liberty (PL) it takes place on the 11th of each month.

elder wisdom

Through this ceremony we express our gratitude for the love and virtues of our ancestors and ask for their protection and guidance se we can continue to live the PL Way.  In today’s world, it also embraces our friends, mentors, peers, all those who have through their interaction with us, have helped us understand life, and grow in a positive and meaningful way.  This ceremony is performed every 11th. at 10 am. in the church.  All ar welcome to join us.

Someone once wrote that they discovered that talking to people anywhere, whether on plans, trains, busses, standing in line at the supermarket, being open to listen, to share, smile… often turns into a valuable lesson.

When we live the PL Way,(with GOD) we always have the JOY and AWARENESS that is not affected by life’s ups and downs.

El estar ocupado es gratificante

It is a Blessing to be Busy!

Madagasgar

Oh come on now, really?

yes really, I am at my best

when I can be on the go, exploring, doing

Ah, you don’t mean work, 9- 5

Of course I do

when I am busy, I feel good, I love seeing the results of my efforts

True, nothing is “always” fun,

but doing something, accomplishing something I’ve set out to do

that is rewarding

When we live to enjoy each moment, no matter what we are doing

we discover our strengths and get to use our creativity

Cuz, like we say in PL, Life is Art (Precept #1)

“Alegrese de estar muy atareado y procure estarlo siempre.

El hecho de estar ocupado

es una evidencia de ser querido por Dios

It is a Blessing to be Busy

Enjoy being busy and continue to seek more work

Being busy is God’s way of showing you, that you are loved”.

quote in green – PL Calendar 2016 #18

1 sky 2 worlds

When the Lakota leader Sitting Bull was asked by a white reporter why his people loved and respected him, Sitting Bull replied by asking if it was not true that among white people a man is respected because he has many horses, many houses? When the reporter replied that was indeed true, Sitting Bull then said that his people respected him because he kept nothing for himself.” –Joseph Bruchac – Photograph: Orlando Scott GoffGoodSitting Bull, Lakota leader

Good morning everyone, I found this in my research today.  It was posted 4 years ago on the Parabola (The Search for Meaning) site on tumblr.

How well said, and so simply .. it brings us back once more to the individuality of each of us, and how our cultures shape our thinking.

However that said, we are not back living in a time when the differences were not known, researched, studied, and documented.  This is 2016 an electronic age, we can sit in our homes and watch documented reports of what is going on around us.  There are thousands of published reports, books, magazines, videos and spoken story books.  There is no reason for us to not know about our neighbours.

“Before our white brothers arrived to make us civilized men, we didn’t have any kind of prison.
Because of this, we had no delinquents.
Without a prison, there can be no delinquents.
We had no locks nor keys and therefore among us there were no thieves.
When someone was so poor that he couldn’t afford a horse, a tent or a blanket, he would, in that case, receive it all as a gift.
We were too uncivilized to give great importance to private property.
We didn’t know any kind of money and consequently, the value of a human being was not determined by his wealth.
We had no written laws laid down, no lawyers, no politicians, therefore we were not able to cheat and swindle one another.
We were really in bad shape before the white men arrived and I don’t know how to explain how we were able to manage without these fundamental things that (so they tell us) are so necessary for a civilized society.”

Just some food for thought to go along with your coffee.  I find it extremely interesting and thought provoking that no matter who we are, or what our backgrounds are, we ALL strive for peace  and want it in our lives.

mind’s eye

IMG_20150903_094130

Have you  heard that expression before, “in my mind’s eye”… I’ve  had it in my head for years, and have not a clue where it came from.  Just that I will use it at times, just because… in other words, I’ve never been sure of what it means or how it came to be in my vocabulary.

Lately I’ve been making cards for the spring sale coming up at the church.  I use blank cards, card stock, and what ever else I have lying around.  I told you about my using my store receipts for making textured handmade paper and card stocks..using coloured paper, inks, paints etc. I end up with some colourful media to use

I’ve had this one sole earring (ladies you know of what I speak) sitting on my work bench, I just couldn’t seem to throw it out, it has probably been hanging around for over a year. Last night I was looking at some scraps I had and without knowing what I had in mind, I started to fold the gray card stock to make a card… I used the left over patterned print for a border, some cut out shapes, and voila, a home for the earring.

GetAttachment (1)

Sorry, I’ve not photoshopped it, it came all by itself….. when I took the picture (above) last spring when we were visiting a friend  in Gananoque, Ontario, I saw the sculpture and took a picture, because in my “mind’s eye” it would be a good picture.

When we do something, we don’t always know why or what has inspired us.  Sometimes it doesn’t come back to us for days, weeks, and in this case almost a year later.  And again, sometimes we just never get the “connection”

Living life in the moment, means that we are always present, aware of our surroundings and of the people we are interacting with.  The other lesson I’ve learned, but not fully been able to accomplish 100% is to express (create) enjoy the moment, and let go, move on.  How often have I kept a pair of shoes only because I paid such a price for them and even though I’d worn them till they owed me no more. not one single miserly cent.. I’ve held on. even after I bought another pair to replace them.

I am getting better. It didn’t happen over night.. now I try to let go of something, if I bring something new in.  LOL I can hear my husbands eyes rolling in his head as he reads this…. 1st step is knowing what you are doing.. 2nd step is working at correcting that habit or tendency.

In my creativity .. I have always been able to let go… and I never plan something out ahead of time to the extent where I “need” to do something a certain way.  Good examples, I don’t knit or crochet.. I do not like following a pattern.  I love to cook but never follow a recipe.  Each and every one of us is different we are unique in how we live our daily lives.  That is what makes this place (life on earth) such a beautiful adventure.

Please, let us strive to accept and harmonize with those around us ..

time clocks

While not everyone, enjoys surrealistic art, it is so often mind-blowing and fascinating, that it is hard to not look at it, gazing into it, trying to absorb or discover what it is about the picture that draws your attention.  Imagine  the artist who pulled this piece of art together.

art, visual

Being a visual person, I find it fascinating to see what someone else has seen and in turn,  put it out there for me to discover,  It would be nice if we could see into each other’s “head” to see for ourselves what someone else has seen.  however, while the person who puts their visualization to pen or to paint to show us, there is no guarantee that we will see or feel the same emotions and exhilaration that the artist did ………   We are all just so unique.    Yes we sleep, wake up, and eat like everyone else in a manner of speaking… but..what we get out of these actions is different to each of us.

Appreciate each person’s good points

There is  a good and a less positive part to all of us.  As humans we do our best,

but we do, often have to try a few times before we get it right.  Let’s take the time

to strive towards finding the positive in others, and situations we encounter in

and during our daily lives.  In so doing, it will not only enrich our lives but perhaps

bring sunshine and wonder into someone else’s life.

We don’t always know how our actions impact on others.

Share a smile today!  Reach out and share the happiness in your heart..

Love is powerful, it touches us in ways that mortal words cannot describe..

Believe you are loved..each and every one of us is blessed

we need only accept, that love is what makes us ONE.

Always and Forever.

weather -whether

China, snow castle

This is a picture of the Snow Castle built for the Harbin Snow Festival in China.

snow, NY city

A not so much fun time for commuters in NY City after/during a winter storm

Sand storm

How about this, this is a sand storm, never experienced one, and hope not to, this is my first time to even see one

Weather happens, we have absolutely no control on what will appear over the horizon, we can guess, forecast, but the truth is, the world is so big and there are so many factors involved that we are never really sure .. the only certainty is when it happens.  We all know the possibilities, we all have experienced the weather in one form or another.  Sometimes it has been simply blissful, and other times, downright problematic, but we deal with it.  What else can we do.  Rain, or shine, the core of it all … is… we are alive… we are living it.

Each day is a new beginning, it really and truly is.  Yes the weather can be fierce, but it can also be like this.

Canadian Rockies, lodge

For this picture to have been taken, (Emerald Lake Lodge, Canadian Rocky Mountains) there had to have been a snow fall, lots of it. In life, it is our choice to see and dwell on the negatives, or whether we take action, deal with it, and move on.   Whether we like or love the weather, it doesn’t matter, it is here, now and always …. our forever companion through this journey of  ours here on earth.

snow and sun

The sun shines, even when it snows.  So can you.  Whether we are happy or not, that is our decision, and ours alone.  Weather is not the indicator or reason for our “moods”…

snow, loving it

This little critter is basking in the sunlight……….  enjoy

When we live with love in our hearts

we are weather proof

sunshine on a gloomy day, yes!

sunshine

PL Precept # 6  Live as the Sun

Have you ever noticed how even on a gloomy day, if a ray of sunshine comes through the clouds, your mood changes, you look up with appreciation, and sometimes smile.

Life is full of an accumulation of small events/moments. If we go through life focused only on what we consider, big, important things that need our attention.  We miss opportunities to notice other things.  How often do we walk by a neighbour’s house, intent on getting to the bus stop, or to where we are headed.  We don’t see the neighbour unless they speak to us, nor do we see their garden, the flowers… we are on “the go”.  Busy, Busy, Busy.

Our lives are what we make of them,  Our days, nights, how we live them.. we are creating our own unique work of art.

PL Precept # 1   Life is Art

sunshine 2

Be like the sun, bring sun shine into the lives of others, it will radiate back into your own.  Cultivate positive and strong relationships .. When we love with a true and trusting heart, the rewards multiply and happiness becomes the mainstay of every day life.

ligh bulbs

Light bulb moments… we’ve all experienced them from time to time.. that Ahhhh moment… that moment where an awareness goes “smack” and we  wonder how we had missed seeing it before..  Truth be told, we didn’t miss it, our stubborn resistance to it was just too focused on doing either something else, or wanting it to be another way.

Our minds are a cornucopia of wow, super fabulous, mundane and useless thoughts. Some are very creative and helpful and others not.  I like to think of myself as a teacher, I’m bright, I’m helpful I’m  a student of life, who applies and works diligently at working to bring peace and happiness to others …etc.etc…etc..  I’m  a bright light….duh…NOT

light bulb oil lamps

LOL.. when will I learn.. when will I actually practice what I “preach”    When will I tame my stubborn nature, my lazy nature, will it every happen.  Will I always be like the shoe maker who makes and fashions the most beautiful of shoes, and wears run down uncared shoes  him/herself.

In PL we say ” We are all born into this world with a one of a kind personality and Makoto (individuality and unique character) given to us by God.”  In order to do this, it is important that we do so daily,  focusing on expressing our true selves with Makoto (sincerity)

PL precept # 7 – Everything exists in Relativity

PL Principles # 6 I will not be stubborn, being captured by my own thoughts.

light bulb parachutes

Light bulb moment’s happen for a reason, when we realize the lesson they are teaching .. when we grasp (once again) that we are still allowing our “conceit/determination/stubborn nature”  to alter , hasten or remove what IS… try to reflect on the moment, the lesson….. and work to improve… ask yourself why????  why do you do something that you know… because deep down we do know…… that until we do… history will keep repeating itself.
