PL Calendar #23   Appreciate Our Differences

Appreciate the colourful personalities of the people around you and enjoy their uniqueness to the fullest

Life’s journey is never a super highway, it is full of unexpected stops, and detours along the way.  Remember it is not the destination, but the journey itself that is rewarding.  When we are faced with the unexpected, stop and appreciate the diversion, it is  happening for a reason.  The details might not be clear to you at the time, but if we believe, and have faith, God/Universe will see us through. Love is unconditional.  Love sometimes is having to be different.  Let Go… Let God.

sabai sabai

thailand“Sabai sabai”

“A ubiquitous Thai phrase.  it is a greeting, ” like hey man, be cool,” or “take it easy” In Thailand where the people and their customs, are gentle, and a smile is always the way to greet someone, hands  in special position, like a prayer, with a slight low bow.  It seemed like a fitting way to start my greeting to you today.

We have the sunshine today, however, temperatures are in the zero range.  So imagining the sunshine  in Thailand where the weather is “warmer”.. feels good.

I am reading a nook by David Casarett,M.D.  = Murder at the house of Rooster Happiness = the main character is Ladarat Patalung, a nurse who is slowly adding detective to her “talents”   It is a debut book,  one gets to enjoy the sights and sounds of Thailand.  How it ended up in my reading, I don’t remember.  I actually didn’t think I would even be able to still my mind with all that is going on these days, but… wonder..of wonders, it is written in a way that I am drawn to know more about a country I know little about, and learning about customs, and traditions that are interesting.  What a way to travel and enjoy a mystery at the same time.

Seeing life from the perspective of a Thai person, regarding time spent in the USA ..let’s just say.. it made me smile, a lot!!!!

Isn’t that what life is all about, finding moments and ways to bring heart-felt smiles into our daily lives.  When we smile, we pass along our happiness.

africa elephant

The Elephant found in Thailand, is the one also found in India….   an elephant is an elephant to me,  this is a picture I have in my inventory of an elephant, forgive me if there is a distinct difference.

I am feeling an elephant size load of happy today, and want to share it with you.  Being happy is important.. even if it is a struggle to smile, curve those lips and take a nice deep breath.. say to yourself happy happy happy, sabai, sabai… and you will be blessed with a big inner smile.

Till next visit.   sabai, sabai…

PL Calendar day 7

zentangle card woodless colour sticks

Day 7

Don’t Strain, Don’t Rush, and Don’t be Greedy

When you are doing something, my may rush things to get good results quickly.  Instead relax and enjoy the process (PL, Perfect Liberty)

origami 3.4.18Remember this from yesterday.  I loved the simplicity of it, I wanted to do it.  To make it easier on myself, I asked the minister’s wife if she could please show me how to do it. Being a visual person, I do better when I see something done  (when it is totally foreign to me and origami is)  Her patience at folding the paper, and refolding to ensure that I was seeing where I had to turn the paper, how to fold a crease etc. was calming.

I didn’t know that I was so  hesitant to do it wrong, that I wouldn’t even try until I saw her do it.  The she patiently led me through the steps, one by one.

Me, “miss get it done” was learning something new,  I doubt it is something I will ever excel in, but I did it.  I have an artistic bent as you all know.  The mediums I do best in, are media that work WITH me, for example, my “style” of work, and my need to watch the process develop (I am getting better) finds me working with acrylic and water paints. Oils and I have not clicked over the years.  Yet I do work with mediums that require over night drying…I’ve never taken to oils.

This lesson has a lot to “say” to me. I know that I will do my best to apply myself to practicing the wisdom in this lesson.

I will do my best.. that is all any of us can do.

Have a good day everyone.. LOVE and Blessings.

dolls – thrift finds

img_0245.jpgI found a YouTube video the other day that showed how to shrink a doll’s head.  It is amazing what one finds on YouTube.  Although I had heard about custom dolls, and I saw finished products on eBay and the like, this was my first “how to” video on how to shrink the dolls head.  How doll artist were taking thrift store finds and recreating them into super models, fashion models, fantasy characters.

IMG_0244

This got me thinking. I knew I had or could have some interesting dolls to play with should I want to try this technique.  However, to shrink a head, I would need a doll with a wider face.

The other information I got was on how to take off all the make up that was  factory applied.  That meant I could redo their faces into any other kind of face that appealed to me when I started to reconstruct the doll.  These artist not only redo the face, they change the whole makeup from head to toe.

The doll on the far left will be a good candidate because her leg is broken at the knee.  She needs a new leg, someone had tried unsuccessfully to perhaps undress her and snapped her knee at the ball joint, it is ruined, unless I can dig out the broken stem.  If I replace the leg and totally repaint her, the different skin tones won’t matter.

IMG_0243

The Monster High Dolls, I love their faces,  so doubt I would play around with them, I have a collection of these little ladies that are just waiting for me to get to them to clean them up.

The two dolls on the end of the middle picture, I don’t know them, when you move their bent arm, they talk.  Actually the three of them, are not of too much interest to me, only the one I want to “change”.  Sometimes it is not till you get them home and have a good look them, that attraction either holds or it doesn’t.

Isn’t that what life is like too.  We think we want something, and we go in search of, and find what we think we want, only to discover when we have had time to be with the “object” or in the situation we thought we would enjoy… that we go.. “What!!!”

Time is a factor in all of this.. In 24 hours your mind can go through many warren holes and different doors.  Seen and taken in, sights and sounds, it hadn’t known when your first impulse came .. or an idea formed.

On the other hand, when you act on the spur of the moment, you can find that ..  “wow, that was a wasted effort”  That is what makes life so interesting, it can be so unpredictable, and if you say.. ” life is the same, day in and day out”  then my friend, you need a new viewer.

The only constant in life is change.  Think carefully, you are not the same person, from one day to the other.  The change might be miniscule, but change there is.

From me to you… have a great day.. be kind to one another, share a smile, say hello!

sleepless in

piglet bedtime Thursday 22I want to cheerfully say…

Good Morning everyone… however, having been awoken to activity, and then have 2 full-grown whippets try to snuggle down with me.. ((((who let me add, wanted their breakfast))))  shall we just say, “happy Saturday” and get up to meet the day.

I know you have met little Piglet, but I have been working on texture, I think that you are able to glimpse it. What you can’t see is Piglet’s nose is shiny, with a wet look.  I’d love to know what is at the bottom of the cup, she seems so pleased with herself.  From the smudges on her face, ?? anyway, she seems happy.  That is all we can ask for isn’t it. A happy Piglet.

In life there are circumstances we can control, and other’s we can’t.  A wise person once said, “know when to pick your battles”

Today’s PL Calendar page reads,   “Listen” and “See” With Careful Attention and Accept Each Other.

“Focus your “eyes” and “ears” towards the expression of others without any preconceived notions.  Then you will be able to see their true intentions.”

card 1.1.18

I like this card, I no longer have it, but still have this picture .. Makes me smile, YOU make me smile,  Let us all have a day where we share our happiness with others.

crossing the road

Africa - Leopard tortoise

leopard  tortoise meandering along on his/her way, likely oblivious to the spectators following his journey.  It’s intent is to get to where it is going.

In the pouring rain today, sirens could be heard coming from different directions as I made my way across the city.  It was a constant downpour, so I wasn’t hurrying. I simply pointed myself in the direction I was headed, and followed the traffic in front of me, mindful of the speed limits and the traffic lights.

From the news this evening, I learned that in the early part of the day, there had been a lot of accidents with cars, trucks school buses going off the road and highways  due to the slippery conditions.  The usual pictures of vehicles in the ditch and the complaining that the darn weather was the cause of everything that happened.

I, like the tortoise accept that we live on this beautiful multi-facetted planet.. .. we are responsible for our actions. When one foot goes in front of the other, or a direction is taken, we are moving, it is me, myself and I  making the choices that move me through the day.

It is not the weather that had me leave the house without an umbrella, it was a choice I made to leave without one.  If I am walking along the road and it is so wet that the puddles are like small lakes, I have to know that a car could go by and I will be drenched.  It is not the car’s fault if I do get splashed.  That’s life.

Does that sound callous, I don’t mean to, it is just that life is what it is, and wet weather is part of living on this earth.  Winter in some countries means, snow, cooler weather, and slippery roads.  It is life.  If you know you have to deal with such things, why is it a surprise when winter weather  does what it does. If you have lived here for a lifetime, then, it happens every year.  It is not something new.

Happiness is a state of mind we choose to live in.  If you decide that negativity is all you see around you, then perhaps you need to re-evaluate  what you do with the positives that come your way.   Because positives are out there.

When we are able to have a thankful attitude, when we appreciate what we have and not dwell on what we don’t have, our perspective on life will change.  We will grow as individuals.  Our lives will move in a positive direction.

The 21st of each month, is Thanksgiving in PL (Perfect Liberty) – Let us be thankful for all the blessings we have received this past month.  Giving thanks, and showing appreciation, we move forward into tomorrow. Hearts open to unconditional love.

being YOU

africa hippo rhino

Remember the saying, “the glass is either half full” or “the glass is half empty”  Is this fellow walking on the bottom, or is he coming up for air.  Some days it is hard to tell, if its a good day, or we are just used to the “ambience” and tempo.

“I am so busy” I heard someone say, ” I just can’t get anything done”

I would wonder, then what have they been doing that they are so busy. If we are focused on the moment, then each moment we live through, is an accomplishment.  When we go out to lunch, after we have had our lunch, didn’t we accomplish what we set out to do. We ate lunch.  We actually “do” things all day.  Is it that we don’t acknowledge our accomplishments, that we are always looking ahead, and not satisfied with the present?

Have I been listening to too much Pi.   Unless you have heard of the book, seen the film or listened to the CD  you might not recognize my reference.  That’s OK, my musing can be confusing.  Life of Pi

PL calendar day 20    You are YOU, Others are Others

You have your own way of doing things, and others have their way of doing things. Don’t worry about what other people will say.  Simply take care of the task at hand.

Can you believe we are already mid month.  Please have yourself a grand day tomorrow.  Enjoy it to the fullest.  Make each moment count.  A moment wasted on negative energy, is a moment you are not smiling.  Happiness makes for a great day.

When you smile, others will too.

a winter’s day

winchester fog

Driving through the take out lane, I saw the fog was lifting. earlier, not even an hour or so, I could see only two car lengths  in front of me

I was heading back towards the city now,  with each passing mile, the sky got brighter

building across from po

bright enough, that I thought to stop to take a picture.  Usually I am driving by this site during the work day, and the road is just too busy.  I may have mentioned that I have been wanting to get a picture before the whole building disappears.  It has happened before, I am driving  along a road I travel many times a week when suddenly I realize that a building has disappeared.

The world around me is in constant flux.  For some reason, the demolition, began at a time that for whatever reason, I missed it.  I happened to go to the post office one day (it is across from this location) and when I drove out, it was a “WOW when did that happen???”  That was in the fall, and here it is February of the following year, and there it still stands.

building across from post office

I did see an opening in the fence.  However, my common sense, held me in check.  No hard hat, and not wearing my steel toed footwear.  Maybe I’ll get a chance another day. LOL if I were to find rust I would be in 7th heaven.

This adventure took place last week, today, I am looking forward to what’s ahead.

PL Calendar 18    Look Forward to What’s Ahead.

There is no use brooding over the past.  Always try to begin each day anew with a fresh outlook.

What a good teaching to start a new week.  Hope everyone is enjoying a long week-end, and is revving up for a stunning brand new week.
