Sunday moment

It is not fun to be stuck in one place. Instead of being captured by what’s in front of you, strive to broaden your horizons.

I picked up a magazine the other day to put in the bag i was putting together for the charity shop, I saw that I had a book mark on a page. ID your strengths… I must have been going to revisit the page. I had had good intentions.. date of the little magazine was 2021, January.

My eyes lingered on the one block on the page of strength, the issues was January so it is when everyone is looking at challenges we faced in the previous year and what lessons had we learned etc. It is an interesting list. I’ll share it with you.

Appreciation of beauty and excellence ……………. Kindness …………………. Leadership …………

Bravery ……… Love……….. creativity ……………… love of learning …….. curiosity ……… perseverance ………..

fairness ……. Perspetive …………. forgiveness …….. prudence ……….. gratitude ……… self regulation ……..

honesty …….. self regulation ……… hope ………. social intelligence ……… humility ……….. spirituality ………..

humor……. judgement …….. teamwork …….. zest ………..

To cope with current problems, it helps to reflect on past successes .. and we are asked to look at what inner resources helped us to do this. Apparently psychologists call our “superpowers” signature strengths. is that a cape billowing behind you? Mine is tattered and torn in places, colours are faded,, but I won’t be trading it in soon…. I earned every wrinkle and stain… you?

Have a great day everyone, service is at 10 a.m.

Enjoy the process and savor it. the feeling you have when you’ve seen something through to the end is awesome, but the true joy lies in the actual execution of the plan.

being still

Watching the birds. Yesterday as usual I spent time in the woodlands, just being there, listening to the birds, and taking in the silence. In the countryside, you catch a glimpse of the birds, but you don’t get to see them, just being themselves. A glimpse here and there, they might fly past or be perched on a wire or branch in a tree – but they are not up close and personal.

Since I installed a bird feeder station outside my living room window.. I have seen the birds daily and often. I get to see the mother bird feeding her youngster.. while it perches on a branch beside her, she dips into the feeder, than leans over and feeds it ..its mouth open waiting.. wings fluttering to balance. She is teaching it where to get the seed and how to balance on the feeder. I watched fascinated because behind on other branches patiently waiting for her to tend to her young, two adolescent starlings were waiting to be not at the feeder she was at but on the one the little one was balancing on. Not far from them was a couple more mature Starlings … they too waited for the mother to finish feeding and leave before they beelined it to the feeder they wanted, pushing and being aggressive.

The bigger birds push each other, shove and peck when they want something … yet when Mother bird was feeding her young one, they waited. The mother and baby were sparrows, so different and certainly not of the size of the Starlings.

I’ve noticed Blue Jays now come calling, as well as woodpeckers, cardinals and even pigeons. Yes, the squirrels come calling too. It will be most interesting to see, as the weather changes, who the visitors will be. As time goes on, I will also be able to see more of how the birds are in the community that has begun to take shape in my front yard. the Saskatoon Berry , the Cherry Tree and evergreens are always resting places for the birds.

Have a great day everyone!

Rabbit rescue

Domestic rabbits, the one today the lady at the SPCA told me it was a dwarf rabbit. These animals are bred to be pets, they are not born and raised in the wild. The are used to human contact, they are fed on a regular basis, have very different lives than an animal, born and raised in the wild.

Why then is it that someone who has such a young rabbit who has only known human care, takes it and dumps it in the parking lot of a conservation area that is full of coyotes, and every other kind of wild animal in the area… that has to hunt and kill for its meals.

Fortunately, I was in the parking lot getting ready to leave when one of the regular walkers there brought to my attention that there was a rabbit behind his van. Nothing unusual, there are wild rabbits around at this time of year, however, this one he told me was not a wild rabbit .. it was a looking to him for food. It didn’t run when we approached it, altho’ it was cautious… it kept out of our reach, but kept coming to us when we called. It wanted to hide under my car.. so it was used to cars.. and people..

Thankfully Daniel was in agreement with our trying to catch it and I’d take it to the SPCA.. I have no experience with rabbits.. I knew my dogs who are whippets (natural sight hounds and taught to chase rabbits (on a lure) in chase training, would not welcome a rabbit. But I agreed I would take it to the SPCA if we were able to catch it.

It took us time, but eventually we were able to get close enough to scoop it up… I put the zippers up on my dog bed for the car.. and put the wee one in. It was good it settled in and just sat there. Again what came to mind was how cruel it was to have dropped such a docile and trusting animal in a wild environment and driven away. I don’t think of myself as wicked, but I do send out to the Universe that the previous owners have at least one bad dream/nightmare.. for their thoughtless actions.

The rabbit was taken in by the SPCA, I ask that everyone focus on the good. It is my hope that he/she will be adopted by a caring family that will love it and give it a good home.

The Universe provided for this young life. It was discovered and taken to a place where it will have a chance at a long healthy life.

Changes

photo Nick Vrtis

You can only change yourself. Before you start telling people how they should do things, think of how you can be more flexible.

Perfect Liberty 2022.13

Friends of mine are travelling in the States, sending back wonderful photos of the sights they are discovering. I asked Nick for this picture to share because when I saw it.. I saw and felt such wonder at the magnificence of this natural monument to change. The colours, the cleavage carved over time, centuries of weather carvings, that happened in miniscule micro moments. Nothing can compare to the abstract wonders Nature presents us on a daily basis.

Love comes when we least expect it. be ready when it does come. Prepare to be ready to nourish love, be open and receptive…

In the picture of this natural wonder that Nick took, I felt and saw raw passion, and tho’ the surface is hard to the touch, it left me with the impression of softness, tenderness and the meeting of yin/yang in harmony and balance.

doorways

photo Ian Mitchell

Doors are so important in our lives, and we take them for granted. Wandering around, we find doors in all shapes, colours and sizes… they all lead somewhere or to something. I’m blessed with friends who know and share my love of doors.. I was delighted when this picture landed in my InBox. Lately I have been working on being more aware and mindful… this picture brought joy, made me smile, two doors flung open in welcome.

You can be with God by having a prayerful mind. Let’s pray for World Peace. We are all one big family. Let’s start by praying for the happiness of those around us.

Aug.10

It’s easier to adapt to something when we find it interesting. No matter how enjoyable a situation is, a slight change in our attitude can make it boring. Let’s face any situation with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Perfect Liberty 2022.10

I walked over, took a picture and moved on.. now I see I missed a moment.. I didn’t stop to take it all in. I was too busy trying to take pictures to share. There was a picnic table there, it was an opportunity missed.

This is why .. one of my exercises in life is to do some restructuring, so I am more mindful. How are you at being mindful and aware?

Ancestors Day service tomorrow, Aug. 11. Thursday at 10 a.m.
