Those were not my words back when I was actively working … because  back  then we didnt’ text, there wasn’t a cell phone attached to almost every household, in fact likely none.   But to those who came wanting to learn to meditate, it was almost always about their  need to find a quiet place for themselves, within the confines of their busy lives.  Young professionals needing and wanting grounding.

6c47982c55dc9ff0276b38741f33e1aaJust  Be………  so easy to say, so hard to do.

Common when I asked, “Did you get to meditate since we last met?” Answer, “Only, a few times, but each time I was interrupted, or the neighbour, (or children etc.) were making so much noise, I couldn’t concentrate”

And there lies the problem. meditation isn’t about concentration, it isn’t about having candles in the room, or soothing music with a nice incense happening.  Meditation is the art of staying in touch with your own personal connection to the “Divine”.  God lives in us all…  the Energy of Life is the force that makes us all  ONE.

If ever you have been blessed with someone in your life where just being together, or knowing that the other is close by, is comforting, and an extension of YOU, that is a special bond, and one that – simply is –  We can’t manufacture this sense of extension, sense of Oneness, it simply is.  You just are….   and if someone hasn’t had that experience it is hard to explain it to them.  They have to find it in themselves.  Because  a state of peaceful existence begins within.

So many quotes, so many words…” meditation is inaction.”.. do you believe that?  There is active meditation for example when one is practicing or  engrossed in working out,, dancing, focused on the moment,  you are so intent on the moment, although you hear the world around you, it is lost to you in that moment.  In that moment, all that is …. is where you are… and what you are doing…   that is a form of meditation.  That is meditation.. it is you “BEING”

When

68dc02b731c14f2b79ac665c842e840f  When in life we begin to grow

We are taught by our parents,

by teachers, and by the life around us

There are some things that we

really take to, that captures our

imagination, so we apply ourselves

and we work hard to accomplish

what our heart desires.

Our passion comes from within

A;vin Aley NY Dance Troupe

If we are in the right groove

we study, we learn, and we find

and cultivate friends along the way

who share our interests

If there is a connection, wow

there is such an intense joy in the sharing

in the way we move, the way we think

and how we experience each other.

It is hard to know at times

where one begins and where one ends.

Although we are often on our own,

the reality is that in life, the natural energies,

or elements, require a positive and a negative

to reach a ONENESS

If we over water, plants will drown

too much sun and dry soil, will cause a drought

love is an emotion,

emotion has a range of expressions

Life is Art.    .. PL Precept #1

When dancers perform, we don’t see the work, sweat, tears, pain that they endured during their practices, workouts, and personal battles they fought for us to see the final product.  Their dedication to their craft, is what enables us to enjoy a breathtaking performance.  Even the work that went into taking the pictures I have used in this blog, the time the photographer took, the patience to get just the right angle, that exact moment to click the shutter.

There is complexity in all that happens.  We tend to only see the surface.  Life is an art form, and we, each and every one of us, is a piece of the puzzle in the whole of this wonderful, exhilarating experience called living….

Each and every time we share time with each other.. I for sure, am enriched.  Thank you.

have you seen my umbrella

Have you seen my umbrella?  I asked myself not that long ago when the last time was I used an umbrella.  I honestly could not recall when I has last used one, or even, where there was one in the  house..image by John HancockThere was a time when just the sight of a cloud had me carrying an umbrella, what changed, Something has to have changed, obviously it was a subtle, and slow change, because I do not recall the exact moment where I no longer cared to have one with me, or feel the need for one.

Life is not something that happens instantly, nor are we always aware of how something came about, or why something is.If we are present in our everyday moments, then we deal with each occurence as it happens.

Once I stopped seeing rain as something to avoid, it simply because another aspect of my day.  It didn’t affect whether or not I was happy or not.

For sure I appreciate the way the earth responds to rain, the grass gets greener, the trees stand taller, and if you are out in the garden after a summer rain shower, you often get to enjoy the wonderful fragrances of the flowers and vegetation like you never do at any other time.

At church today when the formal part of the service was being performed, I found myself drifting off into a relaxed state, the tension in my shoulders eased, and my eyes closed in prayer.  The peace and power of prayer is so powerful that during that space in time, I was transported to another dimension.

Love filled my thoughts, my mind, my being was permeated with a divine sense of total Oneness with the moment.

Inner Sensitivity

167d18e89f4cfe94d6d602d49b31014e

Oh to be lazy, to sit in the hammock and simply while away the day. =^_^=

Today’s lesson is about being able to perceive our surroundings with more sensitivity.

We are asked to continue to learn and to add to our knowledge and experiences.

Learning can be painful, it can produce growing pains….  actually, most lessons that contribute to our sensitivity to SELF, are ones that force us to face some of the truths, that lie dormant in our Being

intellectually we work things out so that we contrive a form of acceptance.  A way to live with the feelings of vulnerability, our inner insecurities, if we are truly honest with ourselves, we all have to deal with these feelings, thoughts, and inner ramblings.  Will lying in the hammock, closing our eyes, and letting the sounds of the meadow change things?

Sometimes, my surroundings are important, I am happy being where I am…. the question that i ask, is there a need …to always interact with our surroundings, or…. can we simply BE.

bb2101f6a7516384a10c2e51e4fcf7c7

To be more aware, to be more in tune with our surroundings, we need to focus and be present, in all we say and do.

no more… …no less

Time was

retro, breakfast maker

When kitchen gadgets were perhaps simpler.  Note that the idea for breakfast, was that cup of coffee, toast, eggs and I think those are sausages.

campe+ bike UK

When the romantic dream was to camp in a quiet serene lot somewhere, far from the busy cities and towns,  perhaps park the car and if transportation is required, there is the trusty bike to pedal to a country store.

Of course the realities of today when we look back on our dreams of a quiet get away, are not as romantic.  We have to make time to get a way, we need plan and organize, the darling camper, needs to be found and then it has to be reconstructed to meet one’s needs.  Do these small campers have bathrooms, showers, we have to look at logistics, etc. etc.

Important, is our lifestyle such that we can travel with the barest of essentials, or do we need/want more.  Will the car we presently have pull a trailer, do we want to stay in camp grounds that seem to be stuffed with other campers, trailers, and families tucked together between trees much like the some of the communities in the city.  The only difference being, there are more trees, and likely there is water near by for swimming.

And, let us not forget the pets.  We travel with two dogs.  where do we find open space and safety for them.  As the list of needs and wants mounts up, the reality of that romantic dream coming true fades into the distance.life is a journey

Life itself is  journey, how many times do we hear that said, or alluded to. There came a time in my maturing process where I began to realize that each day was my opportunity to explore a piece of my dream, make it a reality, instead of planing  and working at something that may or may not happen, I decided to focus on NOW.  I still dream of future projects, but my interest is in today, how I am feeling today, and what I am doing with my time today. Somehow, that works for me, being present in all I say and do means that I don’t regrets, and I work hard at not having expectations.  I’ve learned when we expect something, we are often disappointed.  The only person that I have control over, in all respects, is myself.  I own the actions and choices I make.  No more, no less.

bacon loaf

Totally irrelevant to anything previous,  this bread takes one hour to make. and I want to taste it. like NOW =^_^- It has 8 slices of bacon in it.   I’d want more.  1/4 cup of Jalapeno,  3 cups of flour, 1 tbsp baking powder,  2 tbsp  granulated sugar  1 tsp of salt,   1 tbsp  vegetable oil,  12 oz buttermilk, 2 cups cheddar cheese,  8 oz cream cheeze.

I’m a confessed bacon addict, if I squeeze a recipe in from time to time, I hope you enjoy!

Amazing, its going to be a joy filled day

Goedendag, Buen dia, Bonjour everyone!  Can you feel the energy and the positive feelings of this new day!  So much to be thankful for. LOL I haven’t been up that long, so the happy thoughts and the positive energy is at its peak, raring to get going with the day.  It  is good to be able to express one’s thought with honesty, So what happens when we wake up with only part of the happy showing maybe the glow is somewhat dim. It does happen.  Let us not delude ourselves that every day is a merry one.

storm clouds

This picture shows storms clouds passing over Cromwell, notice the different density and appearance of each one, some are rather menacing, daily challenges can (if seen) can appear to us this way. Clouds do come bringing whatever atmospheric debris they have collected, some will simply sail on by, other’s may linger, but the reality is once they’ve expressed what they needed to, they evaporate and go away.

storm,yellow boat flickr

We need only to batten down and weather the storm.  During rain, thunder, lightening and the like, we calmly do just that, we adjust, change our plans, and reschedule events etc., So why is it that we don’t tackle the emotional side of life the same way.  PL Precept #1 – Life is Art.  When we live in the moment, accepting that it is now that counts, the time flows easily, for living our true feelings and expressing ourselves honestly brings a deep sense of self awareness. Because we focus on the moment and live it when it happens,

Meditation and prayer works for me, we all have a means or method that works for us.  The trick is to practice our “personal philosophy” not just give it a place on a shelf, we have to put into practice what know works for us.  Not just now and then, or when an emergency moment happens, we need to practice, and hone our spiritual connection daily till there is no doubt in our minds that it is there.  Then we  always know that we are never alone, the Universe is part of us, therefore a storm cloud is merely a moment in time, it will pass.  Be Happy!  Smile, feel the  joy and double it.  Pass it on!

Let’s speak from the heart, listen with full attention

for a new day has begun

A whole new day yawns before us,

give unconditional  love, allow your SELF to  feel

make your choices, then let go, and let your heart rejoice

As yourself each day, what remains unexpressed within me ?

In the teachings of the TAO we say…” that all that is good and unique in your should be brought out. Never hold back.  The good in you is like water in a well… the more you draw from it, the more fresh water will seep into the well.  If you don’t draw from the well, that water that is there will go stagnant.” (365 Tao)

Fitness

minteral, fractal, nature's art found on flickr

Fitness, what does the word conjure up in your mind when you think of fitness, is it your weight, your overall body’s ability to work out, run, walk, do?  What exactly does it mean to you.  I went to the gym first thing this morning after the feeding of the dogs.  Somehow my body seems to prefer waking up to the familiar routine of walking and spinning.  To those of you who have traveled along with me for some time, you remember years ago when I first started at TAC (www.theottawaathleticclubs.ca ) how fired up I was, enthusiastic was an understatement. I was going 7 days a week, you couldn’t keep me away.  Thankfully that was back then, now I am much more realistic. ah ha ah. am I hearing some snickers out there.

fish,salmon

After my workout, I come home and have fresh fish for breakfast.  When I looked for fish recipes I was surprised to find that there were so few plain fish, steamed, or baked recipes, with NO batter, or not drenched in butter or sauces.  Anyway, I beg pardon I am digressing.  Being back at the gym I find myself more “intune” with a part of me that somehow got very lazy over winter, and truth be told, rather boring.

motivation

Ok so I won’t be doing that anytime soon, but I am working out, and I have signed up with a personal trainer. Michelle from Epic Fitness, a smaller gym that’s focus is on personal training. epicfitnessottawa.com  Why 2 different gyms, because they are so totally different. Yes they basically are both gyms but their approach and their styles are different.  I tried a PT at TAC earlier on my “fitness” journey, but it just didn’t work out, I obviously was not ready for the guidance or really open to allowing someone else help me.

friendship

Fitness is not only the physical part  of your life, it involves a total commitment from ALL of you.  If our Makoto (sincere effort) isn’t 100% then no matter who you are working with, they will encounter a resistance.  You may not even know you are doing it, but for you to succeed  at achieving your goal, you must partner with the trainer in a relationship much like a friendship so you can accomplish what you set out to do.

C.S. Lewis said >Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art…. It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival. <

Good Morning everyone! Friday is well on its way.  Enjoy the day!  Be yourself it is the only way!

 Love and Blessings… Oyashikiri

dag/Hallo, hello? you hearing me?

cfeed4887fc8003397faa4a280f88a5f

Buen dia. bonjour, once the greetings are said, how carefully do you listen.  Do you sometimes feel that you are talking into a void, even though you have someone there, talking with you, do you sometimes feel their thoughts are elsewhere? When it happens to you, how do you react, do you pretend you don’t notice, or do you  end the conversation and move along.  I guess it can depend on the situation.  I was on the receiving end of such a conversation last night, someone initiated a conversation with me, then suddenly it was as if, the person was in another room, then he said he had another incoming call, would I mind waiting. Sound familiar, happen to you?   My reply is to say, hey no problem call me back when you have time, and I hang up.  I personally would not do that to someone I had called, nor do I appreciate someone doing it to me.  Call me old-fashioned, but if you call to speak with me, then whoever else is calling can wait.

More and more with the new technology the niceties  are slowly fading in our interaction with others.  Communication is peppered with icons, acronyms and broken down sentences so that maybe your message is understood, maybe it  isn’t.  Our cell phones, iPads, note books even make spelling  corrections for us, that can and often completely change the direction or context of the message being sent. The question should be, not only can you hear me, but do you understand what I am saying to you.

I have one friend who can drive me crazy when he texts … I can see he is writing, and so I wait, the little pen stops, and nothing comes across to my screen, he does this several times, so I can see that he has something to say, but what I also see is he changes his mind 3, 4, sometimes 5 times and then says nothing.  It is a catch 22, I’m thrilled at being able to text to friends all over the world, have real-time conversations, but on the other hand,I miss a good old-fashioned letter, where thoughts are carefully put on papers, maybe even a few doodles, then signed with care/ love, and sent.  The recipient always knew that the person who wrote, spent time composing and thinking about what to share, then took the time do do an envelope and post the visit  for you to receive and enjoy.  Snail mail, miss it!

The empty corridor reminds me of  communication today, we are in such a hurry to get on to the next task or conversation, we miss out on the nuances and often the intent of the conversation we are currently having.  Listening will soon be a lost art.  The ability to have a real meaningful conversation will it fade into history too?  We all want to have, and be good friends.  And,  Lit we desire  relationships that are long lasting and enduring.  To achieve this, after we say our Guten Tag, we really do have to listen and be present in the conversation we are entering into. Yes!  Listen to others carefully and with a clear mind.

Goedendag =^_^= good day everyone!

3012c01dcc3059b4172570c9577826a8In church yesterday, Rev. Tiago spoke of a story he’d heard when he was back in Brazil, studying to be a minister for the Church of PL  (Perfect Liberty) It was about Oshieoya-sama .  (This is the honorific title of the spiritual leader of PL, Rev. Takahito Miki).  He was telling  us that when Oshieoya-sama was younger, (still in high school) he felt that it was important to know about computers, and that the new technology would one day play an important role in the church and society. He focused and studied hard, what he learned he taught to others in his church group. The subject matter was advanced for his age group and academic level, but he applied himself, and eventually  he wanted to take the required exams for certification on this IT technology.   The exams were attended and taken  by students in senior levels he was the only one who was still at the high school level.  When the results were finally posted, of all the students who had taken the tests, only 5  made the grade. 1 of which was Oshieoya-sama.  On being told of his accomplishment, his first reaction was one of concern, on how the others had done.

Because of his achievement at such an early age, he was signaled out to be interviewed.  Always he included his fellow students, always when asked a question, on how he had managed to get such grades and pass the exams, he referred the question to one of the other graduates, by saying ,” thank you, yes WE worked hard,” and then he would turn and ask the other student to explain the complexities of the subject.  He did not accept the attention on himself and his hard work, but on the hard work of the others who had also achieved their goals.  Yes he was the youngest, but he knew that in allowing the others to have their time being interviewed it would help them along their career paths.

I so appreciated hearing Rev. Tiago talk about Oshieoya-sama.  His little story was a reminder for me  to put into practice more, the  21 Principles in PL,  in particular   #4 to live with the spirit of Misasage (Devotion) working for the happiness of others.

It is so easy to get caught up in our own little worlds. In PL we are encouraged to pray for the happiness of others and society.   to strive to do things for the sake of other, and pray for their happiness as well.  Many of us will often review the PL 21 Precepts.  How often do we review the 21 Principles?    the PL 21 Principles, are the practical guidelines  for our daily lives as PL members.  They assist us in practicing the PL 21 Precepts, they are specific  guidelines how how to live the PL WAY. (an artistic life) and teach us how to reach a positive state of mind.  Anyone wanting to know more about what Rev. Tiago had to say yesterday, or to consult with him, Rev Tiago de Medeiros Chagas  –   tiago@perfectliberty.ca  or by phone 613-225-1850

Even when we think we have put our best effort into what we are doing, we may have overlooked something. with a humble mind, take a second look, check for that there isn’t something you’ve missed.  Mistakes and oversights happen.  They are just part of life… little hiccups along the way.
