WHEN THE MIND WON’T STOP

How many times, how often has it happened, you are so tired, you just want to lie down and sleep… the mind just won’t stop chattering. Ok some of the information may be interesting, and a tiny wee bit may be new to you… but …. it (chatter) just won’t stop … and you are exhausted. What do you do, what can you do… nothing …

Think about it, the more you focus on it, the more attention it (chatter/noise) gets.. the more frustrated/ annoyed you get..

PL Precept # 5 One’s self is lost by being emotional

Get up,stop trying to force quiet… do something else, distract your attention, never mind the time, or trying to make something happen that isn’t happening.. Let it go!

Just walking into another room … sit down at the dining room table, have a glass of warm milk, I have a small piece of felt that I put in the back of a small canvas I had lying around that I had not put to use yet, I have five dice that sit there.. I pick them up and throw them.. I get three tries… I t ry for 5 of a kind of course, but I see what turns up. could be I will end up with only a pair .. maybe a full house.. doesn’t matter, it is the distraction, of rolling the dice, hearing them, watching for what turns up etc. A few throws and I’m usually ready to head back to bed.. the cycle is broken, the bed looks welcoming, and 7 out of 10… I will drift off to sleep. definitely I will have a different mind space.

Give importance to listening, looking, thinking, doing and speaking. Don’t be entrenched in your own thoughts … you will not hear or catch the hints/inspiration from others

Thursday Doors

I am a door. Not always pretty,, but usually functional. I come in all shapes and sizes, just like you do. You can open me, you can close me. What doesn’t usually happen, is you don’t take time to get to know me. You use me. Plain and simple, you use me at your convenience. Often I am left to endure what-ever weather comes alone, I keep you safe, do I get a thank you… seldom… how often do you simply bang me shut or slam me hard to make a point. Sometimes you even kick me. Since this a group with a focus on doors, is anyone interested in starting a Doors have feelings too.. group? Just asking.

We never know what gems we will find as we wander the paths we come across. I woke this morning to a cold, wet day, what had been rain and wet snow, temperatures here have been above normal for days, we have had no deep freeze for some time.. guess what .. temperatures are dropping, when you open the door the frigid cold snaps a sharp wet ice missile at you… the elder dog gives you a “hurry up” bark.. his tone tells you, he wants in NOW.

Sister whippet just got up .. went out and was very quick to come back… it is going to be a very different day today.. whoooppeeeee…. dress warmly.

Happy place

I’m tucked away in my hidden retreat… listening to the rain falling, the steady rhythm of the drops as they cut through the deep piles of snow in the yard… when I opened the door to let the dogs out, the rain was falling in sheets.. it was a sight to see against the piles off winter snow that since yesterday have lost about half of their height because it has been mild.. and of course the rain is not being kind to the snow that fell over the past couple of weeks.

This location (above) is not known to many, those of us who frequent this little hide-a-way… tend to keep it a secret. Hmmm wonder why! True with all the snow we had, it won’t look like this now, if we trekked in to visit the ambience would still be magical, but very different.

Like… here we are saying goodbye to another year, by this time tomorrow it will be 2023. Let’s move forward with a positive attitude. We have so much to discover and enjoy before we have to “slow down”.

Have a prayerful mid to love yourself and others. Open up your heart fully when praying to God. It will help you sort out your feelings.

a new day

Seeing this picture reminded me of my trek around the perimeter of the piece of land that stuck out from the mainland. I had been climbing over stumps, fallen logs, dense vegetation when I felt the eyes watching me. I looked over and there was a very intent bird watching my progress. I was so close I was surprised she didn’t take off.. but then… she wouldn’t would she.. she was protecting her nest. I made my apologies and backed away… not before I whipped my Nikon out to grab a picture. Can you see if she said “cheese”…

Are you overdoing things? Not only do you harm yourself when you overdo things, but you may be imposing on others as well.

Wow look snow as far as we can see… and it is snowing again…. still we have a lot of possibilities out there… Loved this picture of the woodpeckers when I saw them while reviewing all the wonderful pictures on Paul’s flickr page. Woodpeckers love to discover new “restaurants”, you can hear them totally caught up in their task of “creating/eating” their latest discovery. When they eat something buttery, they like to clean off their beaks before filling up again. When they are being selective, they will start with something soft and then move on to something with more grit … they like variety and will fly from one tree to another to keep their “dinner” interesting.

For days, weeks I have been pulling things out of dark corners of my work room, have I used this, will I use it. I have filled two big tote boxes with craft/art supplies, that someone else can use. The calendar new year is coming and I like to have “things” started for the new year. In my case, the target date is January 22, when it will be the lunar new year (Chinese New Year) it changes every year depending on the lunar cycle.

It has been an interesting time, “why” have I got so much of “this and that”.. how many pairs of scissors do I need? Card stock!!! let me tell you about card stock… the quality of what was “normal” years ago, is long gone. If it is around, it must be speciality stock and very pricey. The other day I bought cookies to have should I have visitors over the holidays. I was shocked when I opened the box to find 3 rows instead of 4 and the size of the cookie … were considerably smaller. Have you purchased a box of chocolate covered marshmallow cookies lately?

todays’ meditation.. simply said, hard to keep in mind all day!

PL Principle #2 I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather. Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

This little character was going to have his place on the plate no matter what any other bird had to say about it. He clearly felt that he was there first, and was going to partake until he was finished. The other bird was totally unfazed, unfortunately he moved and was too blurred to keep in the picture. Personalities, we all have them!!

Watching the visitors arrive and share the meal in community. Once the feed is out, I sit away from the eating areas, and quietly watch them come in to partake of the good. The Grosbeaks arrive with a lot of community spirit, they call out greetings to one another, and appear to actually visit with one another as they taste and select their morsels … I use a mixture that includes added protein.

The birds are very observant, I am always surprised at how they know when and where the fresh suet is put. I don’t see them watching, yet unerringly they will go to the freshly buttered tree bark/crevice and nibble at it. from the chickadees to the blue jays they all will fly over for a taste they are good at doing it “casually”…. the doves who prefer to eat off the floor/ground, have been seen to fly up to check the butter out.

For those interested, there is another product out like the butter, that Ritchie’s* have, it is called “Icing” it will be milder in the next week or so… I did try it, but will give it a better test when the weather warms up… The birds showed their interest, we’ll see, the butter/icings don’t spread well in the colder temperatures. Ritchie’s also has the seed that deters squirrels.
