Black Friday?

I have been rereading Ishmael -an adventure of the mind and spirit by Daniel Quinn. Reading something that you previously came across YearS ago… makes for interesting observations. The book came out in 1992. Once I started to peruse the book, I remembered how I had reacted to it the first time I came across it. I grew up on Alan Watts, The prophet Kahlil Gibran, and as many books I could find on the Tao. Having a gorilla for a mentor is something new to contemplate now that I am in my “senior” years.

Black Friday is no longer something that happens on one day after a holiday, we have been bombarded with Black Friday sales now for days, weeks even. There is a huge focus on commercialism, spend, spend, buy, buy.

The other book that is on my reading list at the moment is Sophie’s World. This is a novel about the history of philosophy by Jostein Gaarder It was translated and copywritten in 1994 by Paulette Moller, hmmm you say, kinda interesting reading at this tender age… yes… it has given me some food for though BECAUSE I am past my formative years, I have lived many lifetimes now… and I realized as I was reading the pages of these books that my thought process and how I “see” life is pretty much etched into my daily living.

The picture on the right is how I digest, reflect and regroup my thoughts when I am processing my days/nights. The picture on the left with the gorilla is “another time/place” when I was more “open” to the energy and thought process of others/and circumstances.

I can really relate to the ambiance and storyline of Sophie’s world because the writer has her finding her own “secret den” where she can go and process her thoughts. In both books, the characters are looking for answers, they are filled with wonder and are like sponges taking in information and trying to make sense of the world as it is seen by them…

In Canada we had our Thanksgiving in October, yesterday was thanksgiving in the United States, in PL we celebrate and have special service each month on the 21st. It is a time to remember, and express our gratitude for the blessings in our lives, and each 11th of the month we have a service to honour and pay tribute to our ancestors. Because our lives are so closely tied with our neighbours in the States, we spend a lot of time hearing about and seeing what Thanksgiving is in both Canada and the United States.

What dominated the airwaves these past weeks/months has been sports, shopping, politics, and more shopping and sports. AND lets not forget all the hallmark movies and storylines about that special love that is more storybook than anything else that happens from now till after Christmas.

How real do most of us deal with life on a day to day basis.???

Today’s calendar.. ( which I find interesting for Black Friday reading )

Use money and things usefully and enthusiastically. Money and things are materials for self expression. Use them joyfully with appreciation

If you have thoughts on this post, please share them with me. Am I too vague? Am I seeing incongruity were there is none.?

P10 Lime Kiln trail

It was cold enough that there was a layer of ice on the water. I was the only human there, it was a delightful walk, I was able to take my time and just wander in and out off the main trail.

Of course it wasn’t long before I heard the sound of voices coming up behind me. I moved over to let the people by, I didn’t want to be rushed. I took my time and walked all the way to the ruins of the old Kiln. The trail continued on to another entrance off another road… from the signs I could see it would be a long jaunt. I’ll do it another time. I got my two miles in, and that was my aim.

Good morning it is now very early 16th. and we’ve had a blanket of snow… I will be leaving soon to see what kind of pictures I can get after I feed the birds. Have a good day everyone… Today’s calendar quote follows.

Have a joyful day by being a little more creative. You will enjoy your day more by adding a little creativity to your daily activities.

disclaimer

It is easier to adapt to something when we find it interesting. No matter how enjoyable a situation is, a slight change in our attitude can make it boring. Let’s face any situation with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Sometimes there is more said in silence than with words.

Nov 9…

Express yourself clearly so others can understand you. When you can’t communicate clearly it can lead to problems. always express yourself carefully to avoid any misunderstandings.

The magic of waking to another day, is realizing that there are so many possibilities, and each one will be a new beginning. I heard the other day that someone had made up a “mood board” they had collected and gathered materials to make up a poster with a collage of inspirations and aspirations. Sounds like a fun project, I am currently in a declutter “mode”, must ask if this is something they will put up somewhere or if it is like a journaling page. It is always fun and interesting to learn how others cope with mindfulness

a walk with myself

Today I forced myself to return to Pine Grove Trail .. it has been cleared .. above is what it looked like after the storm.. below is what I explored today.

At first I confess I was filled with a sadness, my feet were reluctant, and my whole body tensed as I made my way through the gate to walk along the once familiar trail Then I began to notice the new growth that was bravely dealing with the coming of winter. The young shoots were bravely waving their fall colours.

I was reminded that in nature, there is always tomorrow, and another day. Out of the broken, devastated remains of what was, there was new growth, Strong young shoots reaching up into the clear blue sky, their leaves a riot of colour showing their pride at having attained a place in the world.

The message was loud and clear, never let a set back, deter you from your goals or purpose in life. It may not be the easiest path, but it is your path, and you are here, live it… experience all of what life sends your way… if you come face to face with it, it is because the Universe knows you can cope/deal with it.

When you let go of what was… you are blessed with new opportunities .. you face new potential … you will make new memories … and you yourself, will grow, you open the door to new possibilities.

What began as a simple walk, turned into a moment of discovery, I feel so blessed, and that you are here to share it with me, makes it a pure delight.
