cold day

The forecast said cold, blistering winds and a possible 1.5 inches of snow. While I was out, the snow seemed to be on its way, but there were no signs of it., the sky was that cold gray that often is an indicator — but.. luck held… while in the woodland, it didn’t make an appearance.

Different story when I came out of my last destination. The parking lot was clear and dry, but 1/2 hour later when I came out.. my car was completely covered and people leaving were having to make time to clear their cars before driving away. Someone didn’t have her brush/scraper with her… I was sure I had put one in the car, but if I did, I wasn’t finding it. It was time to do what needed to be done, I used my arm and hands…. thankfully I wasn’t far from home. As soon as I got out of the car, I found the scraper and brush and put them on the back seat. !!! done!!!

You gain strength through your hardships. Whatever you learn easily or master effortlessly tends to be forgotten. The lessons you gain through repeated mistakes are what gives you genuine strength.

All the summer vegetation is gone, once again we can see the forest floor and see through and beyond the shrubs and trees that line the roadway. I watched hoping to catch a glimpse of a wild turkey or two. Didn’t linger long.. the cold was creeping into my bones.

I am very blessed to have these two human beings in my life and consider them family. I’m so proud of what they do and the love they give to each and every little heart that comes into their lives.

When what is right is not where it belongs

Tell me that again will you.. did you say what I think I heard,

or did you explain and I wasn’t listening – sometimes I do hear the words, but what they say to me, and what they are trying to convey – well. there is a discrepancy .. not sure what it is. but I know there is a disconnect. right side up, or upside down, makes no matter if the chatter is simply noise spoken into the wind.

Be a person who can say “I like it!” Find what moves you the most and express your appreciation.

Does light filter through an unwashed window… yes it does… With the days shorter, and the nights longer, on sunny days when the sunlight streams through the sunroom windows, the room takes on a dazzling delight of coloured rays that give the room a festive quality – yes that is one the delights of the winter months in my home. From the moment I walked into the house those many years ago, the sunroom with all its windows was a “magical” room. Each home should have such a room, We never utilized the room as a functional room, I always decorated and used it as a “canvas” or “feeling” room.

I never wavered from this delight I have in the room. I often will just sit at the fining room chair and just look out the window (this one chair faces the sunroom and its many windows) Its a view I get when emerging from the area of the house where the bedroom and my studio are located, I marvel just catching a glimpse as I walk from one area of the house to another.

Do you have a special nook or area of your home that holds a special meaning to you and you alone? No reason or rhyme, just because…..

It’s okay to think “this is where it starts” There is always a turning point. It’s important what you do from now.

virtual fashion

This morning I did a blog on fashion for the Virtual News 8 blog https://virtualnws8.ca/2021/11/23/fashion-moment/ One of the fun aspects of being in SL (Second Life) is that we get to wear and do things that perhaps in our day to day don’t happen as easily for us. i.e in the day to day world, I like being casual and comfortable, while in virtual I can wear spike heels and formals at any given time, day or night and anywhere.

This little number I’m wearing today comes in a multitude of colours, I can change it up to suit my mood or occasion. I particularly liked that the designer of this outfit allowed for the stitching colour to be changed as well as the various items of clothes. outfit is called Aitana, and comes from the Blackbirdlace Store http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Alyssum%20Island/183/56/22

Good morning everyone. I’m hearing more and more about how the weather is affecting our moods. It is not even the darkest of days yet… and already there is moaning about the lack of sunshine and the shorter days. Yesterday was the 21st. in another month, the days will start getting longer again. Besides it is not the daylight that determines if we are having a good day or not, it is your mind set.

Things come about when they are meant to happen. Enjoy the moment while you wait. Think of what you can do for the time being, and don’t rush the outcome.

house on the hill

So lonely and sad, the old house now sits so silently on the hill – No more does it hear the sounds of children playing – or the clanking of pots and pans as dinner is being made It’s former charm has now long since gone.

Imagine how it had once been, the proud haven for how many generations of families? Can you see the farmer tending the land, animals grazing near and around the homestead…. I think I see that a swing once sat in the front yard, where come evening, the family could gather and watch as the evening skies filled with stars. A gallery of twinkling particles of light against a clear night time sky

My friend and photographer Shirley Keen took these photos while on one of her jaunts. I was going to use it for “Thursday Doors” but there was a poignant feeling about the house, that inspired me to give it its own place on a page. Old homesteads like this are found not only in NZ but here in Canada, and I’m sure in the USA. I noticed in the pictures there was no road leading in to the house, nor any sign of hydro (electricity) being fed to the house. It has to have been vacant for years. There is a road not far off, but no driveway to this building.

Update. the Hoult farm house has been in the same family for 6 generations. It seems there will soon be a new house built close to where this one now stands by one of the descendent of this family.

Could this have been a reservoir for catching rain water?

Seeing the pictures Shirley took of this old farmstead brought back memories of days when the entire area around where I grew up was farmland such as seen in these photos, and now … all one can see are city lights and urban sprawl.

Let’s interact proactively with an ever changing society. society is always rapidly hanging with the times. Keep your eyes and mind in tune with these change and learn to deal with them proactively.
