Sandhill crane

great video on the Sandhill Crane, There is a lone Sandhill Crane at P22, inspired me to look for more information on the bird. Please enjoy this video I found on the net.

In life there are no guarantees. I cried at the end of this video, but decided to share it with you all anyway, a lot of time and love/caring went into this video…and my love for all creatures, is such that I do want her story to be told, and for us (humans) to be more aware of how fragile life can be… our actions do have consequences.

Listen to others until the end. If you put your thoughts first you will not be able to listen to others until the end, firstly, listen to others to the end and understand them well.

brain drain?

Bouts of forgetfulness? You find yourself wanting to test your cognitive skills. Do you identify with articles that talk about memory issues. Do you have trouble staying focused. How do you do with retaining or learning new information/technology? Something that we are all experiencing at some level if we are now “adults”…

Every magazine has some kind of article in it that wants to educate us, on healthy habits, diet changes so that we are getting more legumes, whole grains, eat fish for more omega etc. the list goes on and on. there are articles and “people” who specialize in studying and passing on information about how to age gracefully.

A doctor once told me when I asked him the question..”am I over weight, should I be on a diet” his reply was to ask me, 1. how do you feel? do you feel good? Are you experiencing any symptoms that we need to look into? I had to think, but no I had no aches, pains, or discomfort, I was eating well, I wasn’t having headaches, my arthritis was not acting up, my diabetic numbers were good, maybe I could fall asleep faster, but in the grand scheme of things, I was in good working order. So health wise, I was fine, yes I was overweight (in my opinion) I wanted to be back at the weight I had been in my 20’s.

In his opinion, I was doing really well, my blood pressure and all the other factors he concerns himself with were good. So I was 20 pounds maybe even 25 pounds heavier .. so what, I was also older and less active than I had been in my younger years. He suggested at the time that I get out more, walk, get fresh air, spend less time worrying about my weight be thankful for my good health, and appreciate that I was healthy and able to get out and do things.. in other words.. practice a positive attitude.

I have taken to making sure I get out every day, I may miss a day here or there, but basically I go out every day and walk, or sit/commune with the wildlife in various locations… It is MY time… I allow myself the pleasure of taking in “nature”.. “seasons” “weather”… I interact with the wildlife and other people I meet along the way. I spend time in the present. Over time, being present/focused and being in the moment has become natural for me. It didn’t happen overnight, its been years in the “doing”.

I don’t worry/obsess about my estrogen levels, I don’t go looking for middle age problems, i simply enjoy whatever the day brings my way, and move on … Sometimes it works like a charm, other times I may come across a hiccup or two, but…. I know… this is now.. and it will pass. If I am tenacious about anything, it is about learning to”let go” to live my life the best way I can.. and move on. So brain drain becomes just a cute catch phrase to grab attention… did it work?

Get things started with grit. If you work on things in daily life with the attitude of “let’s do it!” you will feel a power to accomplish thigs. People around you will rely on you.

Friday, final du semana

When I see an oak tree … I think of endurance, strength, majestic … locally our LCBO (Liquor control board of Ontario) has put out a statement that once they run out of their current supply of paper bags, they will no longer be providing them. Customers will have to supply their own bags like we are required to do at grocery stores … interesting feedback… some customers just shrug, they have to do so already in the supermarkets etc. so why not. Other’s protest because paper is recycled. However the argument that it will save millions of trees… is what stands out for me.

Think of how much “service” we get from a tree, how many homes /shelter it provides for our feathered friends and other wild life. The last couple of years have seen how climate changes have meant we are experiencing more severe storms. Storms that do damage to the forest/woodlands, we see broken tree limbs everywhere, and trees that have gone to standing tall and proud to broken shreds torn apart and left splintered and dying from the fierce winds and heavy ice/snow build ups.

Develop new ideas through your imagination – softly and flexibly. If you could find a way to add a twist you will have more joy.

Yesterday I was drawn to a jewelry store, had not been in one for many many years. I was in a shopping center on my way to speak to an internet provider (kiosks are found in the big shopping malls, easy parking/access) I don’t even know what took me into the shop, I have rings I have not worn in years. When my husband passed, I simply put everything away and have only occasionally slipped a ring on .. but never kept it on. Long and short of it, I have now got a ruby ring on my finger.

Rubies are 9.0 on the Mohs hardness rating scale, it trails on the diamond on the list of hardest naturally occurring gems. A ruby can form in marble, which causes a lack of iron, and leads to an intense red colour. They can also form in basalt rocks, giving them a higher iron content, making them darker. They are created deep below the earth’s surface under extreme heat and pressure. It has been awhile since I’ve wanted to feel the connection one can get from handling or having a piece of the “earth” against one’s skin. I wanted to be able to see the ruby, so I got a ring and not a necklace. It s a pretty little thing set in white gold. oval, the setting allows for it to be worn all the time.

“Ruby Meanings, Symbolism, and Folklore

  • The word ruby comes from Latin ruber, meaning red. In Sanskrit, the ruby is called ratnaraj—king of the precious stones.
  • For centuries, rubies have signified passion, protection, and wealth.
  • Ancient warriors in Burma and China adorned their armor with the gem to provide protection in battle. Some went as far as inserting the gems into their flesh, believing it created invincibility.
  • The ruby has become a symbol of love and commitment. It was once thought to protect against misfortune and illness.
  • Early cultures treasured the gem, believing that it held the power of life due to its color association with blood. It has also been thought to remedy bleeding and inflammation, and increase body warmth. ” (taken from internet)

I have not really come to any understanding of why I felt I needed or wanted to have this stone.. but, it will eventually “come to me” Life has been hectic and very busy in many ways.. yet… I have a quiet and very content part of me that I am trying to balance with my day to day activities.

I want to move forward- I want to meet the new season looking ahead and not behind me. A friend suggested to me that I might want to take a trip, go away – but honestly, the thought of taxis, airports, hotels, rushing to get somewhere, doesn’t appeal to me. As another friend said to me, you are not a person who likes to lie in the sun, walk the beaches or swim. I don’t drink, go out at night, party, eat out…so vacation resorts would not be a good fit.

I don’t need to travel someplace to explore and spend time in the outdoors, I do that here. I am no longer interested in the latest and newest fashion trends… in fact… I tend to wear the same old things day in and day out. I call them comfort clothes.

So what gives with the ring… I have no idea,no one knows.. it will eventually come to me (why)… meanwhile, it will be my “spring fling”

OH.. for those of you who know me and my passion for bling… this does not have the bling factor. LOL I know.. it is a new day!

Sunday 16

Make the best use of materials and money. You can do different things as materials and money play their roles. How to make them work is important.

It wasn’t that long ago that there was snow on the ground, these past few days of record breaking warm weather for this time of year has started the “spring cleaning” buzz. Trying to catch some rays on the deck the other day was great till one neighbour started to vacuum up leaves/debris from the winter, which brought on a flurry of activity from another neighbour who decided to power wash his deck. Timing right.

“If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceable with all” Romans 12:18″

Harmony does not require sameness. A single note played simultaneously thru different instruments creates beautiful music when different chords are played.

Every day holds new blessings. Oyashikiri.
