PL Precept #1 Life is Art

Quinny

You all met Quincy last June/July when he came to live with me, this is his sister Quinny. I didn’t name her, someone at the SPCA must have. Quincy and I have had a wonderful time getting to know one another. He is a gentleman, a loving soul, who has won the hearts of all who meet him. Living alone with me tho’ has proved to be a tad boring for him. He is after all only a little over 2 years old.

It has been almost a month maybe .. that the idea that he would like company began to appear on my radar. I resisted … I’m happy living my quiet, predictable life.. and he was not overly pushy, but he was allowing me to hear his lonely cries in the middle of the night. That would be his active time, and he was finding the 3 story house boring.. he has had a lot of time to explore and make it his… I began a half hearted search, before the holiday… than the thought got lost in the busy activities of the holidays.

Yesterday it was like an itch.. I began early to visit all the pet shops in the area… I hesitated on going to the SPCA I never seemed to arrive during open hours. But. after coming up empty at the PetSmart and PetValues, I headed for the SPCA.. someone was coming out the door so I went in (coincidence) … the place was very quiet, ahhhhh … a sign .. Mondays.. not open.. Adoption hours started today, Tuesday.

Long and the short… most of the show cages were empty… but in the last room, a pair of eyes followed me, when I looked .. it was Quinny, she was very quiet, and VERY SHY. Her name, Quinny stopped me in front of her cage… Did Quincy send me there? What were the chances there would be a cat called Quinny on this day of all days. it was all too easy.. the gal at the front desk, brought her into a room so I could spend time with her.. even tho’ it wasn’t an “open” day for them… She even provided me with a crate to bring her home in… (my name was still on file .. I was already in the system.) ….Quinny was coming home with me.. and to Quincy.

As fate would have it, my “symptoms” kicked into high gear. I called the pharmacy, they got a prescription ready for me, I had to basically drop Quinny home to Quincy’s care.. and go pick up the medication. I came home, took the medication and left Quincy and Quinny to their own devices. I know! unheard of right. but, the Universe had me knackered…

This morning, I woke to Quinny being at the” wait station”, where Quincy usually is most mornings… but as soon as I sat he was there for his morning greeting. He obviously is watching and keeping her inline, he is being gentle and kind, she is more vocal, but his steady quiet insistence will win the day. He is amazing. He did take over the new bed and scratch post… made sure his scent was all over it. He now has someone to play with, and share in his adventures.

With a prayerful mind, put your heart into everything you do.

Even when you’ve put in your best effort, you may have overlooked something. With a humble mind, take a second look to check for mistakes or oversights. (PL2014.7)

With the start of the new year, I was cleaning out files, and found this advert for when I was working with a product called Powertex, and giving demos .. so other “artists” could learn about the product. These were garden sculptures I had done over time to demonstrate its capabilities. The one piece lasted outside in our Canadian winters for over 10 years. (bottom right) In the end it was the center piece for climbing vines.

Change, the only constant in life.. is change.

Begin each day with a renewed sense of appreciation

Always remember that you are here today thanks to God, and thanks to the many people around you. Let’s make each day meaningful by starting out with a feeling of gratitude.

Dress warmly. enjoy your day!!

Powertex was a great product for me to work with, I used it with Paverpol, (face upper left corner) I lean towards mix media expressions.

Don’t give up! Keep at it until you accomplish what you’ve started. The key to achieving something is to stick to it. If you are able to continue something from start to finish, you will be sure to accomplish it no matter how difficult the task is. (PL2014.5)

We are experiencing a deep freeze here.. there will be several days with minus degree weather, there is a lot of hope that this year the longest skating ring (Rideau Canal) will be operational. Warnings are going out tho’….. Please stay off the ice till the barriers are removed. Crews are still working on the ice…. should be an exciting Ice Sculpture contest this year!!!

Stay warm and safe… this is cold/flu season … if you are not feeling well, stay home.. with the dipping temperatures, and humidity… the bacteria/virus’s will have a field day! Time to bring out the down … and put the kettle on for ginger tea..!

How did you ring in the new year? Was it a big event for you? What does it mean to you? Has it or does it make a big impact on your life? I ask out of curiosity, in my world the moving into a new year, is a very personal and exciting time, not so much because it is a reason to celebrate and party, but because it is a milestone, one I can reflect on, and review all the goodness and positives that have enriched my life. I get to share the solar calendar with friends, and then later, the welcoming of the new lunar year.

When my Dad was alive, he would take me to big events, where there was always a dragon dance, with firecrackers, and the smell of incense filled the air along with the smoke from the fire crackers. We would go down to Chinatown, and he’d hoist me up so I could see the Dragon dancers make their way along the street .. merchants would stand in front of their shops… welcoming the dragon… there would be fresh oranges and rice on the small shop alters.. welcoming the new year spirits …. encouraging the dragon to bestow good fortune on their businesses, and good health and happiness to their families.

When my Dad passed the old traditions died with him… In my maturity, I have kept many of the old ways, the cleaning out of the “old” to make way for the “new”. I begin in late fall, meditating and reviewing what “life” is like for me.. Thinking of how I feel, what is happening with me, physically and intellectually. The biggie is…. is my life filled with contentment, am I happy. I am pleased that for the most part, yes … I am a happy person.. and.. I know contentment. Sure I get upset, and yes I have moments, but they are short lived, because, I like and prefer to be happy. We are all blessed with opportunities in life, I strive for and enjoy, quiet, serene, and tranquility. Simplicity.

Always express your true self with honesty and integrity

We feel a deep sense of joy when we are able to express our true selves. Always focus on your true feelings and express yourself honestly.

TRUE HAPPINESS COMES FROM WITHIN

My thought as I drifted off to sleep –

Solitude offers stillness of one’s own being.

The joy of/in simple pleasures

Happy week-end everyone.

A visit to the Sahara, Marrakech and a peek at Chefchaouen

With the white world around us at the moment, those wishing for a white Xmas this year, got their wish. And, with the deep freeze we had for a couple of days there is hope that the longest skating rink in the world will open this year. So saying, when these pictures came in from one of our “world” travellers.. I wanted to share.. the picture lower left … had me wondering why a carpet is rolled up against the outer door? Could it be there for prayers… I have other pictures to share of the blue doors found in that part of Africa… watch for them. Isn’t the brave little flower delightful. Hope you are all having a wonderful end of the year…

*** If you face a situation head on, a Path will open up ***

No matter how hard the situation is, face it head on. If you approach it seriously you will be able to find a way to break through. Make today, a memorable day! Let’s try to put our whole heart into whatever we say or do, as our unique signature.

There was a picture I saw of our “traveller” riding a camel across the desert. it “almost” had me calling CAA for travel arrangements.. then I remembered, cold or extreme heat.. I like cool and cold. the memory of that time in Japan during one of their “heat waves” flashed across my gray matter… I’ll continue to be an arm chair traveller… cheers everyone! See you on Dan’s page,, he is on hiatus till Jan.9.25.. but have a look. https://nofacilities.com/2024/12/26/just-in-case-3/#comment-377595

The art of sleeping. Something so basic… yet… often so difficult to achieve.

My furry companions were very good at encouraging, and showing me how…. Letting go… and simply …chilling… would be beneficial to my well being.

ie. not making the bed as soon as I get up… would not ruin my day, or spoil my relationship with the world.

and… Quincy has shown me that at anytime, one can close one’s eyes and just “turn off”

“You have your own way of doing things, and others have their way of doing things. Don’t worry about what other people will say.” Simply… allow life to guide you. when we are open to new ways of doing something, we expand our personal horizons.

Accept Everything

Life is filled with moments, sometimes happy and a times, inconvenient. It is important to first accept every situation as it occurs and try to accept and understand it for what it is.
