missing – 1 gym bag

PL Principle # 6    I will not be stubborn, being captured by my own thoughts.

gym bag IMG_0915

For weeks even months I have talked of getting back to the gym.  Always there was a reason why I just couldn’t get there. Now with the sun shining into my office, and a day facing me with my feeling blah and ho hum, I thought, I’ll go to the gym after my morning meditations etc.  The Virgo/goat that I am, I wanted to organize.  Couldn’t find my gym bag, I looked and just couldn’t find it.  Husband to the rescue, he came and looked with me, wandered down the hall and came back, “its in your office, you can’t miss it”

PL Principle # 3  I will live with a mind of appreciation towards others and things.

“How did it get in there, that isn’t where I usually keep it?” said I with a bit of the morning

surliness.  Wise husband, quietly says he doesn’t know and returns to his morning activities.

PL Principle #10  I will live in true harmony with my spouse.

I come into my office and there it is sitting in the corner waiting to be found again.

PL Principle # 2        I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather.  Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

punching bag

Are you  someone who goes to a gym…. have you ever considered working out with a punching bag.  The jabbing, kicking and punching gives an immensely powerful take no prisoners feeling, and it also helps with weight loss, co-ordination and strengthening.   Great for sharpening reflexes too.  Find someone to show you the how to’s though before you jump in.

PL Precept 19.  Begin once you Perceive.

Have a great day, thanks for sharing this moment with me… you’ve helped me get going today… thank you, thank you, thank you!

PL Precept # 21. Live in Perfect Liberty…..

lazy >< motivation

quote Jeff Foster -fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akkamaihd,net

What if I feel like having the best darn lazy afternoon i can have.  Objective, doing only what makes me feel sinfully lazy, resting in a chair, feet up, with nothing but a good book, or better still, closing my eyes and enjoying the sound of nothing in particular.

Why, must I feel that I should be motivated to do something, like wash the bathroom floor, or dust the cobwebs from the ceiling.  Or, motivated to answer a phone because it is ringing.  We are often compelled to respond to the “need of others” rather than to listen to our inner voice, to chill/relax and to let our own thoughts and feelings take their time to materialize.

doorway to…

Scotland, church of St.Mary's andSt. Fillans at Glenfinnan

Wow… what would it be like to open a door and have that vista before you….  This is a doorway at the Church of St. Mary’s and St. Filllans at Glenfinnan, Scotland.  I sat and gazed wistfully at the far away mountains peaks, and let me thoughts drift lazily across the water. Hmm what are the ambient sounds as one steps out the door.  Are the rays of the sun warm enough to wrap us in a comforting embrace…. Is there a slight breeze coming up from the lake/river that will bright with it the hint of lush woodland vegetation…..  Today was a day to daydream.

Doors, represent opportunities, some are locked and closed tight, they need a key to turn the lock, and others, sit slightly open, teasing us with just  a peak inside.  While some are open wide, and we know what we will find inside, or we think we d0

Even now I know, that many of my inner rooms have keys that have not turned  in years, and that memories and emotions I may not want to revisit are tucked away, waiting… for a day that may never come.  In PL we are taught to  tackle our issues in the order that they appear in our lives.  That is not always possible, if we live in the moment, change is a constant factor. Sometimes when we do finally return, we find that the wood is aged, and the lock has rusted into place so that re-entry will not be easy.

I like a simple life, free of drama and remorse…. if I have gone on with my life and I’m content and happy then what is behind those doors has come and gone in my life, it not longer matters. I know… I truly believe, that should the day ever come that what is behind those doors is needed, then I will find a way, to open them, until then, I will admire the weathering and aging … I will take myself out an open door into the sunshine and the happiness of living my life in the NOW.

Come on, wear comfortable shoes, and lets explore.  Let’s begin our trek down to the water’s edge. Let go of the past, let’s walk hand in hand into the start of another day.  Wipe the cobwebs away, open your mind and heart to the wonders of a brand new day!

How we adapt and adjust to the changes around us says a lot about how we manage/cope in life.  This Panda was not deterred by a bit of snow.

Is this how we want to live our lives, do we want to wear face masks when we step outside our doors.   This is how people in Beijing have to protect their lungs during polluted days in their city.

1000 years

yew tree 1000years old

This is a picture of a 1000  year-old Yew Tree, in west Wales/Pintast  can you imagine walking under the canopy of these branches.  I have such appreciation for the natural wonders in this world.  You have only to walk up to any tree and take a close look at its bark, or the way it reaches to the sky, open and trusting.

“It is time for a worldwide moratorium  on logging all remaining ancient forests” Dr.Reese Halter-Broadcaster, conservation, and Educator.  It was appalling to learn that Tasmania’s World Heritage Wilderness could lose 44%  or 165,000 acres of its 389,000 acres.  “Foresters have more than enough denuded lands to grow plantations and practice the art and science of forestry”  Harmony Witherspoon.   The Huffington Post headline  read, Delisting Tasmanian Wilderness Impoverishes Australia.a9cc912d006b391dbff302468d8eff34

Australia is not alone fighting to save its forests. Even in the cities, we see people cutting down trees so that they can have more parking lots, or sprawling shopping malls, while not so old shopping areas, go dormant and become concrete run down buildings. left to die slow deaths.  Houses that once had nice landscapes, go from one home, to 2, maybe 3 on that very same lot, with no green space or room for a tree at all.

This old road leads to an ancient stone circle, in Ballynoe, Co. Down, Ireland, this didn’t happen overnight, it took years for the trees to grow into one another and form the welcoming trail that welcomes the visitor to  enter and discover a magical place.

We often take for granted the body that we use on a daily basis.  We learned to walk as children, and to use our hands as we needed.  An example I often use, is I drive I get into a car,  start it, then with the training and experience of years of driving I get on my way.  I don’t think about how the car is driving or what mechanical wonders it has under its hood, I just drive. Yes yes, I do make sure it is serviced and that it gets the proper attention it should, but I myself don’t get under the hood.

Hands are however another matter.  With the passing of time I have  learned to live with minor bouts of arthritis, I’ve watched as my middle finger on one hand developed its own slant and curve, and I’ve accepted it.. what else could I do.  Then a few months back I noticed that there was a tingling, and a funny sensation in my fingers that sometimes worked its way up my arm.  Had to take notice of that didn’t I.  I use my hands daily for a number of things, one big task they perform is that I use a keyboard for hours on end.

When the discomfort began to really be a bother, I began to speak of the malaise. Wonder out loud if you will if it was connected to my being diabetic. When it began to act up enough that I was getting really concerned, I made an appointment with the doctor.  After some discussion the leaning is that it is more than likely carpal tunnel … this I’ve had before and dealt with it… (no surgery)…. it was many years ago, I’d forgotten…. and yes…I had also slipped up on the exercises and stretching of the fingers and wrist joints.

PL Principle #15….  I will not do anything overly.

This is a perfect example, where I have been happily going along typing away every day for hours on end and not making time to do exercises, and to rest my hands.  It is like driving the car and expecting it to continue functioning at top-notch speeds and efficiency, while I neglect to have it tuned up and keep it gassed up etc.  (clinicalposters.com)

PL Principle #1.  I will live paying careful attention, putting Makoto (sincerity) into all I say and do.

I got lazy, I didn’t tend to my needs, I got arrogant believing that I could just “keep trucking”, but the “Universe” stepped in and let my body speak … and it did, loud and clear. I have a greater appreciation for the work my hands do for me… and I will at making amends.

PL Precept # 15 .. All is a mirror

PL Precept #20  Live  maintaining equilibrium between mind and matter.

Bonjour , hallo..13th

a1b4af1d1ef43cb8bfd3680426582ee7

I’m not going to add to this… for today, I will meditate and cogitate on  this one.  It is a big lesson and one that I have not  mastered yet.  It is another beautiful day, therefore, it is a perfect day to reflect on why I find this lesson so difficult to follow through on.  Intellectually I understand … hmmm is my mind being lazy again?

c9b295b47598a7147e1d3102a98d815a

Perhaps this will be a tad bit more motivational…  the kitty picture has me wanting to go find a sunny spot to curl up on a cushion and go back to sleep, or grab a short nap.

3e90d593120b21efca1488b464663671

Yes this is better I might not manage a stretch like that…. but I can sure do my own version of a good long stretch.. hmmm just thinking about it has me motivated to go look for my exercise mat.

Have a good day dear friend, drink lots of water, eat your crunchy veggies, and see you soon,  Smile it is contagious.

chicken chop suey

chicken chop suey

Yummy, who remembers when going to a Chinese restaurant meant someone was going to order Chicken Chop Suey,  The other dish that was always ordered by friends was  Chicken Gai Ding, below is Kung Pao Gai Ding, (chicken with peanuts)

Chicken kung pao gai ding

And of course I must not forget the sweet and sour chicken balls.  I never understood where these dishes came from, we never ate such dishes at home.  It wasn’t till I was much older, living away from home and in another part of the world, that I learned how creative Chinese cooks were.  They used ingredients known to locals to create similar dishes to ones eaten at home, but yet totally unlike what we ate, because back then, the ingredients required to cook dishes that were traditionally eaten, would  have been 1 – foreign to the western taste buds, and probably, #2  – ingredients were just not readily available. It is not like today, when you can find Asian necessities in almost any and all major shopping areas.

Chicken balls sweet and sour

Even today, it is not unusual to have to have two menus.  One for the customer who likes the western version of Chinese/Asian cooking, and one for the families who prefer more traditional style dishes.  I have noted though, that the palate and the desire to experience a more traditional dish is /or has become more in vogue.  The pungent and tantalizing aromas that I delight in when I walk into an Asian supermarket, do nothing for my husband, that is what makes people so unique, is that we each and every one of us, has our own reactions to the ambient sounds, smells and visions around us.

Chop Suey is a culinary example of putting food types together to create create a harmonious taste, that will give the eater a pleasant reaction to the blended spices and veggies/meat.  Each culture has their own way of cooking a vegetable or meat so that it reflects their artistry.

We all eat.  Those of us who cook, love the magic that takes place when we stir fry, steam, roast, grill, BBQ etc.  Presentation is part of the craft.  But best of all, it is the pleasure we have when we taste and eat what we have created. When guests or family enjoy what is put before them. its a bonus.

Preparing a meal and then sharing it, is a very special “event”  Meals don’t just happen, we have to plan them.  The love we put into pulling together a meal I believe is a an ingredient that is without  measure.  Love is the ingredient that should be in everything we do and say.

Sometimes life gives us chop suey days…… but if we pull them all together in a way that employs a proactive and loving flavour.  It will melt in our mouths.
