Colosso dell’Appennino

There are times in life when I can only sit, and look in wonder at what is before me. This is a photograph found on pictify.com of a sculpture. Colosso dell’Appennino in the Parco Mediceo di Pratolin near Florance Italy. Sculptor Giamologna (1580) credit given for photo is Dave Ellis.

Day by day, find time to embrace the beauty that is in the world for us to see and enjoy. We are on a journey of discovery, how we view our world will greatly impact on our perception of the life we are living.

Simplicity

If you are fortunate to be walking or driving slowly by, the rhythmic sound of the horse’s hooves and the turning wheels is very pleasant.

Soft muted shades of the Amish clothes, to some is very soothing. Laundry that hands outside to dry always has such a fresh smell to it. Winters, laundry is hung under cover or outdoors, just as in other seasons.

When a large piece of a barn has to be moved, Amish men come together to carry it along the highway to its destination. this was in the Kalona area of Iowa.

Simple, plain, no mirrors, the basics.

Now this is an Amish quilt I’d like to get a closer look at. Wouldn’t you?

This brings back memories of days when we would see sights like this on country roads if we were driving through farm country. The smell of freshly cut hay wafted through the car windows as we followed slowly along behind. It gave us a wonderful opportunity to just sit back and coast along while taking in the sights around us. When the farmer could, they would usually pull over and give us the OK to pass.Noooooooooooooo, not what you think. It is common in some Amish communities to allow the use of a telephone, but not in a home. Several families will share a telephone, that is conveniently place in a small wooden shanty between the farms. If there is a need to use the internet, there are usually libraries in nearby towns.

Sewing is done by hand or with a treadle sewing machine. I was very humbled when invited into an Amish home. I saw her machine and her home-made quilting frame. She worked at night by kerosene lamp and what ever light came in through the windows. She told me she did most of her sewing and quilting in the winter months when there was less to do in the fields.

Simplicity – when was the last time you walked along a stream in your bare feet, turned off all the lights at night and just enjoyed the evening stars. There is a saying ” If you want something you’ve never had, then you have got to do something you’ve never done.”

Live your life!

Perfect Liberty

This is the PL Peace Tower at headquarters in Japan. In 1970 the Second Founder oversaw the completion of the PL Peace Tower. The Second Founder established the Federation of New Religious Organizations of Japan, he was appointed to the Commission for Religious Cooperation. During his tenure he visited the Vatican three times, meeting both Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II to talk of World Peace.

The Peace Tower is a non-sectarian monument built at the PL Holy Land in Japan, it is dedicated to ALL from the beginning of time, who have lost their lives a s a result of war.

May 2015 marked 100 years since the popular poem was written.

Peace begins at home, in our hearts. When we can sincerely live (with Makoto) for the sake of others and society. Peace begins when we live with love in our hearts. PL Precept #14 – world Peace is Everything!

unrequited love

From the very first moment that I caught sight of you

I knew you meant something to me

There was something about the way you stood

So proud, so regal, so totally beautiful

I really wanted to see more of you.

For days I saw you in my dreams,

I spoke of you, I asked about you, I wanted to know all about you.

No one could tell me anything, you were a mystery

I persisted, I called around, a friend went out to try and find you

She wrote her excursion had not been successful

Finally I drove down the highway where I’d first seen you

Be still my heart, there you were, in daylight you even looked more appealing

I got out and walked near you, as I got closer I saw you were older than I thought

It didn’t matter, you had captivated and captured my heart

knowing nothing about you, and not being able to get access to information about you

All I could do was to admire what i saw

Yes I saw you had really lived your life at one time with someone who had really

spent a lot of time with you

Now it appeared you had been cast aside,

probably for a younger model.

Had I the space I’d take you home and let you graze in the pasture

With gentle breezes and flowers in the meadow

Somehow I know the neighbours will just not want you on our front lawn

I’ve taken pictures, and I want you to know

That although I can’t have you with me, you will always have a place in my heart

For now your seats are empty and you aren’t going to go far

but.. you’ve earned your rest the mileage you’ve put on, the challenges you’ve lived

have given you the right to call it a day… I hope someone else will find you some day

and enjoy your as I have.. I cannot bring you home, I can’t own you,

but by golly I sure can appreciate you, yes, just the way you are.

If I could wrap my arms around the Jeep to hug it, I would.

Aging

Good Morning! another day begins. Aging, as humans this is a journey we will all take. Unlike mechanical or man-made objects, we aren’t parked and left to rust. The process of aging takes place in a very different way, for each and every one of us. Even the manner we are laid to rest has changed over the years.

Dancing when we partnered and spoke in rhythm to the music that was in our lives. Activity for many was hours of dancing to the sounds of the time. Roller skating, or ice skating, had us outside, for others there was hockey,skiing,ice climbing or racing, and ladies remember the two-step on skates. snowshoeing, biking! As the years roll by, do we do as much as we used to do? Maybe the type of activity changes, but it is important to keep moving, doing, and stretching not only our bodies but our minds.

We need to put our hearts and mind into everything we do. Activity keeps the momentum of life moving forward., Seize the day, get out and enjoy! Fresh air, fresh outlook, all contribute to a new perception. Life is Art…..

a new season will soon be here…

The warm fuzzy glow of a warm house, frost on the windows, air that is crisp and clear. Hmm not everyone smiles dreamily at the thought of the coming of winter, but I do. There is something to be said about “nesting”. Like a squirrel gathering nuts before the snow comes, I get in supplies like I think that it is the late 1800’s or early 1900’s and we need to be prepared.

Winter weather has been rather erratic of late, wow, places that seldom saw snow have been hit with blizzards, crops in the southern states have had some brutal storms come their way. All over the world, winter comes and changes where we live, and we have to adjust.

Before the days of instant news, and social media, we simply dealt with what came along. It might not have always been fun, or easy, but we took measures to do our best to cope with the power outages, furnace malfunctions, delayed transportation etc. Now with “instant fixes, and gratification” it seems that there is more of a “panic” mode that sets in. OMG the cell phone is not working, or the TV signal is all askew.

Arggghhh my PC is down. Honeeeeee the internet is not working, anguish at its best. LOL been there done that. Remember the days of trying to read by candle till the lights came back on. How about the wind up radio, so you can hear the news should there be an announcement of when the power lines will be up again.

Winter is a special time, a time for spiritual rebirth, for reconnecting with the inner YOU. A time where we can enjoy seeing the world new and fresh, We are all unique and different in our own way, personalities and lifestyles vary. One thing we all share is the gift of life and LOVE.

Let us do our best to see the positive in our lives, and to appreciate and show appreciation to those who share in our world. Whether close or far, reach out and say hello, show you care.

At 24 young Dorothy Hart a successful actress in Hollywood, left her career to become a Catholic nun, Mother Prioress Dolores Hart What a change this young lady made in her life… Thomas Merton said “A man knows he has found his vocation when he stops thinking about how to live and begins to live.” We are guided in life though an interplay of human responsibilities and divine directives. Spiritual maturity requires diligence, a clever mind and a trusting /loving heart.

A few ingredients for a good relationship are, respect, courtesy, appreciation and a dedication to the commitment, whatever that may be. Negative thinking is something that afflicts us all at one time or another. PL Precept # 15, All is a Mirror. No matter how often I revisit this Precept, it always presents me with a new perspective, life is an ongoing lesson, and I am the dedicated student. Part of living in the moment is accepting the feelings that can wash over me at any given time, The homework is applying myself to understanding the moment, and then letting it go. A negative moment, will only be so, if we don’t apply positive action (s).

Wherever life leads you

With whoever you are sharing

with another or on your own

“Always be with God”

whining and complaining

There are days when this could be me. My busy mind chattering and chattering about dear knows what. I don’t think I whine and complain, but that is because I don’t want to believe that I am just as guilty as the next person at having a negative day. All my life I have known that no two people will see the mountain view the same way, even though they are looking from the same vantage point.

An exercise that we practice in PL (Perfect Liberty) is to work at accepting the differences in life and to respect the difference in others.

I fell short today, I disagreed with a sentiment sent to me by a caring sister. I vented. yet on reflection, she was only giving voice to her perspective and in doing so, used the language and comfort terms of her personal beliefs. I want respect for my beliefs I in turn need to respect hers, and allow her, her form of expression. The bottom line is she cares. That I appreciate.

PL Principle 21 – I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather Rather I will always be creative and will look for shortcomings in my own thinking and actions.

This is a vintage print that appeared in a mailing I received, I wish I could credit the artist, but I can’t. Art is very subjective, what appeals to me, may not be your cup of tea. For me the moment I saw this print, I was mesmerized. The colours, the position of the model, the bird cage, the total image evoked a sense of longing in me. Certainly not in a negative way, just a feeling, a passion that set me to wanting to create prose, or write a poem. I’m sure that at one time or another, such moments have happened to you. What do we do with these inspirations, these “ah Ha” light bulb moments.. do we act on them, or does the moment pass and we move on.

PL Precept # 3 – God appears through one’s self……..

In PL (Perfect Liberty) we believe that the Universe is always guiding and directing us, It is we who fail to listen or hear…when something happens out of the blue, or suddenly we find ourselves faced with a challenge we are not prepared for. In Pl we see that as an act or happening created by the Universe to get our attention. We are taught to take stock, pay attention, open our minds to possibilities, to focus and seek resolution.

PL Precept # 7 – Everything exists in Relativity….

When I saw the above print, it started a thought process, that began with the emotions I felt when I saw the print, and then the various stages of evolution the initial thought produced in my mind’s data base. More than 12 hours later I still wanted to share the print with you. Perhaps it will inspire a thought process in you?

For me… it had me looking for a gaudy ring full of bling……. go figure……..hey…………….. what is… is, I share with you all of me, imperfections included.!

The PL 21 Precepts reveal the true path of life for all humankind. Beginning with Precept #1, Life is Art…. as the foundation. There are 20 more precepts that stem from it and are closely interrelated with one another. Each Precept is written in simple and clear language, but the truth revealed in their words applies Universally to ALL….

Thank you to all of you who read and follow me on my journey. You are my inspiration.
