Aging – best before date

aging

Maxine always has something to say!  As we mature, age, our bodies start to lose the zest and vigor, our minds may still want to play and experience all that life has to offer, but the balance between body and mind has shifted.  We’ve all at one time or another had the e-mails or faxed  “words of wisdom”  passed around to us.

aging .1

All cute and all words to quote and use when times get tough when we think we are getting old.  Usually if I am to believe the moaners and groaners out there in the 25-45 year age group getting older is a process and accept it or not, it is a journey that has to be taken. The magazines, and marketing shows all want us to think that we can stop the process, there are products out there to make one look younger, or a way to apply makeup so you take years away. The French have an expression, “whether you want or you don’t want it, life happens”  that is a literal translation.

Laughter is timeless – Imagination has no age – and Dreams are forever (Walt Disney)   I can tell you that when for some reason or another I’ve had to visit a home for the elderly, I don’t  hear a lot of laughter. When you look into the faces of the men and women who are sitting there lined up in chairs, facing or backs to the sunshine. You usually meet  eyes that are blank, with no laughter waiting to spill over, just a tired, resigned look of apathy.  No one wants to be in that position, no one goes out of their way to be alone in their very senior years, but for some this is where their journey will bring them.

Even the young are facing such moments. Social media, has a lot of pluses, but it also has the potential of leaving us more alienated from life than we’ve ever found ourselves before. We (society) has taken steps to ensure that what we put into and on our bodies has a best before date emblazoned on it.  We joke, and talk about getting old, but we don’t really prepare, really prepare for old age.  We accept that a plant will grow and go through the cycle of its life and die, but our own life cycle, we tend to put on hold. We want to live at all costs, and we are always so busy planning how we will do that.. We do not live the moment.  If we are unhappy with something, we cleverly, create other means of satisfying that itch, or passion.  There is a lot of talk of improving our own SELF.  it is a huge task, do we really work hard putting our utmost sincerity (makoto) into dealing with our own issues.  Happiness is something that begins within.  One first has to be happy with one’s SELF, in the end, that is all you have is your SELF.

Good Morning Everyone!

Celebrate the day, put your whole heart and makoto into everything you do (sincerity).  Never regret the choices you make, learn, embrace the moment and step into the next one.  The above picture appears in several places on Pinterest, and a different author of verse is under each one,  So to you dear artist and creator of this moment. I say kudos on a wonderful visual interpretation of life.

bird, Shoebill, aka Whalehead or shoe billed stork from Africa, livdes in swamps from Sudan to Zalmbia

Isn’t this just the cutest most adorable face.. looks like a big smile plastered on his/her face.  Its real, it’s called a Whale-head or Shoe-billed stork an dis found in tropical east Africa.  It can be found in large swamps from Sudan to Zambia.  It is interesting what can compel a person to want to go somewhere, this bird I’d really love to experience.  See it walk, hear how it communicates, what a wonderful morning discovery.

Swamp Art - The Ferryman's End in Eastern Ireland. Victoruia's Way, Roundwood, Co. Wicklow, Ireland

This Swamp Sculpture can be found in Eastern Ireland.  It is called the Ferryman’s End. (Victoria’s WayRoundwood.co. Wicklow, Ireland)   I’ve been to swampy areas in my travels, but I have never experienced for myself some of the world known swamp lands,   I was most intrigued by this sculpture, the artist had to conceive the idea, build it, and then place it. Amazing workmanship.   Since swamps to me are just boggy areas found in low lying land and usually freeze over come the cold weather. Swamps that house alligators, crocks and life forms all year round due to the totally different climate and geography hold a fascination for me.

Swamp -Ssouth Carolina

Photo by John Hunter, 9/2005 – he canoed through the swamp in South Carolina, I’m afraid that this morning I have lost myself in the swamps.   This can happen, I was going to talk on a very different subject, blame it on the Shoe-billed stork, his smile just captured my imagination and off I went further into the swamps. =^_^= I make no apologies, the artists/photographers of these pictures did such a good job of catching the moment, preserving them for us to enjoy, that I willingly wandered from point X to point B.  My choice. … now what do you think, I found this  house, wonder if it is for rent.  I might sit a spell and delight in the moment.  Care to join me?

Roots

tree roots, lori wright houldsworth PinterestRoots the life line that digs in, burrows down and holds a tree in place.  Roots travel through the soil around in search of food, in their search they provide stability  Ever wonder what your invisible roots look like.  Imagine that each experience we live through is another root forming, some are strong and are leaders, others are just side shoots and really only affect us for awhile.

tree root, beech, near Derbyshire,PeakDistrict National Park, England, by Keartona, flickrMother Nature, has given this old beech tree very strong roots, the tree above(top)  has very decorative roots.  We all know if we garden, or do landscaping, that a tree can be very resilient even when it has had a good portion of its roots cut away by a careless shovel, or with full intention by the gardener.  In the woods when I am traipsing through on one of my exploring forays, I actually go in search of roots, driftwood, fallen trees that have somehow come down exposing their root system, it is a treasure hunt, camera in hand I wander happily off trails and into the brush.  When I was actively carving and sculpting I searched for pieces that I could carry away that could be recycled into “art” that represented human forms and “activities”.  In nature, we see the natural progression of the life cycle of  plants/trees.  For our personal “selves” it isn’t so easy, yet each and every one of us has roots.

Ireland, the dark hedges

I could be one of these trees, this is a picture of “the Dark Hedges” of Ireland,  after all, trees that have lived a long and productive life, are mostly seen along side other trees.   We do see stand alone majestic trees, however, usually at one time, they were surrounded by other trees.  I am one of many on this earth.  But I see myself as a lone individual.  Nor am I able to see the scars (rings) of my life.  I may feel them, as my body ages, but I do not see them, nor do I see the roots that have held me and supported me through my journey. I am wanting to pay my respects to my roots, I want to nourish and take care of my roots.  To do so I first have to acknowledge them, and determine what is needed to keep them strong and healthy.

Now how about this, I want to be this tree offering shelter to the wee ones, (for more info on this picture, follow link shown in picture)   Roots come in all shapes and size, the older we get, the deeper our roots. Do you know, does a tree die from old age?

Vivre au jour le jour – to live from day to day; enjoy the present

crystal ball, bare branches in the ball, by april-mo flickr

Good morning dear reader, how is your day progressing?  Ever wonder just where yesterday went, never mind last week.  Do you have a crystal ball?  I’ve had many over the years, I’ve enjoyed their beauty, and the wonderful energy I’ve been able to associate with them, however, they have never shown me life in the future.  I believe in living in the present.  Yesterday happened, today is the present and today I will do my best to live each moment “being present”.  Allow me to share another French expression,  “vivre ce n’est pas respirer, c’est agir”  living is not breathing but doing” (Rousseau)

Last night, late, I thought I would prepare ahead for this morning’s visit.  I spent over an hour carefully reviewing and researching  photographs for today, I saved and filed them away.  I know I did this. I remember the pictures vividly and the thoughts that I lined up to go with them.  I went to bed happy with my research.  Content with the knowledge that this morning I would wake and my thoughts would be in order to sit down and share with you my musings,  Well so much for planning and being in the moment, today is another day, and this morning, when I started to write, my files simply couldn’t be found. Et voila, the best laid plans, gone into the void. In living a life of Perfect Liberty we learn that each moment is a turning point. (PL precept 18).  PL Precept #4 is Being annoyed limits our expression. –So.. instead I am sharing my moment with you, because I know, that each and everyone of you, have all had such moments, C’est la vie!  It’s life. =^_^=  no help from the crystal ball!

fd34d48efd4a3f79cfdc6a39e88eb93eDoesn’t this tree show its past with dignity and grace.  the photographer who is not known, had a wonderful “eye” for the beauty before him/her.  To the unknown artist  of this photograph, I say thank you.  I enjoy your work very much..  Your presentation of that moment in time, is breathtaking!

Let’s do our best to interact pro-actively with everything and anyone who comes into our sphere today, have a grand day my friends, I send my love and prayers to each and everyone of you.

Second chances

life is a mirror - pix found on flickr

No matter how hard life can seem at times, face it head on.  Live in the present, deal with today, every moment is a chance to approach the challenge in an artistic way.  If you have already tried to deal with it one way, and that way didn’t satisfy your requirements, then re-evaluate the situation.  If it involves someone else, or others, then you have to really understand your motivation for the change(s).  The only person you can change is yourself.  You can present options, and suggest when it comes to others, but you yourself cannot change them.  They might try to change for you, but it will be short lived, if it is not something that they themselves really want to do..

second chances

Second chances, when you ask about how others feel about second chances, you get mixed responses. Some feel that there is no such thing as a second chance, you either work out a situation or you move on, the world is full of new beginnings.  Others will say, if you are given a second chance it is because the first time, was the wrong time.  Tao, belief is that there is always Yin/Yang in life.  Two sides to a coin if you will.  I have found that in life, we flow from one side to the other, that is our “Divine” gift.  The Universe balances our lives with rain, sunshine, clouds and clear skies. When we make time to reflect/pray/meditate, we find the beauty in our lives, and appreciate them for what they are, “moments in time”….    Good Day Everyone… may your day be blessed with love and activities that make for happy memories.               Oyashikiri

Bom dia, happy Saturday everyone!

bcf23d06156dba21e102b6c1b8ebbfd8

A lazy start to another wonderful day, closes my eyes, smiles and remembers yesterday. Would you look at this tree, how old must it be, how extraordinary its experiences in life must have been.  It is hard to tell from a picture just how  high that opening is, right away, I want to climb up to explore inside.  In some ways it reminds me of a big bird with its mouth open, and other times when I look at it, I imagine its the entrance to a hobbit condo.  Imagination is wonderful isn’t, so is intuition.  Both are gifts we were born with, some of us use these gifts more than others.

cherry blossoms -peaceful by Glenn Waters

It is still too cool in this part of the world, to lay in the shade basking  under the warm healing sunshine, but in other parts of the country this could be one of your options today.  Yes I am a bit of a day dreamer, but what is wrong with taking a bit of “laid back” time for yourself.  Value your intuition, often we “know” a little voice tells us, we “need” to slow down, engage in some “me time”. Instead we look at our lists, or to the voices of friends who want to go here, there and everywhere, and you become “busy, busy busy”.  We are not machines, and we all know that machines break down, require ongoing maintenance.  Unlike the tree in the first picture, we might not show our scars and our age in the same way, but instinctively we do know when its time to rest, when we have pushed ourselves to a limit. The “Universe” looks out for us, Believe and have Faith, listen to your “intuition”, stop planning every minute of your day.  Allow time in your day to  P L A Y.  Don’t wait for a better time, that time will never just materialize.  Be good to your SELF today.  PRAY=recharge,  rain or shine, make this a day you’ll remember.            PL Precept #18.   Each moment is a Turning Point.

LIFE IS ART……    LIVE IN PERFECT LIBERTY (PL #1 and 21)

what new to you, can do for you

bridge, hanging, west coast trail by stodmyk on Flickr

Many years ago now, I crossed such a bridge. I didn’t bravely just walk across, I went through a bout of  “OMG I can’t do this, NO. no, no.. you can, but I won’t”  Eventually of course, I did go across and it was an exhilarating experience.  Having accomplished that bit of adventure, when I was asked to go salmon fishing an a fishing boat on the Pacific, my negativity was less emphatic, however, I did tell everyone that I do suffer from motion sickness, no problem I was told….  so on board we climbed and off we went.  All went well for the first while, but when we got further from land, and the water got really choppy, you guessed it… I was hanging on for dear life, and as green as fresh young asparagus coming out of the ground.  No matter how I tried to ride it out, it just wasn’t happening, we had to return to shore.  I share this with you because not all our adventures end on a happy note.  All we can do is give it our best.  I tried.

This brings me to more recent events.  After a very long winter of inactivity, I realized that my body, that once was active, and an almost daily visitor to the gym, had become a stay at home,, do nothing much physical blah.  I am not exaggerating, I really let myself go, don’t ask, it seemed right at the time I made the decisions to cut back at the gym, and then stop altogether.   When I looked in the mirror I saw from my shoulders up, hey when its cold outside and you don’t go out much, you walk around in very comfortable clothes. Then one day my friend said let’s go for a walk.  Sure I thought, no problem.  I’m a walker, last summer I would walk miles without batting an eyelash or breaking a sweat.  Off we went on our walk.  Surprise, we made it around  a couple of blocks, and I was ready to call it quits.  Shock and dismay was the order of the day!  My mind did not want to accept what my body was saying.  Me, dance all night, walk for miles, climb trails and hike, me!!!! could it really be.   Hmmmm look in the mirror again, wow, I’ve aged….. my body is no longer in its mid 30’s early 40’s I no longer have extra energy to burn, I’ve been lazy, and my body has relaxed and gotten S L A C K….  “you reap what you sow”.    Time to make changes.

exercise 1

That day was the start of a new “attitude” on my part.  No. not new to me, but I had to revisit and bring it back into the “now”.  It is like I used to listen to music all the time, and somewhere along the way, I stopped.  Then a friend played a song by Macy Gray and something inside said, “hello”.. I found the 2nd hand  CD  “On How Life Is”,  at  a Sally Ann,  it is new to me, and I’m once more listening to music.  My body is having to relearn activity, rebuild my core strength so I can walk and not get tired.  Fortunately I have a good friend who is a great walking coach and buddy, just knowing she is there for me when  I need her, helps big time….  All this to say, I’m back to the gym, I’ve got myself a Personal Trainer, so from time to time, I might not get my blog done on time, but I will surface, be patient with me please while I find my new “RHYTHM”

exercise

It is not the same bridge, but its the same kind of challenge, I’m heading towards another adventure….  Cycles of life repeat themselves, only in different formats.     Have a great day everyone!  Smile!!!    Oyashikiri

Wishing you a happy start to your day!

buffet,day

Let your day be a smorgasbord of challenges that excite and provoke you in a positive way. Sometimes we allow our days to be routine, we choose to do the same thing over and over again, in the very same way.  Try something different, whatever you do, put your whole heart into everything you  do, even it is as simple taking the stairs instead of the elevator.=^_^=

Just as the Earth goes through a never ending cycle of rebirth and renewal, so do we.  You are a spiritual being, a divine life in expression.  Life is Art.

buffet,night

Come the end of day, know you have done your  best,  to live each moment of your day, the best  way you could.  That is all that is asked of you.        Blessings…..       Oyashikiri

Nature’s natural beauty

prehnite, a stone that heals the healer, indues deep meditation, useful in visualization, and is powerful in contracting the higher selfHave you ever been enraptured by a crystal.  Mesmerized by the dancing light that is caught and redirected by the facets natural or man made.  This is a picture of Prehnite.  It is said that this mineral, heals the healer enhances precognition and inner knowing while aiding in accessing higher spiritual beings.  It has also been said that it induces deep meditation and is useful in visualization.  This mineral is on my “to see”  list next time we are visiting the museum not far from here. (note to self… mark calendar now for the Rock and Mineral show in Bancroft this summer!)

crystal tip

Somewhere in your home, jewelry box, desk drawer, do you have a stone or personal amulet.  We all have different ways of thinking and feeling, some of us will readily admit to having a slight leaning towards the magic of crystals and symbols, while others will deny any interest, yet they carry around a special coin or button a souvenir or memory from another time.  For awhile I had so many boxes, drawers and displays of the many minerals I’d collected either for display or wearing it was silly.  I really had too many, yes too many, how can I say that, or why do I say that? Simple, once you have so much of something that you no longer see all the wonderful treasures you collected, and barely remember then till you actually lay eyes on them again, then in my book, you’ve passed into the realm of a collector or hoarder.  If that mineral, gemstone or object that you once desired is now just sitting gathering dust, or in  a box packed away from the light and air that it grew in, why are you still holding on to it.

Labradorite, powerful protector in the mineral kingdom, protects against negativity

Did you know that Labradorite is the most powerful protector of the mineral kingdom, creating a shielding force throughout the aura.  It strengthens natural energies from within and protects against   negativity.  If you are going to explore alternate levels of consciousness, this is the mineral to have at hand.  Have you noticed, that I am tying in the natural wonder of the earths gifts to states of mind that we seek in our daily lives or patterns that we replay over the many “cycles” we live here on earth.  I stand guilty before you of such behaviour.  It was another of my personal lessons on letting go. LOL it wasn’t easy, it started years ago, and I am still in the process today… my “collections” were so many and varied.  Each time I did “let go” and either give away to friends/family or simply pass along, I felt an amazing sense of release, and believe it or not, if I was there to see the “objects” being admired and enjoyed, I’d swear that I saw the object glow in the light of being appreciated again.  There I’ve said it.  I may have owned it, but I no longer appreciated it.  I’m talking of objects here, but dear reader, stop and think…… this is behaviour, we often without thinking,  comes out when we are dealing with family and friends.  It is not intentional, it just happens.

Alaska,sunset,boundry range

Long Time friendships are a two way mirror, a gift … a blessing in our lives.  In the maturing process, I’ve realized just how precious a good friendship is.   Friends come in many shapes and sizes, at the core of a lasting friendship, is a bond of trust and love that endures the test of time.  Let’s enjoy and appreciate the personalities and differences we all have.
