Bom Dia on this lovely crisp Fall day. For the last couple of days I have pulled together Xmas holiday stash, and begun my card making for the November deadline, or maybe it is end of October. Must check that. I decided on a theme this year,since the cards are going to elderly persons that will stuck in home, hospitals and such over the holidays, I decided on a theme of “days gone by” I asked myself if I was going to be a recipient what would I enjoy.

There are many talented card makers who have been doing this for year, so there will be wide variety for the organizers to pick from. Have any of you given serious thought to what. you will be doing in December. I have not, thinking that far ahead was something I didn’t do. It has always been a time of year that I have not felt in sync with.

Yes I enjoy the colour and the gaiety that seems to arrive with the holiday season in December…. but the spiritual side of it all, I have found lacking. But that my dears is not something we will go into now. (huge sigh of relief heard throughout the land)

btw the cards are not finished yet, they are mid way. I see I’m running late, I will wish you all the best of what today will bring your way. I am looking forward to reading more of the autumn months from you, and the wonderful scenes you will post.

halloween, sept.7 Will I ever grow up, probably not, there is a part of me that loves the creative fun of the October season. The leaves start to change colour, the air in the mornings is fresh and crisp. Makes for a happy me. OK I confess my preference in life is to living happy.

I know of one of you for sure, that is groaning and shaking her head as she sees this post. “it is still September ” she will moan. But giggle and groan, Boooo Whooooo, this is a smile per page.

PL Principle 12 I will get up pleasantly in the morning.

I will never tire of saying, be happy, make that your choice, and the goal you have for every day and night. When I play with my stickers, paints and ideas, I get right into it, it is about me, me little old me, enjoying myself. Let us not forget the stolen hours, checking out thrift shops and crafting places for the materials, It is not about spending, it is about searching out the hidden treasure that will work (maybe) to help in your redesigning of an old book, or putting colour down on a fresh blank canvas.

LOL the howling month approaches. Love end of September, and all of October. Witches, goblins, spiders and bright vivid shades of oranges, blood reds and black. It is time to dig out the dies, stencils and paints. Yahoooo where is the glue.

OK so not everyone is enthusiastic and carries on like I do. But a roll of big bright ribbon with pumpkins and black cats… wow what a blast. here they are ready to be part of my stash

I had so much fun, just finding the right shadows to go with the ribbons.

Having fun is what life is all about. Happiness is… living each moment to the fullest. At one time I would have cropped out or photo shopped out shadows etc. Now I find that they are part of the moment, so I leave them in.

I found a picture of some torn canvas that I had happily ripped into shreds for a project. I think I still have some, so will go in search of what is left. I feel a new project coming on.. inspiration is rounding the corner. Time to rock and roll!!!!

Chop Suey Tuesday

With the goings on in the world today, I’m never sure what will greet me when I first listen to the news after a lovely night of sleep.

I first wrote this little poem back in the fall of 2007, I made a few changes, to share it with you now…. have fun, let your imagination flow.

How eerie the night

when everyone looks for a fright

carved pumpkin heads

leer with evil delight

their eyes bleary and red

their lopsided grin

sends a chill from within

children cheer with delight

when ghosts go bump in the night

So tuck yourself in

don’t let the news of the day,

scare your good sense away.

Once upon a time, October came once a year

Now it seems, every day is one the speaks of fear.

Really, let’s think on this, do we want to live this way

I pray each day, that our friendships

will flow and grow

till each and every one of us

in reaching out, will overtake

the negativity spread by “others”

and put pumpkins back on the table

in tasty pies that we will gladly share

with everyone, for they will be filled with

thanksgiving, love. friendship and appreciation,

stock ingredients of our every day.

there are times

we can be anything we want to be

October is the month to play

to dabble

in a witches brew

We have all passed old abandoned buildings such as this one. Even in residentail areas now, you can often find a home that just no one seems to want to live in. There is a feeling that hangs around the place, making it very uninviting. A recent experience had me visiting a well known teaching hospital. From the outside it looks big, modern, and for an institution, one could even push the envelope a little and say … it was welcoming in a cold clinical kind of way. It seems these days that there is always constrution going on .. trying to make room for the many patients needing beds or care, either In-patient, or out-patient.

This picture was found on the businessinsider.com Picture was taken by photographer Christopher Payne when he visited North Brother Island a 13 acres island between the Bronx and Ricker’s Island, the building was abandoned in 1963. It had once provided housing for World War II veterans previously it had been a hospital for those quarantined with contagious diseases…When he visited Payne had hoped to find buildings completely intact what he found was ruins. He told Business Insider “It looked like it had been abandoned for a century”

Has the world changed .. have you been in a hospital room lately. We don’t often think of hospitals until we end up in one. Trust me, you should be thinking about your life, your health, and how you want to stay healthy and out of a hospital. you can go in not feeling too well, and come out even sicker

In every city, small town, even a village, there is a park. A place to get out and enjoy nature. At this time of year, if you live in parts of the world where the fall season is a riot of colour, one of the best medicines, for feeling good, is to get out and enjoy a day in the country, or walking a park trail Wake up to the natural wonders we are surrounded by.

NY city .. a city known for its concrete and high density population, yet, it still makes room for places like this. quiet spots where you can escape daily pressures of life. Such places are everywhere, even our own backyards. The trick is to take the time, to enjoy them. You owe it to yourself, and your loved ones, to stay grounded in nature, to be alive with the joys of life, spurring you on….October is when Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving. Give appreciation for the bounty of goodness in your life….Believe that abundance is yours. Wake up to possibilities of a healthy life. Make this Thanksgiving, the first one of many.

Happy Monday the 30th. September

Well dear reader, today is the day, tomorrow will be October 1. October is the first day of a month of bewitching crafts,art pieces,ATCs,fun with my paper and embellishment supplies, all month I get to play. Of course it wasn’t always this way, at one time I had a 9-5 commitment that took time away from doing fun things,like draw witches and goblins, graveyards and bats, decorate envelopes before sending out a greeting to a fellow artist and friend.
We are never too old to express ourselves with markers and stickers. Wish we had dollar stores in the bygone years.

PL Precept #1…Life is Art

If you are an artist, or craft person, writer,architect,parent,cook, housekeeper, it doesn’t really matter what we do that fills our world with “fun”, we find a way to get what we want to do done.

In life,in all situations, I try to apply the same attention and attitude to all challenges and detours I find in my path.

When the enthusiasm is there even if not a “perfect: day, it is a “worthwhile” day, I live and learn. we are asked to Listen with our hearts and minds to those around us, to give them our full attention. I’ve had to learn to do that for myself as well.

Some days I just have to retreat, and have a “me” day. What was the expression used at work,”a wellness day”. The fall for me is a time to come alive, I know to many it is spring that does it for them, me… give me a fall day anytime.

Fall is when we get to do fun things for the N. American Halloween, and the start of the gift making for the holidays.
The Canadian Thanksgiving and the American one are on different days. And of course in PL we celebrate EVERY MONTH!

Enjoy today everyone, do something special for yourself or a loved one. Think ahead to the delightful crisp fresh rejuvenating days of October. Don’t groan, as they say in the egg business, Get Cracking!
