Sludge

sludge-2

Take a discarded children’s book, or any other book you have or find, and turn it into a working surface to paint, or create a new image on.

sludge-3

As an artist or crafts person, we are often looking for a place to try out different ideas, I first say pages being reconstructed when I saw a junk journal being made.  In the video the artist was taking old flyers and other junk mail and repurposing it into a journal, where she then proceeded to embellish it so that it could be used for  journaling, art ideas, thoughts, project possibilities… every scrap of paper, cardstock was recycled into a work of “personal” art.

The idea of recycling books no longer wanted or enjoyed as they were, struck me as a good one, especially I had books and magazines everywhere that I could use to jump start my imagination.

I found this product, Sludge by Tri Art on the shelves of the local DeSerres Art Supply shop.  Gesso was more expensive,  and the colour selections I had with the Sludge offered a challenge that I wanted to take.  Where at one time I had a brush or palette knife attached to the end of my arms at all time, it has not been the case for many many years.    Now when I enter an Art Supply place.. it is a brand new experience.

In PL, Perfect Liberty, we believe that everyday is a brand new experience.  To an artist of life, it presents us with a brand new canvas.  It is up to us, to be as creative as we can be, to find happiness, and share that happiness with others.

On their label it says.. “be a sludge head” enjoy the satisfaction of helping the environment You can find out more by visiting their website.. http://www.tri-art.ca

quiet beckoning

ompah-hwy-7Ompah is in Ontario, a little out-of-the-way, but not so far one can’t get to it.  The seasons change, right now I’m sure it doesn’t look like this.  It will be snow-covered, and likely there will be a chill in the air.

My body has a cold right now.  Notice I’ve disengaged myself from the body that is wanting to sneeze, wheeze and be a total drain on my energy.

I envision this wonderful location, patiently waiting for the cold to have its day and disappear.

Such is life, sometimes, Nature has its own agenda, time for me to settle down, find a cave and  hibernate for a while. =^_^=

I’ll do that after Hubby takes me out for our anniversary dinner…..International Buffet.. yum.. what is it, you feed a cold or starve a cold??   later, I’ll dwell on it later… =^_^=

naughty or nice

there-be-dragons_006

Have you been naughty, have you been nice, hear that a lot around this time of year.  It is all about perspective isn’t it. When someone is being naughty in someone’s view, he/she could be being very nice and totally appreciated by someone else. Perspective.

We are all so different, so unique in our own ways.  That is a gift from above.  The ability to be different, so that each and every one of us is blessed in an ability to enjoy and appreciate the creative expressions of others.

Thursday Doors 11.17th

BerryHolm Poultry Farm started out as a small local business, and grew into one of Eastern Ontario’s top Independent egg producers, when at the time, young David Berry bought the business from his father, and renamed it Berry’s Egg Farm.

The man, David Berry passed away (90) in 2010, he was known for his kind heart, being gentle, loving and patient, It is said that he had the gift of making anyone he met feel valued. His legacy of strong values and principles were the core values he undertook in all he did throughout his life.

When I read his obit, I thought, what a wonderful man I would have liked to have met him. As a writer, we get to write and say a lot about the world around us.  We meet a lot of people along the way and some we don’t actually meet, but their lives cross ours in a different way.  Mr. Berry’s world crossed mine when I was drawn to the above building, and was drawn to capture it with my lens.

“His wit and humour endeared him to all who met him” Ottawa Citizen, April 19,2010

How will you be remembered?  I tell myself, I will be gone, I won’t know, so does it matter?

Will I be like the building, left standing, my past speaking volumes, while “I” (ego) am silent.

Picadilly Theatre

Taken from Wikipedia.. cut and paste

Theatre or theater[1] is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers, typically actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance. Elements of art, such as painted scenery and stagecraft such as lighting are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience.[2] The specific place of the performance is also named by the word “theatre” as derived from the Ancient Greek θέατρον (théatron, “a place for viewing”), itself from θεάομαι (theáomai, “to see”, “to watch”, “to observe”).

p1000564

The pictures themselves are part  of my collection of places that speak to me.  We have driven by when the doors have been open to air the place.  But, I have not been inside.

p1000565

It sits on a main street, there are houses close by, where people still live.  When I stopped to take the pictures, a walker  walked past, and greetings were shared. There was no concern or interest in my standing there, taking pictures.  Just another “tourist’ taking in the sights.

I have spoken to the lady who owns the building, she operates a small antique and knick knack shop near by.  In her plans, somewhere  down the road, she would like to fix it up and do something with it.  Meanwhile it sits.

Sometimes I feel like my body and mind are like the building.  I am here, I function, just don’t know how brilliantly I’m handling the day.

Today, I was searching through the “arts and crafts” section in a chain Thrift Shop (it is for profit, and gives a big percentage to the Diabetes agency in our area)  I came away with some great finds.. Things that  had I gone to the local “big store” Craft, hobby, or Stationary shops for, would have cost me 3 – 4 times more

It works for me, because over the years, I have worked with these products and purchased them at full price for “work” in a Corporate or Health Care Setting. People pass them on because something newer has come along, name has been changed, and it has a fancier package, and important here… it is marketed to the consumer by Crafting, and Hobby specialists  via You Tube or the company’s own website.

250 envelopes at 2.99 less 30% discount, is more appealing to me, than a box of 100 for 15$ plus taxes.  The drafting paper I got, 18 sheets for 2.99 less 30%  works for me, does the same job as the pad of specialty paper for 24$, and a real find was photo paper, gloss a package of 50 for 50 cents… versus 1 sheet for  89 cents

The relic that I am, had a darn good day.  I am excited about trying my goodies out, just as a theater goer is primed and eager to see a new movie or play. The Picadilly theater still stands,  the  sign above the door, still sits proudly announcing the function of the building. Every time I go by, I will wave, and wish it continued success  that it will go on  standing proud, no matter how the years fade and wear its facade down.

Respect and Acceptance

Mural on the side of an old building as you drive through a little town on old Hwy 31.

P1000561.JPG

The building is empty, there is a rental sign on the window off the front entrance. Where it had been a thriving community at one time, it is now a delightful little piece of history, as cars whiz by towards their destination further along the highway.

What seems so important today, can be a faint memory in the years to come.  We live in a world today, that has so much to offer, we intermingle with so many cultures, it is a time to prosper and learn from one another.

It is my prayer that we will not squander away, what so many have worked so hard for, fought for, and died for……

Chev Truck -favourite finds & people

birthday-grillWhat is this?

It is a gift from my son,& his bf & partner, wonderful Brig,  who is patiently holding it so I can see it.  The question was did I want it all.  Hmmm tough decision.  In the end I went with the fender and logo.  I would have loved the whole truck grill, BUT I did have to be somewhat realistic.  I don’t live on land with lots and lots of room, we are on a city lot, walking distance from the city’s core.  It now sits in the living room where I can see it every day.

PL Principle # 3   have a mind of appreciation towards others and things.

I am grateful that my son and his Brig are so thoughtful, they are such blessings in my life.  I appreciate that he spared me going out to the metal yards to round this up for myself.   I was planning on have a go at going there with the tools to harvest whatever I could find.  But lovely Brig and he went out on their own, and found it for me. =^_^=

prince-edward-2011-sand-banksA day of adventure, at Ontario’s Sand Banks.  It was on the cool side, the summer tourist and cottage season over, the beach was a paradise of sand and surf.

prince-edward-sand-banks-2011There is something hauntingly beautiful about spending time on a beach that at times is so crowded with human energy, that it is buzzing…  and finding it quiet and peaceful.  The land simply “BEING”.

prince-edward-sandbanksWe will be heading out at the end of this week, to go where-ever the road leads.  I love my memories of a time that was, but I am keen to discover, the world that will unfold as we take roads less traveled in our quest for new places to appreciate and enjoy

cement – rock -concrete

When we had our new fence put in, we had to remove a cement/rock border along part of the driveway.

img_1927

I see the pieces every time i come down the driveway, and for some reason, I am not wanting to just “get rid of them”.. they stand there like our own version of Easter Island “statues”.. waiting… watching.. standing guard

img_1928

There are still pieces like this along the front edge of the property.  They  have been there for years, and are very much part of the landscape.  the  iron fence seems to be very much in harmony with them.           They just “are”

img_1931

You can just barely see the top of one if you look along towards the fence.  Not wanting to disturb the blue spruce the rest of the edging will stay where it is.

Tea on the Market

p1000307

Looking for a place that is welcoming and well stocked with tea.. You have come to the right place if you have discovered the TeaStore@ 53 York Street in the Byward market right in the heart of the city, minutes away from Parliament Hill, and the Rideau Shopping Center.  These two ladies are regulars, they bike down on week-ends to enjoy a visit and their favourite tea and baked goodie.  During the summer they are able to add the delicious fresh fruit that is abundant in the market stalls nearby.  In winter they soak up the warmth inside of the shop, where they get to sit in a sunny area, either at tables or if lucky to get it the small red sofa.  Cosy as all get out..!

p1000301

The shop is now owned by Joshua Savoie, who obviously has done a great job in maintaining the welcoming ambiance of the shop, he is gaining new “regulars” week-days and week-ends. The young hostess that was there when I visited Saturday was very knowledgeable about the teas, and products sold in the shop.  Had I had more time, I would have welcomed a lazy visit watching the activities from outside at one of the tables or inside at the big bright window.  Perched at the window table =^_^=

p1000305

Ahhhh and what was I doing there… this charming shop, *teastore* has started to sell the cards I make for the Perfect Liberty, Funky Monkey Boutique.  As you know the FMB has a sale only 2, 3 times a year,  The cards are available all year, however we are at 1010 Hunt Club (near Airport Parkway)… so that is going west on Hunt Club if you are at Bank, you turn right to go towards Airport Parkway, Riverside etc.

Remember that October 15th. we are having our fall, Funky Monkey Boutique sale, 9 a.m. 1 pm.  After that it will be after church on the 21st. and by appointment. We have a lot of Diva jewelry, brand name purses, Xmas village what nots, funky bits and pieces for your Halloween outfits….some crafty items.  I will have a few of the scrapbooking/card making extras there, you never know what you will find.

Don’t be disappointed, come early, there is only so much room in the FMB.  What is that expression “the early bird gets the worm”…

p1000302

Look at all the teas, this is just a portion of the tea being offered at the * teastore*, you can follow them on facebook and twitter, their web address is   http://www.teastore.ca

Everyone loves a good cuppa tea, there is so much to explore and see on the market. and the new updated Rideau Center..  Shake the shoppers and the big price tags, wander over to the  * teastore * 53 York Street, (next door to Lapointe’s)  enjoy the brew and the view.

Everyday is a new beginning
