life = art

wall art, hung 3.27.17

Art is subjective.  Art takes on many forms and is never really something that people will  agree on.  Style, techniques, presentation, so many many varieties and opinions.

As an “artist” I begin with an empty canvas or sometimes with one I’ve seen at a thrift and want to repurpose.  It is amazing how effective gesso is at wiping out what was previously on the canvas.  In this case I covered up a rather mundane picture of leaves and shrubs with black gesso (Demco) used for oil and acrylic.

This little character started out full-bodied, but somehow, he didn’t like what was happening, and as other artists will tell you.. it wasn’t long before, he took on a life of his own. Happens when writing too.  The story line you have had in your head for days, starts to take shape on the screen, your fingers are typing away, your mind is playing out the scene…  it is all so smooth, so “happening”.. till you stop and take a breather…. you see the plot has taken turns, even you didn’t expect.

Is it “intuition” what happens when we are creative, when we try to reproduce the ideas in our mind to paper, canvas or other form of expression.  How often do we hear the expression.. “life happens”  or “sh#t happens”  Sometimes it is super cool, great, awesome even, and other times, it is a lot of , darn, cripes, and %@%# !  Whatever, there is always a consequence  to our actions.

IN PL we learn … that every day is a new beginning.  We learn to be creative with any and all challenges /opportunities that come our way.  Most importantly to appreciate the lessons, and outcomes of the day.

There is always a way, always someone who will help guide you to find the “way”

paint time

P1000646

Good day everyone….

No two artists when looking at a blank canvas see the same thing.  Two photographers looking in the same area, along the same street, will each have a different “capture” in their lens.  Ever heard these words.. ” you were there, didn’t you see bla bla bla”   Well, you both might have been there at the same time, but you both very likely didn’t see the same things.  Each would have viewed the scene or circumstances from his/her own perspective.

Now the word “artist” what does it imply?   Or the word “crafter”  are they one and the same… hmmmm. you thinking about it?

Does it come down to how quickly you want your pant to dry?  No two mediums dry the same way ,even when choosing an ink pad, you have to know what you want to do with the ink you are using.. if you use the wrong kind, your inks can bleed or run… even when you thought it was dry… kinky right..

P1000647

That is why I love life and all the artist challenges it provides.  When I make the wrong choice, .. I get to start over or try to work with the results of my 1st choice. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it just doesn’t.  A friend draws in chalk, she lives the moment, when it is gone, she has lived the experience,  and moves on.. that is a beautiful way to let go.

I loved the play of shadows and light on the bramble above.  It struck me at that moment that it was full of intrigue. Today should I see it again, I might not give it a second glance. It would simply be a mass of twigs and branches waiting for spring  and rejuvenation.

La vie est belle, it is our perception that can cloud or colour our view.

I prefer arylic and water colours to oil… why…. paint time… =^_^=

I wish, =^_^= but I was the one to make a new trail

down an unused road, that led me to another time

a family home, once filled with laughter

now stands silent, waiting

this was not the structure tho’ that had caught my attention

rather I was drawn to a building that called out

to my searching ” eyes”

P1000641

“look, look, see my charm”, I got a picture in full sunlight

but this one with the little building half in the shade

I found had more to say

I sensed this is where the children played

on rainy days, on sunny days

this little structure captured and ignited

their imagination in every way

Why not…

funny

Happy Saturday everyone… A dog whose name I have long forgotten looked out at me over the silly sunglasses someone put on him…Maybe his name was Teddy.   Dogs are so patient with us.  They have no idea why we dress, pamper and  spoil them, but they graciously allow us our fun.

I know my girl, she was not amused. But… she was a good sport =^_^= long enough for me to get a picture.

Believe it or not.. when I did these characters.. I thought they were so cute.  Now I can’t even tell you where they are.  OR why I was making them.  That was then, this is NOW.

All this to say.  Life is what it is.  Every day brings new ideas, and opportunities to be creative.  Sometimes they involve others, sometimes you are on your own.

being true

skyline-march-2-17

Being true to one’s self – and trying to fit in to what the traditions and customs of others might be, can be a challenge.  A simple conversation between son and parent can be very enlightening.  Whether we are aware of it or not, what we say, how we say it can impact on someone else, and we may never know just how that conversation will play out over the years.  It is when one day you are chatting and the off spring says something, that resonates with you.  You react to the statement, and of course, the two of you are sympatico, you agree on the pronouncement… however, the delivery of same is coming back at you or to you in a manner that is not what you would have thought the way it could have been expressed. (“my” reaction)

Honesty IS very important, and expressing One’s true feelings and thoughts IS what is taught, but some how another important ingredient has to come into the mix. Awareness of the feelings of others, and that not everyone deals with life the way we do.

A dear friend that I share the “passion” for creativity with saw my  picture (shown above) I don’t usually name my expressions, because I find that when I do, it confines it to MY thoughts at the moment.. and limits its potential.  I could pick it up and work on it again, altho’ I seldom do that.. except I am learning.. this technique, requires working in stages because I prefer to let the medium dry on its own.  I digress.. this is not a how to on painting, when “possum” saw it, she came back with…  is this about the 7 new planets that have been discovered….   totally foreign to me, never crossed my mind, but her words, were like WOW..    oh I like… she gave me a totally different perspective with her simple “reaction” to my post to her.

All of a sudden, my expression took on new life for me.. and now when I look at it, I wonder where it came from… who did that, and what were they thinking when they did it..

A gift we all have, is the ability to communicate with others… how we interact, and how we accept, retain, and use the constant flow of information and ideas… is a wonderful, complex and amazing part of life.

We are each and every one of us, unique in our own way, appreciate and learn from the information that comes our way, and always, do your best to maintain a positive outlook.

Life is beautiful, and so are YOU.

Wordless Wednesday, March 1

silent voice

lemur-begining-of

Sometimes when I’m driving, I get half formed thoughts, inkling of ideas, nothing really pithy, just thoughts drifting in and out as I wind my way through the traffic along the highways and side roads.

Sometimes there is a particular sentence or catch phrase that will stick with me, today it was “silent voice’  I was coming home from church, its been a busy week with my Mom having to be moved to long term care, (all this in a very short period of time)  So I’ve not had the quiet times I usually have on a daily basis to regroup.

If I try to focus on one particular task, I get restless, and I need to find a way to slow down, “chill” as we used to say.  I was cleaning out a box, sorting the contents to get it ready to recycle, when I found an inexpensive canvas I got somewhere, with some kind of print all over it.

Without really thinking about it, I got out some of the old paints that were in the box, and threw some on the canvas .. using the brayer, which of course, didn’t work well, the canvas was not well-stretched over the frame.  The paints were a lime green and a fuchsia type pink, old enough that they were not well blended.. but I didn’t seem to care, I just persisted with the brayer till I covered the canvas.

You can see, I then began to wipe some of it off using an old brush that had a dry tip… somehow the silent voice saw a pair of eyes .. and that is what I tried to find.  when the voice stopped. I stopped.  that is the way it works for me.  I feel much better.. my Lemur called so, because that is kind of what it reminds me of, is sitting there, content to watch me as I type.

Life is what it is, isn’t it.  We all have a silent voice, we just don’t always hear or listen to it.  I’ll see what I think when I wake and visit with him tomorrow.  Yes, I feel it is a “him” or would that be hymn  =^_^=

simplicity – white

As we drove along, the winding road seemed to disappear into a wall of fog.  There was a surreal atmosphere of quiet that wrapped itself around the truck.  We paused in our conversation to take notice of our surroundings.

Suddenly ahead we saw flashing lights.  2 men were standing by a truck, the drivers side door was open.  One man wore a bright yellow vest with a big fluorescent red X emblazoned on his back.  As we watched, he helped the other man put ona imiliar vest..  Ahead of the stopped truck was a big lit up panel blocking the way,  It too sported a big red X.

Slowing down, my husband rolled down his window… the one man who was already dressed in the special outfit, walked over to the truck, asking us where we were headed. When told where we were headed, he said, that we could go no further on the road we were on, but needed to take a detour that would be identified  when we turned the truck around.

My husband ever the news-hound, asked for information, and surprisingly we were told that there was a man with a weapon barricaded up ahead, and the whole area was cordoned off…  As we made our way to the detour, we thought about what we had been told.   Here we were out for a leisurely drive, content in our “world” and minutes away, was a very serious scene being played out.  Children were involved, the “suspect” was holed up in an area very close to a school.

This is very serious, we knew it was happening, but there was nothing we could do but proceed with our own “day” and let the “drama” play out as it may.  This was early afternoon, we later heard on the news, that the incident ended shortly after 5, no one was injured.  Maybe not physically, but what kind of “mental” stress was placed on the people who were involved in the incident.

On our way back, the fog had lifted, and the sun was shining.  It brought home for me, how important it is to live each moment with appreciation.  We never know what is around the corner.

NB* we had a wonderful drive, the detour proved to be a meandering back road that was delightful. WE did get to Montebello, my sister, was able to tick the destination off of her to see list. In life, there is always BALANCE . and as noted, by the time we were heading back, the sun was shining and skies were blue.
