timing

Every day there is new growth…

The heat is really hurrying the seasons. The magnolia which is now in full bloom, is also totally wilting and drooping, petals dropping… … the buds came out and …. the heat so intense …. they seemed to just burst out, then as if all the energy was drained out of them, they began in earnest to reach out, exhausted themselves and are now all over the ground.

this is not the first time, the blooming season has been so short.

Many of you are seasoned gardeners, what has your experience been with the magnolia trees, are they all so short (the flowers) lived.?? When the tree was younger, I seem to recall stronger blooms, that would stay around for weeks.??

Think of the timing before you say “but…” When stating your opinion, make sure you are being resepctfuly of others’ opinions. Be mindful of this when you speak.

morning missive from Japan. –

Re- mosquitos .. started noticing them the other day. It wasn’t too bad, the odd bit of buzzing, but yesterday they were bolder, I suspect with each passing day they will get more persistent. Time to find another way to get my walking in. Something to ponder on. for sure.. long sleeves, neautral colours.. note to self, they bite through some clothing, somehow they even manage to get into your hair and will find any open areas to get at your skin. I am not exaggerating their zeal.

Have a grand day everyone, we have been experiencing weather in the 80’s here. day after day, we are not in the summer season yet. Forecast is for sunny skies and a lot of record breaking heat.

lying in the sun

I admit to being a lazy one today. I got to the beaver pond, and decided to sit down for awhile and wait to see if the beaver(s)would come out. The sun was warm, there was no one around, the wooden planks were so inviting, I took off my padded vest folded it to make a headrest.. and… yup. I lay down right there. Stayed over to the side of the boardwalk so others could get by.. but made myself comfortable, stretched out.. and just let the sun work its magic.

The quiet of the day was soothing. Birds calling, even saw my first butterfly of the season, Today in PL, we celebrated the Day of Peace. Welcome a new month.

Every day is a new beginning. PL Precept # 18 Each moment is a turning Point.

winter white

Snow has melted, leaving the trees waiting patiently for the sun to warm the ground around them, and to release the awakening sap so that their new buds will begin to appear. Perhaps not as awe inspiring as the fall when they are wearing their autumn colours, but it is peaceful, quiet and there is an anticipation in the air. See the sign, I first showed it to you a couple of years back. By the end of this growing season, it will be interesting to see how much more it will be hidden by the growth around it.

Yesterday I was with someone who knew… what a Wow moment.

Being…

Unexpected upside of having something happen you didn’t expect. There is always another way of seeing something, or experiencing an event that effectively changes something inside of us. At the time we may not link it to anything in particular, it is when we are least expecting it.. that the “light” will go on, and we will wonder.. how? where? what happened??

For me, nature promotes calm and well being. I can simply get out of my car and stand still (when in the woodlands) . if I’m lucky to have the area to myself, once the birds realize that I’m not going to do anything but enjoy being there with them, the cacophony of sounds begins… the cadence and rhythm of the songs/cries changes as the community regroups and begin going about their daily business,

Make today a memorable day. Let’s try to put our whole heart into whatever we say or do, as our unique signature.

The other morning, I was greeted with a peaceful quiet . as I drank it all in…. off in the deep distance, over the tree tops and through the many layers of tree trunk and branches came the distinct sound of an owl calling/speaking….. Till that moment I had never heard an owl, I was awed.

How many times have I gotten up, read the lesson of the day, taken it in and moved on with my day… its not till later in the day that the morning lesson steeps in, and I have a light bulb moment. So often in these times, we are multi-tasking, running from one ‘thing to do” to another… let’s remember to take that moment in the day to reflect on “are you being kind to yourself!!”

A community that prays together, stands together… Yesterday one of our young members had a very “bad” day. We are all praying that he will have a speedy recovery and that his family and friends feel the power of our prayers.. A heartfelt thank you to everyone yesterday for rallying around at a time when we needed to join in prayer. I will be in touch later with updates. In faith we stand….in prayer we are ONE.

Start today with a fresh outlook. Even though people and situations may look the same, they are constantly changing. Start each day with a fresh mind.

a silent prayer

This female Grosbeak is the only one I have personally seen this winter. Last winter we had so many of her “family /relatives” it was an amazing winter to spend time with them and watch their antics. This year she has been on her own. Thank you Daniel for this wonderful picture of her. Your patience was rewarded, and I’m delighted to be able to show her off to our readers.

His top picture was one I copied (with his permission) some time ago, I was having a difficult time with “grief” and a bit of “loneliness”.. This winter for some reason, even tho’ it will going on 4 years this spring, since my husband passed – I have had a few bouts of what I call “tortured anguish”. I found Dan’s picture (the top one) made me feel “peaceful” it helped me to touch deep within me.. I allowed my mind to focus on the softness and the gentle spirit that he captured when he took the photo.

I’ve seen him standing stock still in minus degree temperatures.. for long stretches at a time, he actually seems to become part of the landscape.. I’d come up to my feeders and not even realize that he was there, he would be so quiet and still. In meditation and prayer I have been known to sit in stillness lost in the moment of NOW. I’ve meditated/prayed in Grand Central Station, it is a quiet that takes time to master, but once we find that “state of Being” it is one we cherish. However we all know, it isn’t always easy to “BE” we can’t just flick a switch and we’re there.

You can be with God by having a prayerful mind. Let’s pray for World Peace. We are all one big family. Let’s start by praying for the happiness of those around us.
