Imagine the sun streaming in on a cool fall day.  Isn’t there something wonderful about the way, light is transformed when it penetrates and shines through  a stained glass panel.

retreat-10-7-17f.jpg

even the high ceiling is mirroring the colourful hues, giving the  room an aura of light.  When the organist plays, what divine inspiration must flow from his hands to the organ itself.  A true delight for all who are embraced by the sound,

retreat snowberries 2

On a retreat this past week-end, my sister thought to share some pictures with me.  In one of them, I was very taken by these big white berries.  They are so plump and lush. She is in California, so her countryside where she was visiting was very different from what I have now here in the Ottawa area,

retreat snowberries 3

I thought at first to crop out the shadows, but then I realized that it lent a very human element to the picture.  the retreat took place on a large acreage owned by the diocese of the church she belongs to.  Her church and another one were holding their annual fall retreat. Before the heat of the day set  in, her group, were walking some of the pathways, exploring.

The picture isn’t perfect the wildflowers look a tad blurred, but I think the reason I liked it s much was that it was being shared with me, and it had been part of her journey that day. So often in life, we want everything to be perfect, I am guilty of cropping, removing, using photo shop at times to get what I call an artist visual of whatever it is I want to express.  My sister, was taking a picture simply to share her happy moment, the joy we all feel when we are outdoors on a sunny day, being warmed by the sun, perhaps a gentle breeze and fellowship.

Realizing that the  sharing of a special moment was more important and let’s face it precious, than a perfect picture.  Appreciation of all that comes our way, is a gift.  I like many others have to practice every day, giving thanks, and being grateful for all life has to offer. ALL, not just what I pick and choose . When we learn appreciation, only then can we truly be of service to others.

Look at the view ,for as far as they eye can see .  No highrise to block our view,, no constant roar of traffic.  Just open land.  I wasn’t there at the time she was, but I am sure enjoying it now.

It is Canadian Thanksgiving today, but appreciation and knowing how blessed we are, is something to give thanks for every day.

There is no such thing as true perfection, but happiness, and Love/GOD are very real…

Wishing

violet 10.17

Wishing I could reach out and comfort you,

I saw your tears begin to flow

you tried hard to be composed

but the sadness in your heart, needed to let go

You looked out with eyes, that brimmed with pain

your tender heart was bruised and weary

so many senseless deaths, how much more

could you be expected to endure.

Life is not always easy, rainbows appear only after the rain

it isn’t always easy to understand

why there are times., when God calls home the chosen ones

and how it happens, isn’t always  or easy to comprehend

each flower has its time in the sun, then it fades away

and is gone, life simply flows along,

I reached out to wipe your tears

of course you were miles away, yet I know you felt the love

of all who shared your pain that day.

Everything we say and do, is for  reason

sometimes we know right away, and other times

the light bulb comes on when we least expect it to.

Know that always,  LOVE will be there for you

journals are merely earthly tools to help us

mirror what is in our hearts

I send this wish out to you tonight

may the blessings of the moon and stars

bring sweet dreams to you this night

so that tomorrow, all will be sunny and bright.

Q

a prayer for you my friend.

Colour riot Saturday

October abstract 5

If you haven’t guessed already, I love October, and the energy that seems to gather and explode in the shops around this time of year. I can’t at this moment in time, over haul our living quarters into a stage set, but I can dream about it. So, some of my time today was wandering the shops and taking pictures of items I’d want to collect and bring home, if this was the right time for me to do so.

October 2

How fun to have this at the back door to greet unsuspecting visitors.

October 3

Could it be the colours, the designs, or just the witching fun.

october 6a

Back when I was  really keen on redoing the “home” with such colourful and creative items, we had to make them ourselves.  Now, they are all over in the shops and so available.  I love the black, the way it sets off the bright yellows and glowing oranges.

IMG_4020

I have been feeling more creative these days, the top picture is my bedtime activity, some people write in journals, I like to paint.  I have art journals, and junk journals, they are everywhere, so when I feel an urge, I can just pick one up and add to it.  Even the act of preparing a page so that it will take paint, or other medium is joyful.

Ripping up a magazine for the splotches of colour that have caught my eye is very relaxing…. then to see it reborn in a totally “MY ” way  is absolutely satisfying.  Same applies to fabric, wool, threads, cord, ribbon, tapes, the possibilities are endless.

The best part of visual expression, is that it is very personal, subjective, and really only needs to be enjoyed by me, myself and I.  If someone else likes it, that is bonus.

Life is what we make it.  There is an artist in all of us. We all choose to express ourselves differently. What is important is that we do so.

When a challenge looms before us.  How we deal with it, shows are creativity.  We are offered so many possibilities during the day, I am always amazed that not every one gets the  feeling of satisfaction at having a full day.

If you are in Canada, you are well on your way to enjoying a long week-end.  I am looking forward to mine.  It is a daunting task, but I am going to try to rearrange my studio/work area.

PL Precept # 18  Each moment is a turning point.

PL Precept # 19  Begin Once you Perceive

Happy, wonderful and productive Saturday !!  Let the colours shine.

be thankful

This little flag was brought back a year ago, it was to fly happily at the church reminding one and all, that we should be thankful at all times.  Somehow, it just never got put up, and it was  only discovered recently again, when I picked up several boxes of goodies I had to be recycled to the House of Lazarus, Community Outreach Mission, in Mountain, Ontario. *

Seeing it again, was uplifting and reminded me that I do have so much to be thankful for.  I kept it, and it hangs where I can see it everyday.  Actually it sits where both my husband and I can see it and rejoice at the blessing we have been given.  An illness is an opportunity to revisit  the purpose of life, and why we are here.

A reminder not to squander your days and nights doing things you don’t enjoy, or with people who are possibly toxic in your world.  Rather than peace, love and caring, they can only offer, negatives.  They project hate, greed and selfishness.

This is the Canadian Thanksgiving week-end.  Families will gather, with friends and family to share the bounty in their lives.

Be sincere, be honest love with an open heart.

Wednesday 10.04.17

Good morning everyone, my thoughts are still lingering on the country roads.  What is your feeling when you have wonderful opportunities to enjoy land that isn’t really cultivated and reconfigured by developers.  We are denied access for our own safety, which in most cases, intellectually I understand.

stagecoach road 10.3. x

I know that to many a well manicured lot is their goal. They work and slave to get it just right, to have each blade of equal height, and even cut in the same direction.  Myself I am drawn to the wild grass, full of colourful leaves and textures from odd ball ” weeds”

Even today the age-old controversy on weeds and their benefits to society continues.  Many cultures use plants that we call weeds, either in their culinary dishes, or as herbal remedies .. and and and.  Still we spend millions of dollars on synthetic medicine, a lot of it that fails and is not successful. (we don’t get to hear about that too much)  While what nature supplies us with, we question, and bicker over.  In all life there is purpose.  We need only look, or seek to see.

As humans, we seem to think that we are equal or better than Nature,  Nature provided us with clean pure air, and what have we done to it over time.

I am rambling, it is October, I have gotten out my broom, and will start to polish the handle, it is well worn, but still useable.  I certainly don’t sweep with it.  Good heavens! brooms are for riding!!!

I obviously want to trespass, where for my own safety,  I am to stay out. Norm, Cindy,  Alex, someone please lend me a telephoto lense.  Just kidding, I’ll be good, I know come Hallows Eve, I can wander, unseen, through the night  %^&* wrings knarled hands  long pointed nails painted inky black, with gleeful dielight,  and with a devilish gint in her slanted eyes  she hits – post- chuckling all the way…….

October 3 – changes

dark forest waer on acrylicAfter the events of the last couple of days, weeks, I welcome October and all its silly fright nights that build up to the end of October.  For weeks now, I’ve seen the fun and silliness that people have and enjoy when they plan their special outfits for the events that lead up to Halloween.  Not just the young, the older shoppers as well.

Stagecoach road 10.3

What IS behind the wall of trees, and mounds of earth.  At this location, as I neared I could hear the rumble of big trucks.

stagecoach road greely on the right of entrance

They were backing up and emptying their load of gravel and sand, the vegetation was so dense, I saw very little, but I did grab a picture on the other side of the roadway.

stagecoach road 10.3.17 2

This with the water is what I see from the road, at the first No Trespassing Pit I come to. It is lovely, but the No Trespassing signs are everywhere.  I took this from the road.  All this to say, that although I started out thinking of ghouls and goblins, and painting spider and furry critters.. the drive out to Mountain, turned my thoughts around.

I am still going to  paint a howling scene and enjoy  the creative rush I get in October, but wanted to share with you, how easy it can be, to go with the flow.  NATURE is so good at drawing us in, and helping us to expand our horizons.  Help us turn a page.

Mid week everyone.  Make every day count.  Enjoy whatever comes your way, find appreciation in all you do.
