PL Precept # 2 To live is to express one’s self

I found this delightful animation on a blog I follow, it told a story that I would like to share with you.  I hope you enjoy.

I eat because

p1000543

This house has two doors.  Obviously at one time the upstairs door, either had a balcony, BUT maybe not.  We have come across a lot of places with a secondary door, that at one time was going to be another exit, or a door to a small balcony, when asked, the agent would say, it just never got done.

In newer buildings I have seen doors that open to let in a view, but there is a guard railing (decorative and for security reasons) that bars exit.

I eat because I am hungry.  I eat because I am diabetic and need to eat at regular intervals, I eat because as a diabetic, there are times, I need to adjust my sugar levels, that are perhaps giving or adding to my headache, or malaise

Notice, at no time above did I say I eat because I like to eat.  Sure I enjoy a nice meal from time to time .. especially at a restaurant with a friend while we catch up.  Neither hubby or I are foodies, I realized the other day, neither one of us wills say, let’s go out .. we will and have done it, but it is not on our wish list of things to do.

We each have our likes and preferences on what we like to eat, and how we like it cooked. But, truly it is more of a..” ok have to eat, so let me see what is here…”

One of my important lessons – regarding food. portion control.  ..not what I eat, it is how much I eat.. I can do with a lot less.. and not having to eat out, helps a lot with maintaining smaller portions,

for me, the perfect breakfast. small portion steamed rice, poached egg, and  Japanese or Chinese pickles,   dessert (mid morning taste)  iced coffee, with of ice, black, no sugar, no cream, if anything extra water.

What a great way to start the day.. How about you, how is your day going?

Snow what a  blessing

from above, crystals

with prisms that catch the light

an art form,

that can  dazzle and delight

bear,brown

it is true, we can’t fall asleep

in plain sight,

enjoying the sun the same way

we can in summer

oh, but other delights await us

and the winter fun can begin

the slops are being groomed

snowshoes  are being readied

I can smell the baking pies

and anticipate the wonder

in the children’s eyes

the    happy smiles

when they fly down a hill

all bundled up, on their first toboggan ride

oh dear.. there is always

an old bear, who wants us to know

winter or not

he will have his time in the sun

truth be told

he is right of course,

no matter the season

there is never a  good reason

to get out and enjoy

the day no matter what

Yup.. shopping for supplies I will need for my February, and spring cards.  Time to think ahead.  On my list of places to go was a big art supply store in a major shopping mall.  I did not get there early, so…………. I was there at a time when the parking lot was wall to wall vehicles and shoppers were in possibly every walking space in the halls between the stores.

This is only November.  Imagine in the States where they still have Thanksgiving to go, before they are hit with the Xmas shopping  frenzy.  All around me I heard people talking about their lists, and how far they had gotten, and what was left to look for.

Penguins are big this year. I know the above is a Puffin, he’s a cutie, thought I’d give him some “press” =^_^=   So many of the clothing stores, had some kind of sweater with a penguin on it.  You will get to see a lot of them if you are out looking around.  The other   thing being marketed is the Ugly Sweater… These are new .. is the whole idea of the “ugly sweater” not to come up with a vintage one from days gone by???  Anybody?

IMG_1181

Just so you know, this is what is coming, or so we are being told.  In preparation for such an event, I have begun to stock up, for days of “nesting”  Which brings me back to my card making. =^_^=   How well are you prepared for the next couple of months.  If you are in a climate with 4 seasons, and winter is ahead, do you have your snow tires yet?  Are they on the car/truck?

While I made my way from one shopping location to another, via the highways, (stayed away from the downtown area, Santa was having his parade today) I mumbled to myself that it was time, I took week-ends off from going out and about.  from now on, it will only get busier.

I got a lot done, and best of all, I had a lot of time when waiting at lights, and traffic slow downs to think about how much I will enjoy my extra hours of “nesting” once my chores are done.

BerryHolm Poultry Farm started out as a small local business, and grew into one of Eastern Ontario’s top Independent egg producers, when at the time, young David Berry bought the business from his father, and renamed it Berry’s Egg Farm.

The man, David Berry passed away (90) in 2010, he was known for his kind heart, being gentle, loving and patient, It is said that he had the gift of making anyone he met feel valued. His legacy of strong values and principles were the core values he undertook in all he did throughout his life.

When I read his obit, I thought, what a wonderful man I would have liked to have met him. As a writer, we get to write and say a lot about the world around us.  We meet a lot of people along the way and some we don’t actually meet, but their lives cross ours in a different way.  Mr. Berry’s world crossed mine when I was drawn to the above building, and was drawn to capture it with my lens.

“His wit and humour endeared him to all who met him” Ottawa Citizen, April 19,2010

How will you be remembered?  I tell myself, I will be gone, I won’t know, so does it matter?

Will I be like the building, left standing, my past speaking volumes, while “I” (ego) am silent.

Have  joyous day!

Picadilly Theatre

Taken from Wikipedia.. cut and paste

Theatre or theater[1] is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers, typically actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance. Elements of art, such as painted scenery and stagecraft such as lighting are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience.[2] The specific place of the performance is also named by the word “theatre” as derived from the Ancient Greek θέατρον (théatron, “a place for viewing”), itself from θεάομαι (theáomai, “to see”, “to watch”, “to observe”).

p1000564

The pictures themselves are part  of my collection of places that speak to me.  We have driven by when the doors have been open to air the place.  But, I have not been inside.

p1000565

It sits on a main street, there are houses close by, where people still live.  When I stopped to take the pictures, a walker  walked past, and greetings were shared. There was no concern or interest in my standing there, taking pictures.  Just another “tourist’ taking in the sights.

I have spoken to the lady who owns the building, she operates a small antique and knick knack shop near by.  In her plans, somewhere  down the road, she would like to fix it up and do something with it.  Meanwhile it sits.

Sometimes I feel like my body and mind are like the building.  I am here, I function, just don’t know how brilliantly I’m handling the day.

Today, I was searching through the “arts and crafts” section in a chain Thrift Shop (it is for profit, and gives a big percentage to the Diabetes agency in our area)  I came away with some great finds.. Things that  had I gone to the local “big store” Craft, hobby, or Stationary shops for, would have cost me 3 – 4 times more

It works for me, because over the years, I have worked with these products and purchased them at full price for “work” in a Corporate or Health Care Setting. People pass them on because something newer has come along, name has been changed, and it has a fancier package, and important here… it is marketed to the consumer by Crafting, and Hobby specialists  via You Tube or the company’s own website.

250 envelopes at 2.99 less 30% discount, is more appealing to me, than a box of 100 for 15$ plus taxes.  The drafting paper I got, 18 sheets for 2.99 less 30%  works for me, does the same job as the pad of specialty paper for 24$, and a real find was photo paper, gloss a package of 50 for 50 cents… versus 1 sheet for  89 cents

The relic that I am, had a darn good day.  I am excited about trying my goodies out, just as a theater goer is primed and eager to see a new movie or play. The Picadilly theater still stands,  the  sign above the door, still sits proudly announcing the function of the building. Every time I go by, I will wave, and wish it continued success  that it will go on  standing proud, no matter how the years fade and wear its facade down.

Then a friend sent me this link, after watching… the above moment had passed.

Dancing on Water-Chinese Art of Bamboo drifting

A lifetime can be a minute, depends on your perception.  Today IS another day.  Get out there and enjoy it.

Had we  had the room, I would have liked to have had the rock moved, to come home with us…captured its boldness with the lens instead. When there is a will, there is a way.

Please ..there is special Lady needing our prayers. yesterday she lost a finger,…. a musician, this is a devastating shock to her, her family and friends, need our support. A quiet moment with a simple healing prayer for all who need our strength today, will be greatly appreciated.

Respect and Acceptance

Mural on the side of an old building as you drive through a little town on old Hwy 31.

P1000561.JPG

The building is empty, there is a rental sign on the window off the front entrance. Where it had been a thriving community at one time, it is now a delightful little piece of history, as cars whiz by towards their destination further along the highway.

What seems so important today, can be a faint memory in the years to come.  We live in a world today, that has so much to offer, we intermingle with so many cultures, it is a time to prosper and learn from one another.

It is my prayer that we will not squander away, what so many have worked so hard for, fought for, and died for……

Lesson 13 of the 2016 =PL Calendar…. Each person has their own special qualities.  Each of us is born with a unique personality, and a unique worldview.  Be respectful of others and learn to get along with people of all types.

An open door, is welcoming, come inside and visit.  These doors beckon the visitor to come inside to view the shining old fire trucks. Polished with dedication, they shout out le bienvenue.

I revisited this picture wanted to put it on my screen for a backdrop.  I can’t see how one would open that car door?

In this case, I’ve had a good day, I’ve been creative, and I’ve spent time with friends  I feel grateful, and appreciate that I am so blessed.  If today was a picture it would have been a watercolour of soft harmonizing colours.  Yep, calm, peaceful and beautiful.

Knowing I am very keen on vintage automobiles, a friend from Montreal sent me this photo along with many others.

colouring done by a friend, who shaved card stock to make the fuzzy slippers.

What do these items have in common?  Nothing, except they were all part of my world in some way or another, prior to today.  I introduce them to you, because, even tho’ they are part of the past, they are also part of my present.  Why, they remain connected through “friendships”

Our friends are all different, they are the gemstones in our  treasure chest at the end of the rainbow.  It is not about how often we see them, but how much joy and happiness they bring into our lives by being part of who we are, our memories, our challenges and our futures.

Friendships are unique and beautiful.  I am blessed for having had such beautiful souls thread their lives through mine.
