I spent time with a small fierce falcon yesterday. He/she and I had a staring contest, he could have been as curious as I was. My cell phone capture the bird enough so a friend could identify it. I am using a picture found on the internet.

The Merlin is a small species of falcon from the Northern Hemisphere . Bird of Prey it is fast and goes after song birds and shorebirds. Falco columbarius

Good morning… thank you all for your encouraging words, Quinn and Quincy are getting along very well. They settled in very nicely, he is a gentle “old” soul, watches out for her, and doesn’t let her get away with any of her nonsense. He is a little over 2 years old and she we think is about 10 months old.

Today the 11th we celebrate Ancestors’ Day in the PL community. Through this ceremony we express our gratitude for the love and virtues of our ancestors and ask for their protection and guidance so we can continue to live the PL Way!

If you cannot be with us today at church .. take a moment of silence around 10 a.m. to express your appreciation …give thanks… life is good…

How did you ring in the new year? Was it a big event for you? What does it mean to you? Has it or does it make a big impact on your life? I ask out of curiosity, in my world the moving into a new year, is a very personal and exciting time, not so much because it is a reason to celebrate and party, but because it is a milestone, one I can reflect on, and review all the goodness and positives that have enriched my life. I get to share the solar calendar with friends, and then later, the welcoming of the new lunar year.

When my Dad was alive, he would take me to big events, where there was always a dragon dance, with firecrackers, and the smell of incense filled the air along with the smoke from the fire crackers. We would go down to Chinatown, and he’d hoist me up so I could see the Dragon dancers make their way along the street .. merchants would stand in front of their shops… welcoming the dragon… there would be fresh oranges and rice on the small shop alters.. welcoming the new year spirits …. encouraging the dragon to bestow good fortune on their businesses, and good health and happiness to their families.

When my Dad passed the old traditions died with him… In my maturity, I have kept many of the old ways, the cleaning out of the “old” to make way for the “new”. I begin in late fall, meditating and reviewing what “life” is like for me.. Thinking of how I feel, what is happening with me, physically and intellectually. The biggie is…. is my life filled with contentment, am I happy. I am pleased that for the most part, yes … I am a happy person.. and.. I know contentment. Sure I get upset, and yes I have moments, but they are short lived, because, I like and prefer to be happy. We are all blessed with opportunities in life, I strive for and enjoy, quiet, serene, and tranquility. Simplicity.

We feel a deep sense of joy when we are able to express our true selves. Always focus on your true feelings and express yourself honestly.

Why….

There is something so magical about watching the sun make its appearance . A brand new day. New beginning, a fresh perspective, how wonderful the moment is when you see it between the trees teasing and tempting. There is no way I can ignore the majesty of it all.

There isn’t another car in sight, I slow down, looking for that perfect moment to stop the car… of course when I get out of the car, my view is different, and I have to walk around the car and walk up or back down the road to see if I can catch the glowing ball of fire before it drifts out of my sight.

The birds are quiet today, ok, well not all of them, the nuthatch are not carrying on, but the Jays are being absolutely silly. I’ve spoiled them, usually as soon as I get out of the car, I throw out handfuls of peanuts in a shell. LOL … now they expect it.. The evening grosbeaks are being patient, I can hear one or two of them begin their song. But… I’m still focused on getting a picture… which I did.. and only then did I dutifully go tend my charges.

Get things started with Grit. If you work on things in daily life with the attitude of “let’s do it!” you will feel a power to accomplish things. People around you will rely on you.

I have been tired a lot of late. So much so, it has been a bit of a worry. YET the Vitamines D and B the magnesium and and and.. that were recommended sit on my counter. Not being opened or used. What is it with me (part of me) anyway! What I have been doing, is still cleaning up (per Chinese New Year tradition) and yesterday…. finally…. I took out the “brasso” (cleaner) and cleaned my prayer bowls.

Have you ever found yourself in conversation with a squirrel. How they will look right back at you in pure defiance. There are a couple of the little red ones that are just a little bigger than a minute.. they are loud, noisy, have a lot to say … and are determined that if you want them to go away, they are going to show you, they are going to stay. I recognize that behaviour…. Have been known to display “some” of that annoying stubbornness myself.

Compromise makes things more complicated. if you go against your intuition and compromise because circumstances or conditions, things tend to get more complicated than they need to be. Always focus on the priorities and act accordingly.

Today is also the 21st. which in PL is when we celebrate the most important service of the month. Thanksgiving/Day / aka. Day of appreciation. we offer our appreciation and pray to be physically and spiritually renewed.

Be grateful for everything. express gratitude. Be open to new possibilities. Accept everything with appreciation. Small changes can bring about a fresh outlook

The Lunar new year is a celebration of “family” of “community” we begin weeks before the actual full moon, we clean our homes, (literally/figuratively) our “minds” “hearts”.. we examine, we reflect on the past year, and humbly express our apperception to God/Universe for all the blessings of the past year/month and sincerely ask to be guided and protected by the grace of Oyashikiri in the coming days/weeks/months.

People take time off, business’s close not for the day but often for a week or more so that family members that need to travel, can make their way home for the holiday/celebrations that will take place in their home towns/villages etc.

It is a joyous time, if you are blessed to have community/family to share the time with, all the better, but it is also a time (in my case) for spiritual renewal, and self acceptance/understanding and appreciation …

Please note… Due to the service this evening at the church, there will be no Sunday service tomorrow. Service tonight will be at 7 pm if you can make it.

Where ever you are, whatever you are doing – may the Universe smile down on you and yours now and always bringing much Happiness ……Joy……Prosperity and ….. Good Health.
