Nature has a way of showing its versatility and adaptive ways in the most creative ways. Rain, snow, sleet, ice, searing sun that blisters and burns, winds that tear and break apart, Nothing in life stays the same. The only constant in life is Change.

Applaud the Makoto of others. When you encounter good faith or kindness in others, make sure that you acknowledge it fully. This will make both you and them happy. (Makoto; One’s utmost sincerity)

Today being Thursday, I wanted a door that had history, yet in its simplicity and purpose it deserved recognition. It isn’t big and imposing, but it had a very special and important function. Never judge a book by its cover.

Day of appreciation

There was a time when life was simpler – when all we did was get up and go to bed our days were filled with learning about life, what was, what would be, Dad was the breadwinner the philosopher, photographer, gardner, Mother was the person who grounded our realities, dressed us, prepared our meals and when Dad passed away at a very early age, had to learn about being a single parent and bring up 3 daughters on her own. Humble beginnings… life was .. and will alway be, the moments we live, learn and experience the start of a new day.

Today is Thanksgiving (Day of Appreciation) in Perfect Liberty, but to each and everyone reading this, I ask you to take a moment while you read this, and just remember a happy moment in your past….who was in your life then, where were you, close your eyes just for a second, and smile at the memory, whisper thank you… it is such rewarding moment. Thank you for sharing it with me …

I live everyday with gratitude in my heart. Dad was a believer in family and community, he instilled in me a life long habit of always reaching out with a smile to strangers, I was the eldest and got to go with him almost everywhere .. he didn’t hold to I was not a boy, I was his daughter and he wanted me to grow up being proud of who I was, and to accept that others would find me “different” but that was their loss and not mine if they couldn’t accept that I “looked” different than they did. He taught me to be proud of my heritage, and to love the country I was born in. I am Canadian, born and raised, I love the many blessings I have had, in some cases “earned”…

Today in all PL churches internationally, service will be at 7 pm. whether you are in Japan, Brazil, Europe, USA, or here in Canada, we will gather at 7 pm and offer our gratitude to our ancestors and those who have shared in (been a part of) our lives.

Be grateful for everything. If you see everything as material to express gratitude, you can encounter a number of opportunities you are grateful for.

Good Morning ?Hola!

“Don’t worry, I’ll come to you”, as he/she makes its way towards me, there is a huge puddle (maybe two and a half car lengths and maybe a good 4 -10 inches deep in places) between where I was getting the feed out of the back of my car. I did wade the water and he/she followed me back to the upper area where the other birds were all feeding.. The water could be a problem I heard grumbling that recommendation could be made to shut the parking lot down while it is so “wet”. This morning while it is still on the “cold” side, I’ll brave the darkness and head out soon. The water may still be ice.

BTW, am not a big telly fan, but while I waited last night to meet up with friends, I sat and watched a taped segment of The Masked Singer… I missed the performance but at the unmasking .. I was delighted to see Dick Vandyke, he is 93 now.. wow.. he was still so vibrant and full of energy. His voice was still holding up, he did a few bars of the Mary Poppins song, superfragilistic superallydocious. Inspiration for sure.

We all, no matter our age, have noticed how with each passing year, our bodies show signs of wear and tear. 93 .. yes he looked fragile, but he was never a heavy or big man, he was always tall and lean. Kudos to him for doing such a high energy show and allowing us to enjoy him once more.

That is what life is about isn’t it. Taking each day and doing our best to live it in the most memorable way we can.

Be mindful with Prayer. If you work on things with a prayerful heart, there will be many things you can be taught.

Mastering the moods, the meds, the madness that is day to day living – can it be done – you bet it can! Take time today to S T O P whatever you are doing… and just pause, close your eyes .. take a deep breath and slowly let it go before reopening your eyes. When you pause to hold your breath.. be aware of your neck and shoulders.. give your head a little shake and let your shoulders drop.. when you release the breath you took in. Slowly open your eyes.. and viola…. another new opportunity.. it is a new moment.

Ancestors’ day

This was last year, but I saw three yesterday when I drove in at P22, Yahoooo

For readers who are interested in birds and live in my part of the globe.. I have been watching for the nuthatch, always a visitor to the various feeders, I have found them absent these past months. I have not seen one for at least a couple of months.. The past two winters they were always around, and I did hear them early in the season.. but not lately. If you come across one/two .. please drop me a line. Thanks.

I saw a headline the other day, “the age free life” it s not about a number, it is about energy, balance and joy. I had to ask myself how old the author of that article was, flipping through the pages, I saw that the oldest group they mentioned was 50’s. Checking the cover of the magazine I saw it was from 2016. Here we are in 2023, and not much has changed, except that the writer would now be 7 years old. In my own circle of friends I have seen the difference a few years make in not only their health, (my own included) but in their stamina and outlook on life.

Today being Ancestors day at the church, we celebrate what was, and look at what is, and we express our gratitude. In the magazine I was mentioning there was a challenge… It read, enter the gratitude challenge! what are you thankful for… I thought to send out this challenge to you, how many times do you say thank you in a day. Are you thankful for ???? what comes to mind?

Quote – “Every day you’re alive and someone loves you is a miracle” Rita Mae Brown.

Quote – ” I would maintain that Thanks are the highest form of thought and that Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” G.K. Chesterton.

La vie est belle – Life is beautiful.. and one of the reasons it is, is because YOU, yes you are in it. I may not know you, and you and I may never cross paths, but you are reading this post and sharing this moment with me.. For this.. I thank YOU.

Make today a “give back day” We can live our daily lives owing to our ancestors, our elders, and the work of our predecessors. Above all, kindness for others is the best way to give back.

A hideaway, a secret rendez-vous.. somewhere some place, an idyllic get away, I couldn’t resist when I saw this bit of landscape, I wanted to go up and be part of the scenery.. sit under a tree, enjoy the breeze coming off the water’s edge. But … it was not my place… someone else lived there. I was a passerby … who fell in love with that moment in time.

Of course this would have made a wonderful post for my Thursday Door challenge that I participate in, but today is not Thursday, it is Sunday, and this is when the picture fell out of my file … I couldn’t pass it by. I wanted to share the moment with you. Life gets so busy at times, that what happens is we react and respond to what is before us. In my studies last night, I listened to a lecture given at one of the universities on coping and living through the many challenges and opportunities we are given in life. Believe me, they can be numerous at times.

The picture above was one taken a couple of years ago when I was exploring a part of the virtual world I had not been in before. It was another artist’s creation, another person’s vision, i was just lucky .. I saw it and captured it … Now I wish I had taken the time to see who the architect was that had the vision to produce such a welcoming environment.

If you have an adventure in your nature, there is a new build in SL called the Golden Place, (A tropical photogenic island, it has many hideaways where you an enjoy some awesome views if you love taking photos, or just being on a beach listening to music, you might enjoy transporting your avatar to the island to explore, http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Golden%20Place/99/156/22

I had a personal experience recently that showed me that I can be vulnerable and my feelings and “comfort zone” can be turned topsy turvy… life isn’t always the same old, same old “stuff”. I can’t just call up a travel agent and board a plane for Cuba or some other far away destination. I am at the moment living in a world that is smack in the middle of a snow season. Sometimes come March, spring is in the air and the world is breaking free of the winter “blues” not so this year.

As a photographer, I love the virtual world for the many opportunities I have to see and visit the creative builds of artists/builders/designers/from all over the world, The Golden Place was put together by I believe a visionary from Germany. As a music lover I can hear and experience talented performers from all over the world. I noticed the other day that there was a whole afternoon of Brazilian music being presented on another Island (Isle Du Noir).. a Brazilian guitar player from Sau Paulo … after Wes, there were two other entertainers, I believe singers (also from Brazil) who delighted audiences with their music. I was already covering the new travel location, I missed it. Still haven’t figured out how to be in two places at once.!!

I share this with you because I know I’m not alone at looking out into the snow filled world and wanting a change. We are not in a position to pick up and go anywhere at the moment, it is tax time, we are facing several more weeks of “winter” weather… exploring new possibilities within easy reach… could be an option

Meanwhile today’s calendar reads…

Always be humble. If you work on things with the attitude of asking a favour, people around you will advise you what they have noticed. there is something in fact you are not aware of that you do.

A recent conversation with another writer/photographer was about -being alone- the comment that stuck out because I hear it so often, “I love what I do (photography) especially when I can be on my own in nature, wandering and searching out ‘possibilities”…. If you were asked your preference, do you like your alone time. is being on your own where your creativity shines through?

The ambient sounds, the birds calling, the wind, the sound of the waves … you had to be there!

somewhere

Good morning! as many of us look out at the bleary overcast morning, in my case, there is a heavy curtain of wet sticky snow falling making visibility very poor. I’m told by a friend whose work has her driving the roads, that they are very slippery. All around the city school buses are being cancelled, people are being asked to stay off the roads unless necessary.

What makes it difficult, is yesterday afternoon it was darn right balmy, roads were all dry and bare. But.. with the drop in temperatures over night, and the snow that has been falling now for hours, driving has become dangerous… there is black ice under the freshly falling snow .. drivers don’t know its there until they need to slow down or come to a stop and the wheels keep sliding.

If you have to go out, which some of us do… take your time. Personally I have decided not to venture out, especially my garage door is acting up .. and I may or may not even be able to open it this morning. Yesterday I had to manually get it open, and it was not easy getting it closed. With all this snow, I don’t want to have the garage filled with windswept snow etc. if I can’t get the door to close after I drive out.

Friend and photographer Shirley Keen in NZ was out walking yesterday, this is her “neighbourhood” .. just looking at the beach, water and hills in the distance was a breath of fresh air.. So…even tho’ I’ve already posted today, I wanted to shar the moment with you. What came to mind was that expression, “it must be five o’clock somewhere in the world” … in this case..we might be snowed in here, but somewhere else it is sunny and warm.
