How did you ring in the new year? Was it a big event for you? What does it mean to you? Has it or does it make a big impact on your life? I ask out of curiosity, in my world the moving into a new year, is a very personal and exciting time, not so much because it is a reason to celebrate and party, but because it is a milestone, one I can reflect on, and review all the goodness and positives that have enriched my life. I get to share the solar calendar with friends, and then later, the welcoming of the new lunar year.

When my Dad was alive, he would take me to big events, where there was always a dragon dance, with firecrackers, and the smell of incense filled the air along with the smoke from the fire crackers. We would go down to Chinatown, and he’d hoist me up so I could see the Dragon dancers make their way along the street .. merchants would stand in front of their shops… welcoming the dragon… there would be fresh oranges and rice on the small shop alters.. welcoming the new year spirits …. encouraging the dragon to bestow good fortune on their businesses, and good health and happiness to their families.

When my Dad passed the old traditions died with him… In my maturity, I have kept many of the old ways, the cleaning out of the “old” to make way for the “new”. I begin in late fall, meditating and reviewing what “life” is like for me.. Thinking of how I feel, what is happening with me, physically and intellectually. The biggie is…. is my life filled with contentment, am I happy. I am pleased that for the most part, yes … I am a happy person.. and.. I know contentment. Sure I get upset, and yes I have moments, but they are short lived, because, I like and prefer to be happy. We are all blessed with opportunities in life, I strive for and enjoy, quiet, serene, and tranquility. Simplicity.

waiting

I didn’t see her at first… she stood so still…

Once I caught the glimpse of her waiting patiently, I couldn’t “not” see her

My first intention was to just grab a picture … then I thought I’d clean it up, take away the tree she stood behind. In the spring when the tree begins to leaf out, she will be hidden from view again. I might still do that, meanwhile, I wanted to share her… She obviously has been there for some time. I wonder at the stories she could tell.

Awww … someday… I’ll stop and …. Another mystery to unravel when time and inclination strike again…

Today Monday the 30th. there is one day left in the year 2024. Are you ready for a new year, another 365 days of adventures, new opportunities, new friends…

Use your results to make the next time even better

Whether “things” turn out perfectly or not, the important thing is to take what you’ve learned and apply it the next time.

Talent

There comes a time when we have to acknowledge that there are talented individuals out there.. Naria the vlogger/blogger who put together this video of a holiday show that was presented in Second Life for the holidays, is an “influencer” who helps showcase the many individuals in the virtual world who work behind the scenes to entertain and bring happiness and smiles to everyone… Not just the communities within Second Life, but to everyone!

Every avatar you see is a “person” who has spent hours not only developing their online personalities, but working together to put together this musical. The set designers, the costume makers, the makeup artist… No one person does it alone..

So it is in our everyday world. Please everyone..

Let’s find the good in others and praise them

All people have good qualities and bad qualities, Focus on the good in others and applaud them every chance you get.

Hope you take the time to enjoy the presentation, it was a lot of hard work and dedication the the craft of

TRUE HAPPINESS COMES FROM WITHIN

My thought as I drifted off to sleep –

Solitude offers stillness of one’s own being.

The joy of/in simple pleasures

Happy week-end everyone.

A visit to the Sahara, Marrakech and a peek at Chefchaouen

With the white world around us at the moment, those wishing for a white Xmas this year, got their wish. And, with the deep freeze we had for a couple of days there is hope that the longest skating rink in the world will open this year. So saying, when these pictures came in from one of our “world” travellers.. I wanted to share.. the picture lower left … had me wondering why a carpet is rolled up against the outer door? Could it be there for prayers… I have other pictures to share of the blue doors found in that part of Africa… watch for them. Isn’t the brave little flower delightful. Hope you are all having a wonderful end of the year…

*** If you face a situation head on, a Path will open up ***

No matter how hard the situation is, face it head on. If you approach it seriously you will be able to find a way to break through. Make today, a memorable day! Let’s try to put our whole heart into whatever we say or do, as our unique signature.

There was a picture I saw of our “traveller” riding a camel across the desert. it “almost” had me calling CAA for travel arrangements.. then I remembered, cold or extreme heat.. I like cool and cold. the memory of that time in Japan during one of their “heat waves” flashed across my gray matter… I’ll continue to be an arm chair traveller… cheers everyone! See you on Dan’s page,, he is on hiatus till Jan.9.25.. but have a look. https://nofacilities.com/2024/12/26/just-in-case-3/#comment-377595

We are formed and molded by our thoughts. Those whose minds are shaped by selfless thoughts give joy when they speak or act. Joy follows them like a shadow that never leaves them.

Leave the past in the past. What is important is what you are going to do now. Using the present as a starting point, move forward on a path towards improvement and progress.

If you are going to do something, choose to do it with joy and enthusiasm. By doing so, you will experience a deeper sense of beauty.

Silence is a practice

Silence reduces stress

Silence is a gift we give ourselves

Silence brings us to the here and now

This can be a busy time of year to many. The environment around us can be hectic, loud and forever in a state of motion. It is a time of year that people can find themselves struggling to keep pace with what is happening around them.

Pause, take a step back, stop rushing around, it is a time for quiet reflection… soon the new year will be here. Look at what is important to YOU. If you are going to do something, choose to do it with joy and enthusiasm. By doing so, you will experience a deeper sense of beauty,

buttons

For all who have known me over the years… you know about my button ‘fetish’ for no rhyme or reason, I collected buttons.. and not a particular kind of button.. Just buttons, I had jars, bags, boxes of them everywhere. How many of you over the years, wondered where they all went. They got put away and stored…. for what? who knows? Finally after my husband passed away, and I began to downsize, I decided to pass some along.

One friend came over and we literally filled her trunk full of big jars, containers of all sizes with buttons. No that wasn’t all, another friend who was going to open a boutique of vintage clothes etc. came and took away another car load of buttons. No I never sorted through them, well… that is not true, one dear friend who I don’t see much these days, (part of the doll club) came over one day and ambitiously thought of sorting buttons into sizes, colour etc. It was like taking a pail of water from the ocean to count the drops.

Do I still have buttons, yes. the other day I looked down behind the bench in the living room and saw a couple of decorative bottles against the wall…yup… filled with buttons. the cleaner had dusted and put them back… to be found another day.

No. I no longer collect them when I see them bagged in thrift shops.. or in hobby shops, in fact I never even look for them, or see them except to notice they still have buttons in craft areas.. and since I no longer sew I don’t frequent material shops. Kind of reminds me of when FB sends me notices, do I want to see what I was doing 5 years ago. No. not really. I lived it. I don’t need to see it again.. there is NOW and I want to know what is around me NOW.

It is the journey that intrigues me, the adventure of NOW. I enjoyed my search and discovery of buttons, they were just fun to find and collect. I imagined at the time I would do ???? I had so many ideas.. but. in the end. that is what they were ideas. Over the years I have been full of them… and I loved every moment of “possibilities” The sharing of the spoils.. and … then… I was ready for the next adventure.

Life is what we make of it.. and I have ONE goal, and that is to be happy. When I worked I loved what I did, I experimented… if I didn’t like what I was doing, I moved on. When I found something I liked I enjoyed it to the fullest, and did my best to see how much I could achieve or do. I loved getting up each day to discover what lay ahead. I still do!

Don’t let circumstances sway your decision

It does not help to overthink things. Sometimes we just need to make up our minds and move forward..

There was a time, a button saved the day.
