exhausted? overwhelmed?

How long does it take for mushrooms to grow, and what determines how the fungus will take shape? Finding these little gems took my mind away from the annoying conversations it was having .. Really I had been thinking of totally irksome information that had come into my gray matter over the course of the last few weeks. I was out in the woods, having a lovely walk … doing what I don’t usually do, I was going the wrong way along the trail towards the bog boardwalk. (the boardwalk has signs that clearly indicate we are wanted to travel it in the direction indicated by the arrows) My reasoning was that I was not going to take the boardwalk, I was walking the path towards it and then planning on taking the trail that leads off in the opposite direction.

My plan and what actually happened are two different things. I’ve been tired lately, I have had a lot going on around me, my walk this morning was to let my thoughts clear, and let the morning air, clear and unclutter the gray cells. That said, I think the thoughts were all vying for the exit and rushing towards it at the same time.

When walking this way (my first time to do so) I had to look at my surroundings differently, I decided to take the small path that led me between very tall evergreens. (looking for wood for me to carve).. I was checking every fallen branch and log I came to. It was a short enough detour, but I was now juggling pieces of wood that I had picked up, and realizing that I would have to head back, since now I had my arms full carrying my “finds”. I came out unto the main path I had previously been on and there before me was the remains of a tree that had fallen during the storm, … while the main trunk had been removed from the path, cut into pieces and moved away from the area, there were still interesting pieces lying there for me to pick through, I had to put down what I was carrying, in doing so, I found the fungi seen above.

The feeling of exhaustion and the overwhelming parade of nattering that had been happening in my head, vanished. I was totally captured by the interesting pattern and textures of the fungi.

The best timing is when you notice. When you notice something, it is God sending you a message. Act right away so you don’t miss good timing

Sometimes we have to break away from the clutter and senseless chatter that happens when we go too long without taking a Me break. It is easy to get caught up in the “must do” “need to do” things that we think are so important… they are not. Our well being is what is important. think about it. You, yourself and only you … are responsible for your happiness and state of mind, YOU are the director of your life,

Mer bleu back in 2021
now 2022

This is where I spend a few minutes each day weeding… pulling out the growth in that one area .. slowly the small birds, the nuthatch, chickadees .. are coming to see if some offerings have been put down, The Doves love cleaning up the “floor”… the blue jays are back watching for me to arrive… have even caught sight of black birds .. the wild turkeys are of course still around, they had several months of little to no traffic.. now the cars and humans are returning.

Let’s have a humble mind. Once you think, “that’s good enough,” you become blind to the opportunities to be more creative.

doorways

photo Ian Mitchell

Doors are so important in our lives, and we take them for granted. Wandering around, we find doors in all shapes, colours and sizes… they all lead somewhere or to something. I’m blessed with friends who know and share my love of doors.. I was delighted when this picture landed in my InBox. Lately I have been working on being more aware and mindful… this picture brought joy, made me smile, two doors flung open in welcome.

You can be with God by having a prayerful mind. Let’s pray for World Peace. We are all one big family. Let’s start by praying for the happiness of those around us.

Complaining mind

Caught up in dueling thoughts/emotions

When instead of still waters, the energy around you seems to be constantly stirring and charged with negative emotion. you can’t pin point where the “distress” is coming from… but.. you know its there.

I recall at the office opening an envelope one day, in it, one of the ladies from the accounting department had put in a sheet of paper, on it was a photocopy of a list of statements that were about aging. Some of you old enough to recall photocopies (these were the days when we sent memos and inter office communications via. internal mail systems that usually comprised of a “mail Person” … who went from floor to floor, office to office delivering the mail (internal/external) that had been received in the hospital’s mail room, sorted and then delivered

Anyway I digress. the sheet of paper was meant to be funny, and usually we all had a mini break of laughter as we read about – how at one time we knew where we were going, and now, we left the room and forgot why? Or couldn’t find the glasses we thought were missing, only to be told we had them on, etc. there was one, and someone out there can remind me if you recall the exact words, but was to the effect that our new friends now all had names like BenGay, Absorbine Jr. etc. and went on to name other over the counter creams/lotions, for people to deal with arthritic pain, sprains, muscles etc. I used to think, is that all people can talk about when they get older. their aches/pains/discomforts.. sore this, sore that, can’t do this anymore, can’t remember, always forgetting, being slower than before, blah blah blah.

OK I’m older now. and of the generation that no longer wants to leave the house at 9 or 10 o’clock because that is when things start to happen. (yes at night). Nor am I interested in attending the most amazing live concert at the stadium or some other event that involves hundreds and hundreds of people standing in line to get in and then standing or sitting packed together to listen or watch some event. (mind you with Covid that came to a standstill for awhile)

All this, if you think about it, is a way of complaining… it is seeing the negative and trying to accommodate it. Think about it. How often in the day, given a chance to say or express yourself, your response is about a negative. It’s soooo cold, a question like “how are you” .. elicits, “its been so hot, the humidity is killing me” ” I stood in the drizzle yesterday watching the dog run…or having a conversation..”

I realized that I was moaning and groaning yesterday, complaining about my aches, pains, and inability to do things like I used to… wow… voices from the past came crashing down on me. I was becoming a complainer, I need to focus more on the feel goods, the positives… then a little voice askes in wonder, how did this happen….???? and I don’t know that the answer jumps out at me. Today’s calendar says..

Express yourself clearly so others can understand you. When you can’t communicate clearly, it can lead to problems. Always express yourself carefully to avoid any misunderstandings.

In PL we learn to recognize when we are complaining, and we are tasked with the exercise of working on changing that habit. it is an ongoing exercise for me, picture a wee hamster in her cage with a treadmill.

meditation

I sat in silence, my companion shares the summer moment with me. There is a quiet exchange of simply being, side by side. No long range lens, just me, myself and I with the duck. Sharing a forever moment.

As I got up to leave, I was swarmed by a couple of wild turkeys and their brood. I was sitting on a fallen tree that was lying over the water, the young ones were rushing down to drink … they were now inches from me, with the one look from the parent, I saw down again… I knew who was trespassing in their space. When she saw I was not going to move or do anything to scare her brood, she meandered off and left them to peck and drink. It was interesting to watch how they turn over the rocks with their feet to get whatever juicy morsel is under the rock.

Being objective

talking to strangers

Do you talk to people you don’t know. Are you someone who strikes up a conversation with someone you don’t know who happens to be where you are, when you are? I hadn’t heard the term before, but I saw recently in an old Oprah magazine, an article about an author Malcolm Gladwell, who writes books about “cultural conversations”.. he writes about how close encounters between strangers can teach us ,how we can get better at reading each other’s signals. (Tipping Point)

Thinking back over my many years of my existence, I can’t count the number of people I’ve met, either in the workforce, out for the evening, waiting in line when running errands… everywhere, there is always, someone, somewhere who is close enough for me to greet or acknowledge. Do I always? .. no.. but on average compared to my friends and close associates, I would be considered “outgoing” and more likely to start up a conversation, or even, just say Hi, nod, say good day… I’ve met some of the most interesting people that way, and actually have found that I like most people I meet.

Being Chinese in the North America of many years ago, meant that you were “the oddity” your cultural background was different, and of course you “looked” different… I was taught that everyone has feelings, and meeting someone was an opportunity to “grow” as a person, to “learn” … my perspective on human behaviours was honed from a very early age to listen carefully, to watch and be aware of life as it came my way. PL Precept # 7 Everything exists in relativity.

It is in the meeting of people with different ideas, and backgrounds, that I found so many “treasures” (moments of wonder. PL Precept # 6 Efface your self-conceptions.

We are all so unique, I really enjoy brief encounters that elicit a smile, a wave, a brief exchange. =^_^=

When you get stuck, take a step back. When you are able to see things objectively, your viewpoint will change and you will receive new wisdom.

Perfect Liberty 2022.23

PL Precept # 18 Each moment is a turning point – we often make judgements based on our own unconscious biases. I try to be aware of my reactions and to be more receptive to “learning” and being more “open” to “differences” – an exercise that is ongoing… not that I’m a slow learner, .. there is just so much to see and discover.

Friends

The charm of doorways found in Quebec City.

I don’t get to travel around as much as I used to … or would like to… I’m so grateful to have friends who know of my love of doors and send me smiles when they are away. Blessings come in all shapes and sizes, I am blessed with friends who are thoughtful and caring.

Today on Thanksgiving (PL day of Appreciation) I give thanks as I do every month on the 21st. for my valued friends. It is impossible to tell them everyday, but I pray every day and keep them in my heart always. Friendships are gifts that are treasures that enhance our lives.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Let’s live with gratitude towards everyone and everything all day today.
