Someone wrote on his/her profile they preferred to take the roads less traveled. This morning as I took my time driving to the feeders, I revelled in the serenity of the road I was on. There is something to be said about going somewhere early in the day, before many are out and about (it was after all a Saturday )
I wonder who is happier . me when I see the birds waiting for me to clear the snow and open my trunk to access the seed/suet, or the birds. They sing and begin to fly to the feeders, some come directly to me and land on my scoop with the feed, no longer shy they just dive in and fly away with their prize.
Help the people around you smile more. Always strive to make those around you smile. That will bring you joy too.
With the snow still falling… I wanted to hear the water rushing, see it happily gurgling along… I have not seen this much snow this early in December in awhile. Everyone wishing for a white Xmas will be happy…. so will the X country skier’s and snowshoes trekkers/ hikers… it is pretty, I’ll give it that. Hopefully the roads will be plowed. The forecasters are still calling for snow warning….
Start today with a fresh outlook. Even though people and situations may look the same, they are constantly changing. Start each day with a fresh mind.
Seeing my babies tuck into the suet is all the thanks I need… the snow was falling so steadily and hard, everything was blanketed in snow. At Mer Bleue the city plow had been by to do the parking lots, but the driver although he has to drive from one parking lot to the other… lifts his blade, he does not do the roadway. I did make it to the second parking lot… where to my surprise the NCC contractor* was there shovelling a path to the outhouses. WOW… dedication for sure. I got there it was shortly after 7 a.m.
The birds were so happy to see me, they were hovering over me waiting for the scoop to appear with the seed. LOL then I had a chickadee escort service tailing me to the feeder I was heading to fill. Even the grosbeaks were nattering at me to hurry up. No sooner was the feeder cleared and seed put in, there was a gathering of evening grosbeaks all around the feeder showing great appreciation for the feed.
Linda* helped out.. we walked back and forth tramping down the snow before putting out the still in the shell peanuts for the blue jays. They were patient but did vocalize from time to time if they thought we were being a tad to slow. Of course they could have been scolding Linda who sneaks a peanut or two when she thinks no one will notice… believe me the blue jays have sharp eyes.
At P23 (Dewberry) it was very quiet, the lot had been cleared, but the drive to the location was dicey at best. I was joined there shortly after my arrival by wildlife and nature photographer Dan Cadieux.. . https://www.dancadphotography.com/blog/ who like me… revels in the quiet of the early morning in the woods… he was already snapping pictures seconds on arriving.. the birds were busy chowing down on their morning breakfast. This fell in a very short period of time. The forecast is it will continue to fall all day in huge amounts. They are calling it a mammoth storm. Temperatures are around 30 degrees F. and are aging to stay in that range for the day. I am considering my options… Appointment for winter snow tires is next week.

If ever ever I have any doubt that the holiday season has arrived, I visit friends who know just how to celebrate the season. Every year their home is one huge present to the neighbourhood. At night the house, trees, and inside are a festive kaleidoscope of colour. The one tree you see is festooned with hundreds of ornaments. Every year I get to meet new pieces.
The house is ablaze with cheerfulness, no matter where you look, there is colour, sparkle and the joyful wonder of the season … this takes hours and days to do. Their makoto (sincerity) in sharing their love of the season… echoes and vibrates in the atmosphere. That little nose you see is one of 5 little pups, maybe all of 5, 6 weeks old.. The other dogs, whippets and borzoi were resting in their crates. Believe it or not.. the house is usually full of active dogs.. yet the decorations and except for one or two favourite ornaments – the welcoming scene remains intact for all to enjoy.

Something to tuck away to look at .. later.. Mindfulness teaches that interruptive thoughts are actually very pliable and like elastic bands… we can snap them out of the way… put disruptive thoughts aside, “you can tend to them later” ( I have a drawer full of elastic bands.. all colours and sizes…just saying..) The day comes, I open up the drawer and toss them all away.. why… I forgot what they were for. =^_^= ….
After the big storm we had last spring, I went in search of this ancient tree, it was still standing, but had lost some of its upper limbs. These past few days it has been so busy for me, that when I look in the mirror.. I see a reflection (kind of) looking back at me that reminds me of this tree trunk. LOL.. every line, every crevice tells a story. (yes I have a vivid imagination!) …. Just saying… when morning comes and you wake up wondering how long it will be before you can reclaim your spot in bed…
It is a busy month. Let’s ALL take a moment in the day to reflect on what this month is all about. Not tinsel and sparkle.. but JOY and GRATITUDE, Peace on Earth, Goodwill…..
Express yourself clearly so others can understand you. when you can’t communicate clearly, it can lead to problems. Always express yourself carefully to avoid any misunderstandings.
It is the moment you wake up and realize it isn’t a dream – there is a camera in your face – you are not alone – someone has intruded into your personal space. Geeesh…
The best timing is when you notice. When you notice something, it is God sending you a message. Act right away so you don’t miss good timing.
There is a hush … a quiet that reaches in and stills the restless mind.
No matter how hard you try to foresee the future, you really don’t know how things will turn out. Do your best and see how it plays out. Trust in your instinct, take action without thinking too hard.
