deafening silence

Along an open highway, I came across a long forgotten saw mill, and the adjoining lumber yard.

I do remember the days when the logs would be merrily making their way down the river to the saw mill. Men would be out along the banks with long handles picks. During fairs we even had log rolling contests, everyone stood, cheering the contestants on. Nature was so much a part of our lives.
I was impatient with my sister yesterday, do I recall just why. No… but in my defense, the silence of the last many months, of voices, friendly conversations, and welcoming smiles of strangers along the roads travelled. Has left me rather empty. I am tired of always hearing only about destruction, violence, disregard for humanity, negativity, yes there has been and is a “problem” – WE – are all affected by it. But I refuse to have it the center of my life, and my reason for living is not to live in fear, distrust, and self exile.
Part of the saw mill grounds are being used by another company.

Life, the world, will continue to evolve and nature will continue its cycle of rebirth and renewal. My hope, my prayer is that we as people will once again resurface and the values of love, family and community, will emerge and be stronger then ever. Silence can be music to our hearts and souls when it is listened to with an open, caring heart. Stand up and be heard, it is time for PEACE ON EARTH and GOODWILL towards all.
