I miss the wild turkeys, they have not been around since late fall. I know they are around in other places, but there has not been one in the Mer bleu area for weeks on end. This picture is one taken my Ottawa wildlife Photographer Michel Lanthier https://www.facebook.com/michel.lanthier.79

Today is a brand new day. If you think, “it’s just another day” your life will simply be stagnant and unchanging. You are in fact given this unique day, unlike any other, so live it to the fullest.

I like to think of myself as always being creative and able to adapt. Surprise, I uses and avatar to navigate and get around in a virtual world. Over the years, she has changed as the technology has changed, so I was really surprised when I was not forced to, but it was time for an update and I made changes by updating to a more “today” head. The technology of the world around me in the virtual world has been changing in leaps and bounds, and I was still years behind in the technology I was using to get around.

It was a shock to see the transformation, and to realize that the face looking back at me, was me, but she wasn’t. Kind of like looking in a mirror and realizing the face and body you see is not what you remember it to be. In talking to others who have undergone the same “changes” it seems that it is not a quick fix, but one I’ll be adjusting to over the next while.

Like life really, I think and feel like me, but when I see myself in a mirror or pass a shop window, I’m always taken by surprise that there is someone else with me.

For you who follow my adventure in the “woods” I walked one of the trails yesterday, So I covered over a mile over snow packed down by snowshoes/X-country skiis, and hikers. The snow is a hard crust but beware in many places it was soft under the ice, and you could drop a good foot or more before hitting a hard surface. I was glad I had my poles with me. For sure it would have been disaster in places had I not also been wearing cleats. Also. note if you venture out and .. if you are not familiar with the trails, stay on the main one if you can determine which one it is.. landmarks are very different or non existent with all the snow and fallen trees.

On the plus side, the woods the last week or so have been filled with the singing of birds. Lots of birds. Days are getting longer, and we have had ”mostly” a mild winter, If you love the happy chirping of birds… take a walk in the woods.. Pure awesomeness.

soon

Soon I can tramp through the wilderness to meet up with “old friends” In chatting with fellow “birders” yesterday I was reminded of my trek along the river bank in a secluded area, when I came across this beauty. It was snowing yesterday, with a chill wind, but that didn’t stop one of the “gals” from chasing after a minx who teased us by running past us in a great hurry to “?” Life is a wonderful adventure, each day is a new chapter…. Enjoy whatever you get up to today!

Macro shot of an ice crystal,,… by Dan Cadieux https://www.instagram.com/dancadphotography/

Good morning, yesterday I mentioned how sometimes it is hard to step out of the “past” and “let go” so that we can move on, relearn to live and begin new “adventures”. Dan who usually does a lot of wildlife photography also has a love of the inner beauty of “ice”…. In delighting in his “captures” the other day, I saw a couple of the macro shots he took of ice.

This one reminded me of a star burst against a midnight sky, In prayer/meditations of late, I have prayed on the memory /reflection of how so many “friends ” have come and gone over the years, Altho’ they are not physically here, I can’t just call up and come by or /drop over for a visit… the many hours we did have of sharing/ the laughter/ the anxieties as we coped with life, all come flooding back. Their imprint on my life lives on.

One of the positives I liked about photography was the ability to not just see the “surface” but with a good lens, patience and a steady hand, we could actually see beyond what the naked eye can/could take in, IF we took the time to “see” beyond the moment, and really look and immerse one’s self in the total connection we discover new realities. Even as we enjoy the crystals that formed that one piece of ice, it was in the process of changing, and that moment in time in seconds will/would be gone never to return.

Don’t be swayed by the past; It’s what you do from now on that counts. Your failures as well as your successes are now in the past. Always look towards the future and start with a fresh outlook.

PL Precept #18  Each moment is a turning point.

The rain these past days, has washed away much of the snow. Somehow I doubt that we will be spared a visit from the snow queen who will make up for her delay with gust and enthusiasm to paint the landscapes white again. The critters have been very busy storing what they are gathering …a lot of take out. Given a choice on the menu, the favourite has been the peanuts in their shells. the shelled peanuts are left in favour of the ones in a shell.. a big Thank You to my neigbour that left me an almost full bag of the black sunflower seeds, they LOVE those.

Images from Egypt taken recently, my niece, nephew and family are visiting, it was nice to see some history … I see a little sliver of blue sky! What a great experience for the great nieces.

The vet and his team, made a house call. Velcro got to be in his favourite place to be, watching over his domain and waiting patiently for his family to come home. Just as the procedure was taking place, a red cardinal came and sat outside the window in the living room where I saw.. looking in and where Velcro was with the vet, He stayed there till the vet walked away back to me to say, Velcro had passed. I knew, because just before he came to tell me, the cardinal flew away, It was 11 a.m. on the 21st. the day of appreciation and gratitude.

He was my husbands “buddy” they were constant companions., I like to think that they are back to hanging out now,.. It is a sad time for me even if intellectually I knew/know it was/is time,,.

Don’t be sad with me… Velcro is no longer in pain, his spirit lives on in my heart. Keeper (my ten year old) and I will soldier on. She best of all knew how much he suffered.

Deceptive

Beautiful snow covered landscape is so pretty .. that is what it looks like out there at the moment, temperatures dropped, so snow fell over the treacherous black ice/ & plain frozen over rain from yesterdays downpour. Temperatures dropped overnight to the mid twenties and are expected to stay below freezing for most of the day. Though precipitation is expected to stop sometimes this morning and from then it will be sunny… till maybe Saturday..

It can’t be stressed enough if you are going to come out to the woodlands … if you have them, wear cleats. Walking will be dangerous, Falls at this time of year can be “painful”.

Flexibly adapt to changes. The world around you changes, and so do you. Enjoy the transformations and deal with them flexibly.

let’s share

A friend baked these in 2020.. I just look at the picture and my mouth waters. I kept the picture because seeing the bread never fails to give me a moment of quiet reflection. The smell of freshly baked bread is such a warm delicious comfort… Might have to stop for a toasted bagel on my way out… yes, good idea..

I listened to a podcast last night, about today’s food, what we purchase at the “store” .. how food has changed since before every home had a refrigerator. When we ate freshly grown vegetables and what was in season. My friend that baked the bread.. is always making something from veggies she has grown in her small garden patch or acquired from market that day. I admire that .. yet… it is just not something I do.

We are all unique and different in how we “live” that is what makes the world such an interesting place … I learned from her about how olive oils are not all the same, and one day at breakfast … she brought out a bottle of oil made at their home in Greece, from olives grown on their land, and bottled there. What a treat!

I am very grateful that I have been blessed with a number of diverse friendships… learning about different ways to enjoy life is “priceless”… Friendships are one of life’s most precious gifts.

A thankful heart leads to happiness. When we really pay attention we are surrounded by many things we can be thankful for, the society we live in, the kindness shown to us by others. You will be able to find true happiness when you can see and appreciate these things,

From my sister’s garden yesterday, Nice to see at this time of year, weather must be good where she is. I could send her a few pictures of the cold wet tree limbs and snow covered paths, hmm maybe I’ll wait for a sunny day. or a picture of the little scarf and hoodie I’m knitting for the black squirrel… nah will save that for when she sends me the beautiful photos of the hand stitched quilt she is putting together. =^_^=
