It has been hot very hot in this neck of the woods. The forecast is for a very unusually hot summer.. Spring was actually very wet for a good chunk of it, and now we are being visited by H O T weather .. so hot that even the sun/heat worshippers are being cautious about time spent outdoors. One of the hikers that I see on a regular basis out doing his walks/hikes . in all kinds of weather, has actually taken a break.. it was that bad.. and where the mosquitos and such usually start tapering off when the heat hits.. they have taken to gathering and attacking anyone that dares enter the cover of darkness (where the trees/woods are lush with vegetation)

Even the wild turkeys urge me to hurry up and get out of the car… so that they can breakfast and move away into the inner regions of the bog to find shade and a reprieve from the heat. The beavers, groundhog and rabbits stay in their dens. coming out only in the very early wee hours as the sun makes its appearance.

I am sorry with the passing of my long time companion and teacher (yes, Keeper taught me a lot) animals can’t voice with us, but they can communicate in a very clear way when they want something or want you to respond or interact with them. Someone sent me a text about what the wild turkeys eat at the “diner” when they come.

Depending on the season, their preference is whole corn kernels.. but in the spring/summer I have added what the suppliers calls “scratch” it is broken kernels of corn with various seeds, grains etc. (a feed they give chickens and such) I mix that with sunflower seeds. This way, all the smaller birds that like to join in on the buffet get to have some “easy pickings”

The turkeys at P23 .. the big boys, like the one you see above, to be smart asses.. will go over to where the blue jays/squirrels and chippies are eating and grab a peanut or two.. shake it and maybe give it back, but now, often they just swallow it down in one gulp. and casually walk away, Hope that helps.. even the mourning doves will come to share a meal.

Note, I had several packages of the dried veggies and freeze dried meat that were for sprinkling over Keepers prescribed dry food she had to eat… (made it more palatable) I sprinkled small amounts over along the side where the rabbits and groundhogs like to come for fresh greens. (wild grasses and ground cover) … and they nibbled away at that, This was an expensive treat.. but Keeper would approve of my sharing her no longer needed food with the wildlife. Keeper was an old soul.

Have a good day everyone. Life is to be lived and enjoyed… our time here is limited. We all have a best before/expiry date.

ps. yes I am considering offering a refresher course on “body rhythms/awareness” again for those interested in meditation in motion. Small class limited space.

mid month

Good morning everyone, happy start to a new week. Jim Robertson has been kind enough to share with me a post he did awhile back of Mer Bleu, this is a location I go to every day and share pictures with you from that location. It is also where the turkeys are. He has done a wonderful photo spread including the video on Mer Bleu… this is the link to his page. Treat yourself to the wonders of Mer Bleu in the autumn he has done an amazing presentation. enjoy.

love calling

Good morning world. I didn’t jump out of bed this morning, but at least I was motivated to get up .. yesterdays “happy moment” with my turkey friends.. has given me the nudge needed to leave my warm bed and sleeping companions (whippets) to get ready for an early departure for the woods.

We’ve had a bit of a return of a cold snap. When I got to the area yesterday, I again was a shade late, they were on their way back into the wooded area, I could see their tail ends sauntering through the trees, picking their way over the snow. (the picture above is from last fall). There were at lest 5 of them, I reacted, I called out to them like I did last year.. a beckoning call I used… (sweet talk) with coaxing and air kisses.. darned if two of them didn’t stop in their tracks.. to listen. I was encouraged, my heart may have even sped up a bit…

“Come to me, come on… look what I have for you…” (bribery pure and simple) the two that had stopped, actually began to run back towards me… they had to have been from the group that I fed last fall. The happiness and joy they gave me by responding to me and coming right up close .. after months of being away from me… tugged at my heart…. I couldn’t have loved them more…

I will always marvel at how Nature has a way of showing us that we are all part of the Universe and kindness and pure intent (sincerity) (makoto) are what will bring about positive results/moments in our lives.

be still my heart

Who says these wonderful birds don’t have personalities. This beauty was showing off for me today, and I was lucky enough to get my cell out for a picture. Since I get to see them now almost every morning, I am getting used to them, and them to me… I put out a product called bird butter that I get from a specialty shop.. I apply it to the bark of trees for the woodpeckers and smaller birds. Today, my attention was called to look over to where I had just applied it.. to see not a woodpecker, but….

pecking away at the bird butter

They are proving to be delightful critters, they are playful and naughty, curious and as you can see by the top pictures.. they can be hams/showoffs. they were seen eyeing the back of my car where the birdseed is stored (my trunk lid was up)… so far I’ve seen them with their necks outstretched, but they have kept a distance. I’ll be watching them. =^_^=

Thursday Doors NZ +

I can only begin to imagine what the fragrance must be around that wisteria at the time Shirley took the pictures. For more pictures of doors around the world, visit Dan’s site for today’s Thursday door feature. Being a Penquins fan, I was delighted today to see his own post features doors from Pittsburgh, PA. Oh could be a bit nippy out there, frost advisory over the next few days.. at 5:49 a.m it is 55 Degrees F, that’s not bad… It will be a good outing this morning.

Think “now is the Time” Instead of “It’s no use now” Don’t give up by thinking its too late. Tell yourself that there is more that can be done.
