“Art” books

pages-img

Good morning everyone. these are a few of the books I’m recycling. A few have been worked on more that others.  At this stage, they are really being prepped, or prepared for their days of adventure ahead

Some get collage, on half a page, some a full page, this is a start to revamping them into a collection of ideas, and possibilities.  Each page is a new canvas.  To work on the pages  they have to prepared.  By working this way, one gets to see how the media works on the different qualities of paper used by the book maker.

For example, glossy papers are not handled in the same way as pages from a dictionary or an older book that may have faded yellowed pages, that you want to keep, the page still needs to be prepped but you require a product that enhance and preserve the parts of the page you want to keep.

It took me awhile to begin working with recycled books, I was always taught to treasure a book.  When I saw so many that were simply discarded, slowly my thinking changed.  One of the books in the little grouping was an old library book with the little piece of paper in the back where it would have been stamped in and out by the library staff, and a small pocket for what used to hold the library card info.

The content pages of the book were all detached from the binding, some pages so faded and old they couldn’t be read or handled that much.  When asked what would be done with the book, I was told it would be junked (garbage)  It was a copy of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Black Arrow.  It had been published in London,W1 by Bancroft Classics, original sale price $1.25

Sorry friends, I bought it and came home with my prize.  I’ve put aside the original text from the books, and reused the cover and spine, adding different card stocks and Kraft papers to build a new body for it.  Not sure yet what I will do with the text pages, but I can use them .. and eventually I will.

When I am working on these books, I get to read the pages, and see where the book falls open to.. meaning the previous owner had looked at these pages often, and by the highlighting, they wanted to retain, and learn the lessons, this book provided them.

That quote by Thomas Paine is “Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must undergo the fatigue of supporting it.

The Sophocles quote  ” One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: that word is Love”

Life is for living, sharing and enjoying. Where a discard book is recycled, it once more shares “itself” with the world.

In this case, my sister lovingly sought out and found this material  and presented it to me.  I loved it..  I wanted it to be something that would be used, and appreciated every day.  I don’t get to see my sister every day, she lives in California, but I appreciate her every day. This pillow graces our bed, so every day, she is part of my daily life.   A sister is a precious gift, I am lucky and have two =^_^=

Yup.. shopping for supplies I will need for my February, and spring cards.  Time to think ahead.  On my list of places to go was a big art supply store in a major shopping mall.  I did not get there early, so…………. I was there at a time when the parking lot was wall to wall vehicles and shoppers were in possibly every walking space in the halls between the stores.

This is only November.  Imagine in the States where they still have Thanksgiving to go, before they are hit with the Xmas shopping  frenzy.  All around me I heard people talking about their lists, and how far they had gotten, and what was left to look for.

Penguins are big this year. I know the above is a Puffin, he’s a cutie, thought I’d give him some “press” =^_^=   So many of the clothing stores, had some kind of sweater with a penguin on it.  You will get to see a lot of them if you are out looking around.  The other   thing being marketed is the Ugly Sweater… These are new .. is the whole idea of the “ugly sweater” not to come up with a vintage one from days gone by???  Anybody?

Just so you know, this is what is coming, or so we are being told.  In preparation for such an event, I have begun to stock up, for days of “nesting”  Which brings me back to my card making. =^_^=   How well are you prepared for the next couple of months.  If you are in a climate with 4 seasons, and winter is ahead, do you have your snow tires yet?  Are they on the car/truck?

While I made my way from one shopping location to another, via the highways, (stayed away from the downtown area, Santa was having his parade today) I mumbled to myself that it was time, I took week-ends off from going out and about.  from now on, it will only get busier.

I got a lot done, and best of all, I had a lot of time when waiting at lights, and traffic slow downs to think about how much I will enjoy my extra hours of “nesting” once my chores are done.

the lonely tear

53b3037e89f46a09108070fcbaccc56e

the rain fell, I could hear it beating relentlessly on the window pane

I knew eventually it would end, just like I knew that tomorrow

would be another day,  whether the sun shone, or it didn’t

the pain inside, would still be the same

8bf23507538bc3655ab0431529e65183

when we open our hearts to love without restriction, only unconditional love

we agree to the live the roller coaster of emotion that will eventually

wash over us. as we are betrayed by the one lonely tear

that single tear that escapes to leave a trail of scaring from the past

reminding us … that… like the love songs on the radio

to know love is to know sadness and sorrow

216c6caff6949fb03250ac9990371645

no, not for love lost, but for a love so strong that it embraces the hurt and disappointments

of another, and cries in frustration at not being able to erase the other’s pain

to love  with untethered , unbridled passion, so intense, so powerful

that the one single tear, holds the commitment of all eternity

a love pure. strong and so divine, that no name or word can describe

the wonder of that single tear

7380ae85341f0780d0857903e4efa13d

one can’t know love without knowing the agony of a bruised and broken heart

to open up to a love so sublime that the single tear  is a subliminal message

to the brain and heart, that at this moment, at this time, you are in a state

of now and forever… the lonely tear is a testament to all that has gone before

and the proof a human heart beats in time to the

rhythm of life’s ongoing energy

of love in the now

forever and always
