Deceptive

Beautiful snow covered landscape is so pretty .. that is what it looks like out there at the moment, temperatures dropped, so snow fell over the treacherous black ice/ & plain frozen over rain from yesterdays downpour. Temperatures dropped overnight to the mid twenties and are expected to stay below freezing for most of the day. Though precipitation is expected to stop sometimes this morning and from then it will be sunny… till maybe Saturday..

It can’t be stressed enough if you are going to come out to the woodlands … if you have them, wear cleats. Walking will be dangerous, Falls at this time of year can be “painful”.

Flexibly adapt to changes. The world around you changes, and so do you. Enjoy the transformations and deal with them flexibly.

It was COLD yesterday morning, the blue jays were puffed up as they patiently waited for me to throw down their morning treat of peanuts in a shell. They do tackle the whole corn kernels and kibbe/sunflower seeds, but its the peanuts that they favour, Enthusiastic diners! With a prowling “eat you up” bird in the neighbourhood, I stayed with them ,.. going back and forth to my car to the various feeders which gave them the time to have breakfast … The “merlin” (Falco columbarius) is a small species of falcon that preys on the smaller birds. Another reason that I sometimes sit with them while they dine.. (mornings when it is as cold as it was yesterday, there are/were no other “human” visitors to be seen or heard from. it was Blissful!

This wonderful collage of Cardinals, was presented to us by photographer Michel Lanthier, to see more of his captures, you can visit his FB page https://www.facebook.com/michel.lanthier.79 an avid nature photographer, he brings the beautiful birds you see,( or don’t see,) that share our environment. I am blessed that I have a family of Cardinals that have adopted my feeders in the front yard, so I was delighted when I saw his post. I am never standing there with my camera .. and even if I was, I would be trying to take the picture through my Livingroom window. thank you Michel.

Breakfast

I visited with them for almost an hour, the guests just kept arriving. In the afternoon at a different location, I had cardinals, chickadees, sparrows (several varieties ) starlings and a couple I didn’t recognize. In the morning I also brunched with crows, MANY crows.. Yesterday you could say was a day for the birds and wildlife. * I didn’t get pictures of the nuthatches/chickadees/BlueJays or woodpeckers.. there was too much movement (there had to be close to a dozen Bluejays) around me. *Note.. there is a place or two now for those of you who bring a small stool or folding chair to sit and enjoy.

Express your feelings straight away. It will be good if you could express your feelings as they are to people around you, when you are happy or when you ae troubled.. Also, it will be a good chance for you to get to know others.

Friday 26th.

Which path to take… I’m learning from the turkeys… at first .. I was ” pleased” .. yes that would be the word … they charmed me by coming to eat when they saw me.. now I’m spending more time with them, I am learning, it is their world, and they really do have their own way of navigating the woodlands and surrounding fields. I am humbled that they accept to interact with me when they do. I stay on the paths, while they get to roam free under the overgrown or tumbled over branches and vegetation. Their stamina and ability to travel great distances in short periods of time is teaching me (reminding me) to focus and be in the moment. Live it.. appreciate the moment and move on.

I am a visitor in their world.

Yesterday I really felt that I should make more of an effort to be like the turkeys .. I should walk the trail enjoying the walk, not focus on getting the walk done … Looking at the trail is not walking it.

Pine Grove Trail

I was so sad this morning when I visited P18 otherwise known as PIne Grove Trail. You can see the destruction of this beautiful location .. it is completely torn up. My husband and I walked the dogs there years ago.. it was such a beautiful serene area. The story I wrote about the woodland creatures was set in this location. Seeing the devastation was heart wrenching.

Times like this brings home.. nothing is forever. Forever is now.. in that moment. The trees were like cathedral walls, their canopy was magical. Now as you can see, what was, is no longer. When the crews finally do get in to start clearing away the fallen trees, the landscape will be forever changed.

Much like my world without someone I thought would be in my life “forever”.. was called away into his own “forever” – life IS. only we (me, myself and I) can make changes within our “selves”

Start today with a fresh outlook. Even though people and situations may look the same, they are constantly changing. Start each day with a fresh mind.

nature therapy

Today was a day for reflection.

yesterday I found this little fellow sunbathing
today I watched the breeze weave and dance through the tall grass
I heard the rustle of vegetation and a wee chipmunk ran out, I was walking softly she was like a herd of cattle. =^_^=

the quiet of the day, the slow walk along the path, the vegetation, the birds, the activity of the wee ones in the woods, a blessing.

peek a boo

I see you looking back at me, I was thrilled you didn’t fly away

I took today as a ME day … I spent the day visiting with nature, even drove out to Shirley’s Bay and the Firing Range, it had been a very long time, it was good to revisit, and reacquaint myself with places I haven’t been to in years, now I can plan to go again. Sometimes we do the same things over and over .. visit the same places.. there is just so much more to explore and discover. A big thank you to my friends who are encouraging and being supportive. Actually to each and everyone of you… you inspire me, I appreciate you.

Always and forever

Long Sault Parkway

Long Sault Parkway – a surprise .. this was not where we were heading, but it is where we ended up.. The Long Sault Parkway is a series of 11 island that were created from high points of land after the flooding of the St. Lawrence river during the construction of the Seaway in 1950’s. for more info. on the Long Sault Parkway visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Sault_Parkway

We drove the whole 10.1 kilometers (6.3 miles) then continued on to Preston and highway 416 to get back to Ottawa. We couldn’t have had a better day for a drive. It was hot, but walking along pathways we found that took us along the banks of the St. Lawrence, offered up wonderful breezes off the water. We saw lots of water =^_^= Stopped at more than one beach!

Being a “vacation” day, we treated ourselves to hot fries from a chip truck, they also served up the most wonderful hamburgers.. and yes, we indulged.. DELICIOUS… Dessert – salted caramel ice capp.!!!! yes.. its true !!!!!! (yes from Tim Hortons)

You’re happy, I’m happy. Have the mindset of “good for you, good for me”. Express yourself in a way that makes others happy.
