Spring

A walk of discovery in the rain the other day. I love the quiet at this time of year, the awakening of the forest floor… the miniature ponds where winter snows have not yet evaporated. The falling rain plops into the standing water, creating beautiful little waves that dance and make merry… New growth hungrily soaks it up. I walked the old road towards the research station…. saw the sign that intrigued me when I first started to explore the area…

It is hard to imagine that this was once a thriving country road, with a tree farms, and other country homes. A speed limit of 60 mph or was it after the metric system came to Canada. ? . Change, the only constant in life!

For those celebrating a holiday week-end… may Peace and Glad tidings warm your hearth this cool misty spring morning.

We are each and everyone of us, “different”… we have our way of thinking and our own lifestyles. That is what makes life interesting. (PL2020.20)

Sunday-dimanche

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not try to blame others.HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT senior citizens who took:

The melody out of music,

The pride out of appearance,

The courtesy out of driving,

The romance out of love,

The commitment out of marriage,

The responsibility out of parenthood,

The togetherness out of the family,

The learning out of education

The Golden Rule from rulers,

The nativity scene out of cities,

The civility out of behavior,

The refinement out of language,

The dedication out of employment,

The prudence out of spending,The ambition out of achievement.

Received this in my morning mail. thought I’d share. why not! Anything resonate with you?

in passing. with the cooler weather I went in search of a piece of gingerbread…(from a gingerbread loaf, not cookies) None found!

Enjoy your day today, whatever you get up to.

How many times in your lifetime have you heard someone say… “You can’t see the forest for all the trees”.. when I first heard that expression, I went.. “wow” so true… now after years of going into the forest every morning to start my day.. I “see” the forest in a totally different way.. and yes there are a lot of trees, and there are a lot of things I do not actually “see” because every day/night there is something new happening in the woods.

So… I take in what I do see/feel and enjoy it… learn from it… and move on. This IS life, there are things we will experience with no rhyme or reason.. yet IF they present themselves in our “Present/moment of awareness” it is because there is something there for us. the Universe provides. It is in “living” our lives, that we grow and get to learn about the wonders around us.

Tell yourself “Things happen” Even if something is inconvenient, once you accept it you’ll be able to move onto the next step.

Good morning, thought I’d share my “gym” with you today. I thought it could be a squirrel, but look at his little hands, I now believe him/her to be innocent of thieving. I arrived one morning to find that one of the cylinder feeders was missing from its placement, I was perplexed, I had (I thought) secured it rather well to the tree with rubber coated wire. (this protects the tree bark)… On inspection I saw the green feeder under the bramble in the bush .. see bottom right picture. I could see it but to get to it I had to maneuver the big trunks …The first time it happened, Tanya arrived for her daily hike, … and helped me retrieve it. For her, younger and more agile she went along the side of the big limbs squeezing along between (see picture to the left of the one you just looked at….. She took her time and the feeder was retrieved.

The next day, the feeder was missing again. And again, I saw the animal had tried to drag it under the trunks into the bramble ,. likely to its place of residence. This time there was no one to help… after a bit of waiting, I tackled the situation myself.. YES I was successful, was most pleased with myself, I used one of my walking poles, climbed up and lay over the limbs extending myself forward till I was able to hook the feeder. Took some time and I did get a work out.. but it was a success.

This morning I will return to see if the (I think it could be a raccoon(s)) had another go at the feeder.

Your smile is what’s needed. A smile invites happiness and cheer and is essential to energize others as well as yourself.

looking for birds

Trekking through an area of land that until very recently was unknown to me, it is only some 15 minutes from me.. Yes I’ve been driving by for years, and never knew his gem existed. Took a serious world ” happening” to get me to actually get out of my car and explore the area. Also.. to give credit where it is due, it took my dog taking off on me out of the car .. and heading down one of the trails with an urgent need to explore.

I took him back there today, but on a leash. He was not impressed. The little missy, balked at going out, so .. guess what.. she got left at home. Too bad so sad, was not going to insist. When Velcro and I came home, we were both full of the most wonderful tantalizing smells. Don’t know how they communicate, but they certainly seemed to be having a good exchange of information ..

About the birds, I saw flashes of colour here and there, and birds darting from one tree to another.. but was unable to get one to light long enough for me to grab a picture. What I can tell you is that right now the woods are filled with the chirping and singing of the many species that are taking temporary accommodation in the area as they migrate through Ontario.

Life is really an adventure, some chapters are easy reading, and others are jam packed with excitement, tension, and the unknown.. Whatever chapter you are in, you have to know.. that the next page will bring something new into your awareness, it will be forever unfolding.

There will always be a way. if you persist and be creative without giving up, you will find solutions that you had not considered before.

country roads

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

There are times, when we are simply on a road, going nowhere in particular, just going.  Sometimes roads are long and winding, other times, they simply are a cleared piece of land that cuts through a woodland, hillside, or acres of farmed land.  Before it was the norm to have air conditioning in a car, we would drive with the windows open, experiencing the highs and lows of the ambience around us.  Our senses were alert to all the world around us, including the dust that swirled around the car on hot lazy days, pebbles hitting the side of the car, the manure in the fields.  We were bombarded with a myriad of sights, sounds and smells.  We looked around more, we took in everything around us.

We took the tracks that led to places that were simply “lost in time”…   When we stopped the world came alive with different sounds, and the blissful renderings of a countryside alive with the sounds of nature gave us a rhapsody of “quiet”

deja vu

DSC00350

I knew this place nestled in the trees, it came back to me, a very distant memory

The closer I got, the stronger the story line, from a time way before I walked this earth.

The trees were not as mature, in fact  most, except the one, were but  seedlings in the ground

DSC00351

“Father farmed the land for miles around.  The nearest neighbour was a day away, unless of course, it was a Sunday, and we could hitch the horses to the small cart.  We would all dress in our Sunday best to ride into the closest settlement, otherwise, we spent our days  tending to chores and learning to read by candlelight, once all animals had been bedded and we could rest before we ourselves had to head up the stairs to bed.”

DSC00352

I couldn’t resist a look inside, sure enough the stairs were still there, but somehow the rest of the living area had been taken down and left to be dealt with another day.  I did consider going in, to see if I could still see out the window, from outside, I saw it was still there.

DSC00353

Reality is, it was another time, and the youngster who grew up there, was long gone. The world has vastly changed, and now, this home that was, sits alone in an isolated little woodland, on the edge of big farming complex.

DSC00356

The windows of the past, that we encounter today, fascinate and intrigue me.  Similar to the interest I have in doors, doorways and entryways, the questions, the storylines, the hazy visions into what was, could have been, or could be………..  never cease to delight and titillate my creative cells.

just a little farther

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

There are times when you travel down a back road,  that the country side beckons to travel just a little further, and even lures you down a long forgotten, overgrown dirt road.  Just enough width for you to slowly inch your way, so that the brush doesn’t leave a trail on the side of the vehicle, and your muffler if you are lucky, will make it intact, till you find a place to turn around.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

You see signs of previous activities, but little else, the farther you go, the land opens up, and you see nature the way it is intended to be enjoyed. No parking lots, and fast food shacks, just the outdoors.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

We were able to find a place to park off the single road we’d been on, and made the time to climb the embankment and sit a spell..  The dogs loved it, even though they had to dive, they swam and played, enjoying the freedom of being in that space and time, just as we did.  What is it about the human race that we all want to travel to foreign lands, and only feel that we’ve been on a holiday, if we fight the traffic to the airport, wait in airport lobbies, and sit like sardines in metal contraptions that fly us through congested skies.  To arrive in an exotic place that isn’t home, (to us) rush around to try to see everything there is to see, then tired and over spent, we head home.  Back into the crowded airports, stand in line to go through customs, maybe even be detained.  Then on arrival back home, we still have to get to our homes.. only to be faced with a pile of mail we have to deal with, maybe a good night’s sleep, and then we are back at work, dealing with the backlog of “stuff” that was what we wanted to escape with our well-earned holiday.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

When really, not very far from where you live now, just by driving off the main roads. you will find a wonderland, that is pure, unpopulated by commerce and just a little farther, down the road waiting to be discovered.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Every time we venture off the tedious road of routine, we allow our “selves” to really holiday.  A holiday is when we re-energize, re-group, reconnect with the person we are.  Nature is the only true balm for the “soul”

Mindful

Being aware. involved, each day, almost every moment of our waking hours when we are mindful, we have pathways that open up and we are faced with what path we will follow.

Good Morning everyone =^_^= I have enjoyed researching how I would present this today, thank you for this opportunity and for the moment we are now sharing.

802ae102e1e78e7bba5162a4b3382da3Calm, peaceful, less journeyed, pristine, the photographer captured the silence of the moment, even though it shows that a vehicle can travel this road, it doesn’t capture that, the picture draws us in, so that if we are very quiet,we will hear the birds  and the rustle of leaves as the forest animals go about their business. It is very inviting.

bbcea7536952526366ec1d1d2c53f6d9This amazing shot was posted by visitjapan.com it is of Yuki-no-Otani snow canyon road in Japan.  The walls of snow are approximately 5 stories high.  Whew I see a car driving along there, hmmm do I want to be in it?  Actually if you really look there are many other cars so it is a well traveled road, still as beautiful as it is I might like to travel the road in a different season.

skippers_canyon

LOL now this picture, taken in New Zealand, where it seems there are many such roads to entice the adventurous soul, is approx. 22 km of winding treacherous road with no guard rails (Skippers Canyon near Queenstown) Look at the country side, I would love to be  there, however I don’t think in that particular vehicle pulling a load.

Being mindful, means choices, participating in the decisions/challenges the Universe provides us with.  Nature gives us the landscapes/tools, God provides! What path will you take today?

The leading line of the path leads the eye directly to the maple tree.
