Every morning for years I would drive by the farm and the two horses would be there to greet me as I drove by. Then I didn’t see them, the building they were housed in looked forlorn and empty. By chance I drove by when the tenant was by the roadside putting out the recycle bins… He told me the horses were not coming back,, they (humans) were moving. These beautiful creatures, were so kind and gentle, they would turn when I slowed and we would share a greeting…. The NCC has boarded up all the windows and the entrances to the buildings (still standing),… and …  all doors are closed and locked. Another adjustment .. another memory of what was…

Beauty

This beautiful picture was taken by Michel Lanthier who posted it the other day on his FB page.. https://www.facebook.com/michel.lanthier.79

For you are regulars, you know this past few weeks have been filled with a very deep sadness, and it was a cardinal who took flight when Velcro passed. (previous post). Michel has recently posted some beautiful pictures of cardinals, but when I saw this one he took of a bird in flight, I knew I wanted to share it. I find it so spiritual, beautiful and healing, I spend a lot of time with birds as you all know… I have them flying past me, landing on me and sharing hours with me… but this picture Michel got of the bird in flight, his ability to capture the detail of the graceful beauty as its wings open and it takes to the air … is breathtaking.

If I’ve learned anything over the past many years in the “bush” meeting up with the wildlife photographers, they are artists dedicated to their “art”… they spend hours in whatever weather we are having, waiting for that “one” moment in time…. thanks to their patience and dedication to their craft, we get to see and enjoy nature in a totally different way,

Put Makoto even into small things.(sincerity) Don’t let things go with “oh well”. You will have a different outcome if you put Makoto in all you do.

In a few days we will say goodbye to 2023 and welcome in a new year 2024.. are you ready?

let’s share

A friend baked these in 2020.. I just look at the picture and my mouth waters. I kept the picture because seeing the bread never fails to give me a moment of quiet reflection. The smell of freshly baked bread is such a warm delicious comfort… Might have to stop for a toasted bagel on my way out… yes, good idea..

I listened to a podcast last night, about today’s food, what we purchase at the “store” .. how food has changed since before every home had a refrigerator. When we ate freshly grown vegetables and what was in season. My friend that baked the bread.. is always making something from veggies she has grown in her small garden patch or acquired from market that day. I admire that .. yet… it is just not something I do.

We are all unique and different in how we “live” that is what makes the world such an interesting place … I learned from her about how olive oils are not all the same, and one day at breakfast … she brought out a bottle of oil made at their home in Greece, from olives grown on their land, and bottled there. What a treat!

I am very grateful that I have been blessed with a number of diverse friendships… learning about different ways to enjoy life is “priceless”… Friendships are one of life’s most precious gifts.

A thankful heart leads to happiness. When we really pay attention we are surrounded by many things we can be thankful for, the society we live in, the kindness shown to us by others. You will be able to find true happiness when you can see and appreciate these things,

Challah is a special bread of Ashkenazi Jewish origin, usually braided and typically eaten on ceremonial occasions such as Shabbat and major Jewish holidays

Merry?

This is grosbeak telling me to “get with it” I was late getting to the feeders and this bird had something to say about it. We had a lot of grosbeaks that year, (this was a couple of years back 2021) I miss the little beggars.. they were so vocal. However .. I would love to have them land in my patch again,… they were always so interesting to watch and listen to,

These days, the airwaves are filled with grumbling.. my goodness… I remember when the media brought joy and warm wonderful stories and put on entertaining shows for our viewing pleasure. All that is gone.. oh there are a lot of choices out there, but its all so “canned” and sorry “phony

I know “… there are movies out there that come around each season, same story line, different actors, backdrops are different but the same theme… boy meets girl, or girl meets boy whatever.. and you always know the ending.

Oh dear oh dear… I think I need to go find a cup of coffee. how are you dear reader, are you enjoying this “merry” month of December. Here the big worry is that it won’t be cold enough this winter for our canal to freeze for skating. Of course if it was cold and we had tons of snow, the complaint would be we can’t get around and it is soooo cold, how can we ski and skate comfortably.

I know I’m going to make myself a toasted ham sandwich on WHITE soft fresh bread with wilting lettuce . I’ll use hot mustard to make it all come together. Yum.

Even if you have done it many times before put your full heart into it, When we are doing something, especially if it is a small or easy task, we tend to get sloppy. Let’s put our whole heart into everything we do, even if its something as simple as pushing a button,

blessings

I have been reminded lately of how with the passing of the seasons, there is also a change in our daily lives. Some are slow and gradual, while others come up suddenly and take us by surprise. Either way, they are happenings that we cannot divert from our lives. Challenges, opportunities, they come in all shapes and sizes.

This month there have been many beautiful, loved souls who have passed on from this world we live in to an eternal existence that leaves us with cherished memories of what was. I would ask today that we take a moment in quiet prayer. Let’s give thanks that we were so blessed in having been able to know/learn/grow from our connection to these beautiful souls.

In your prayer please include all the members in our community (near and far) and around us who are dealing with issues beyond their control, help ease someone’s pain. take time today to listen with an open heart, make time to reach out and call someone who lives alone or could be in “need” of a “friend”,

Begin each day with a renewed sense of appreciation. Always remember that you are here today thanks to God, and thanks to the many people around you. Let’s make each day meaningful by starting out with a feeling of gratitude.

Worn, weathered, aging beautifully, still holding up and ready to welcome …wonder what the sound of the knocker is like. Funny I don’t recall taking this picture.. someone sent it to me? Thank you, I love it.

Choices

Thanksgiving offering at a friend’s place. I’m glad I wasn’t there, it would have been a difficult choice on what to put on my plate. Montana is a tad far to get to for a meal, but what a spread she put out for her friends! Wow! Wonder if she made everyone eat with chopsticks! Hope if you were celebrating Thanksgiving, you had a wonderful day/evening. Now its time to carry the bounty of kindness and good cheer forward.

Always be cheerful, happy and good humored. When you make the effort to be cheerful and happy, you will naturally begin to feel that way.
