Good morning world.. A lot can happen in a few hours. picture #1, my backyard was without snow, none to be seen. Picture #2 is what I see when I open my side door to get to my car, the contractor has been by to clear my steps and in front of the garage, the plow will come and clear the lane.. It was done twice last evening, what you see is what fell with the freezing rain pellets in the wee hours. Picture 3 shows you what I see from my back door. I had already cleared a path twice for Keeper to get off the deck to the back .. my last attempt was around 11:30pm.. you can see to the left, the accumulation. This is winter weather in these parts,, we have had it easy, December was one of the warmest months ever. and what snow fell was gone within days.

I saw the poster on the right when I was trying to find a picture without snow of my backyard.. Gave me chuckle, I love where I live, I enjoy the four seasons, and all that goes with it. However from the grumbling I’m hearing on the radio.. there are a lot of unhappy campers out there, We did get spoiled with the clear highways in December. Just means, the birds will be wanting their feeders cleared of snow, the Jays will hope for extra helping of peanuts, and the crows.. well.. they are in for a treat… I had check wings for supper, they get to pick the bones and enjoy the wonton wrappers I didn’t eat.. (I cheat, I like the shrimp or meat inside the wontons.. and save the skins for them…)

It is easier to adapt to something when we find it interesting. No matter how enjoyable a situation is, a slight change in our attitude can make it boring. Let’s face any situation with curiosity and enthusiasm.

If you are driving out there, be careful, seems some parts of the highway are like skating rinks, lots of water and under the water could be black ice. If you live where the sun is shining and the roads are bare and dry, offer a thank you.. and send positive thoughts out to people living under different skies.

I’m going to have Thai coconut chicken soup for breakfast!! yum!

Macro shot of an ice crystal,,… by Dan Cadieux https://www.instagram.com/dancadphotography/

Good morning, yesterday I mentioned how sometimes it is hard to step out of the “past” and “let go” so that we can move on, relearn to live and begin new “adventures”. Dan who usually does a lot of wildlife photography also has a love of the inner beauty of “ice”…. In delighting in his “captures” the other day, I saw a couple of the macro shots he took of ice.

This one reminded me of a star burst against a midnight sky, In prayer/meditations of late, I have prayed on the memory /reflection of how so many “friends ” have come and gone over the years, Altho’ they are not physically here, I can’t just call up and come by or /drop over for a visit… the many hours we did have of sharing/ the laughter/ the anxieties as we coped with life, all come flooding back. Their imprint on my life lives on.

One of the positives I liked about photography was the ability to not just see the “surface” but with a good lens, patience and a steady hand, we could actually see beyond what the naked eye can/could take in, IF we took the time to “see” beyond the moment, and really look and immerse one’s self in the total connection we discover new realities. Even as we enjoy the crystals that formed that one piece of ice, it was in the process of changing, and that moment in time in seconds will/would be gone never to return.

Don’t be swayed by the past; It’s what you do from now on that counts. Your failures as well as your successes are now in the past. Always look towards the future and start with a fresh outlook.

PL Precept #18  Each moment is a turning point.

2024.8

Do you ever feel like you are all alone waiting… Do you look around and “see” what was, and not what IS?

Some days, we walk around and go about our daily activities, but the world around us is not what it used to be… and we are not wanting to let go.. Maybe it is time to step back, and reconsider what we really want in life and where we “Need” to be… so that we can move on.

Give your best effort with a prayerful mind. Even if you’ve given your best effort, you may still have missed something important, Continue to have a prayerful mind even after you have completed the task at hand.

2024.3

Good morning, thought I’d share my “gym” with you today. I thought it could be a squirrel, but look at his little hands, I now believe him/her to be innocent of thieving. I arrived one morning to find that one of the cylinder feeders was missing from its placement, I was perplexed, I had (I thought) secured it rather well to the tree with rubber coated wire. (this protects the tree bark)… On inspection I saw the green feeder under the bramble in the bush .. see bottom right picture. I could see it but to get to it I had to maneuver the big trunks …The first time it happened, Tanya arrived for her daily hike, … and helped me retrieve it. For her, younger and more agile she went along the side of the big limbs squeezing along between (see picture to the left of the one you just looked at….. She took her time and the feeder was retrieved.

The next day, the feeder was missing again. And again, I saw the animal had tried to drag it under the trunks into the bramble ,. likely to its place of residence. This time there was no one to help… after a bit of waiting, I tackled the situation myself.. YES I was successful, was most pleased with myself, I used one of my walking poles, climbed up and lay over the limbs extending myself forward till I was able to hook the feeder. Took some time and I did get a work out.. but it was a success.

This morning I will return to see if the (I think it could be a raccoon(s)) had another go at the feeder.

Your smile is what’s needed. A smile invites happiness and cheer and is essential to energize others as well as yourself.

2024.2

Good morning,, remember this little guy, he came by like clockwork during the feedings late summer and into the fall. He would gather up all the peanuts he could and would scurry across the parking lot, way across into the trees in the distance. Now of course, he and his mates are “in” for the winter. When I’m feeding the morning diners now,,,. it is the red squirrels that are gathering, chattering and nattering at each other.. what a noisy crew.

With the dip in the weather again, the other day I had to have had two dozen or more Blue Jays raining down on me when I finally arrived with breakfast. This sound of that many flapping feathers zooming past me and around me, is rather “addictive” once you used to it. They actually dive bomb, with precision. It is something…. they come from all sides and angles, never an accident … I wonder if they have a way of communicating .. or is it, the fasted one to the target is the winner.

The lay out of the other Feeding area is of course different, so the jays there have a different method. What is truly amazing to me at this location is that some watch from perches really high up in the taller trees … The jays at the second location are also .. I think a tad smaller. For me its like being in Grand Central Station watching the events unfold from all directions, and at various level. The red squirrels can lead a merry chase,,, while the Jays zoom in with a purpose, the little reds chase each other while carrying on a verbal barrage of scolding and warnings… that go unheeded by the bigger black and silver fox coloured squirrels.

Meanwhile if I get to serve up the meals properly the woodpeckers and the smaller birds blissfully go about enjoying their breakfast while the ground activity bustles on. Didn’t see the Merlin the last couple of days, maybe he’s found a quieter patch. I have a rogue Raven who has been patrolling the area… and he is very vocal…

The rain these past days, has washed away much of the snow. Somehow I doubt that we will be spared a visit from the snow queen who will make up for her delay with gust and enthusiasm to paint the landscapes white again. The critters have been very busy storing what they are gathering …a lot of take out. Given a choice on the menu, the favourite has been the peanuts in their shells. the shelled peanuts are left in favour of the ones in a shell.. a big Thank You to my neigbour that left me an almost full bag of the black sunflower seeds, they LOVE those.

Images from Egypt taken recently, my niece, nephew and family are visiting, it was nice to see some history … I see a little sliver of blue sky! What a great experience for the great nieces.

dragon is on its way… soon.. officially 2.10.24

A change in weather can bring on cold sores, headaches, arthritis flare ups, and the list goes on. Not much can be done about it, weather patterns are changing and have been for some time now. The other day I heard a mother waited for hours in hospital emergency to get a prescription because she has been unable for 2 years now to find a family doctor, and the medication is needed in on ongoing basis for one of her children.

I remember thinking.. wow and my diabetic medication is on back order because medical practitioners have been prescribing it for weigh loss??? Its time we took our lives back, not be swayed by the hype and the media, but start watching what we eat, how we eat, and making sure we are living in a way that will maintain our health over the years to come .. without “needing” pharmaceutical products … that said.. have you tried to find a “real” watermelon lately. I looked for one that was organic, didn’t look pale pink and still had seeds. Did I succeed?

Some things in life we have no control over, ie..someone else’s health/behaviour, but we can take care that WE are eating, sleeping and being kind to OURselves. Did you realize how hard the body works to digest what we eat…? Do you eat after 7 pm? Do you allow for the body to fully digest a meal before you start feeding it again? I was bad last night, when Keeper went out after midnight, I saw the left over veggies and couldn’t resist snagging a roasted parsnip. Bad me. I had told myself the other day I was going to make a supreme effort to let my body get a decent number of hours for sleep.. and not have to digest food .. I stop eating after my evening meal. Yet.. where was my will power/good intention in the wee hours.??? This is something I have to do for me. No one else can do it for me.

Get things started with Grit. If you work on things in daily life with the attitude of “let’s do it!” you will feel a power to accomplish things. People around you will rely on you.

Beauty

This beautiful picture was taken by Michel Lanthier who posted it the other day on his FB page.. https://www.facebook.com/michel.lanthier.79

For you are regulars, you know this past few weeks have been filled with a very deep sadness, and it was a cardinal who took flight when Velcro passed. (previous post). Michel has recently posted some beautiful pictures of cardinals, but when I saw this one he took of a bird in flight, I knew I wanted to share it. I find it so spiritual, beautiful and healing, I spend a lot of time with birds as you all know… I have them flying past me, landing on me and sharing hours with me… but this picture Michel got of the bird in flight, his ability to capture the detail of the graceful beauty as its wings open and it takes to the air … is breathtaking.

If I’ve learned anything over the past many years in the “bush” meeting up with the wildlife photographers, they are artists dedicated to their “art”… they spend hours in whatever weather we are having, waiting for that “one” moment in time…. thanks to their patience and dedication to their craft, we get to see and enjoy nature in a totally different way,

Put Makoto even into small things.(sincerity) Don’t let things go with “oh well”. You will have a different outcome if you put Makoto in all you do.
