31st end of 2020

Time transports us – the shutter clicks, and captures “FOREVER” moments. The sights and sounds of 2020 will always be special. We learned, we experienced, laughed and cried. Like the incoming tide, it will wash over us, and then drift slowly back out never to return exactly as it was… Starting soon will be a brand new year, with all the joys and opportunities that will come in with the new day, new dawn.

Whatever the Universe brings to our doorstep, we will deal with it. We’ve grown stronger, we’ve survived the challenges of the past year. Best of all, we will do it together.

Ring out the old, bring in the new… In all certainty, it will expand our horizons, for we come a long way, we have learned, that together, we can change the world.

My friend had enough. We were getting along swimmingly, then people started to gather, ohhhing and ahhhing and in a huff, he just turned and walked away.

New encounters can help you change. Be up for anything, even if it’s out of your comfort zone. This is a chance for you to improve yourself as a human being.

I was going to delete the last picture, but then, it was what it was… he/she simply after being happy posing, just turned and left. Like us, birds know when they have had enough of “people”.. If ever you have occasion to see the program Nova on your telly, there is a whole segment devoted to the “bird brain”. I watched fascinated as birds worked out how to get food using “tools” or by observation and then working out how to get what they wanted. They have memories! Researchers have been able to prove, that some birds will pass on information to their offspring or others in their “group”… so that years later, when that bird is not around, other birds will have knowledge learned from that original bird’s experience.

Smile… tomorrow is the last day of year 2020. You ready?

This little creature was not going to be put off. He/she waited patiently for me to fill the feeder. There was a bit of hesitation at first, but after a moment or two of considering the situation, he/she made his/her decision and with determination, looked me in the eye, said “thank you” and dug in.

We were a smaller crowd, but everyone got their turn

With snow overnight and into the morning, some of the feeders had to cleared of snow, but all in all, there was a happy chirping and flurry of activity as everyone waited for a place at one of the feeders.

There will always be a way. If you persist and be creative without giving up, you will find solutions that you had not considered before.

Sunday 27th

this little guy is smaller, making his way to the suet on the left.

I’m finding great comfort in spending time with the birds. I’ve even got my trunk set up like a cafeteria, every-thing ready for me to access when I get to the feeding areas. Some days it is just too cold to be fiddling with seed bags that are still factory sealed, Or get to the suet blocks that are still in their retail packaging.

I have been eyeing some of the cameras and the special lens attachments that the serious cameramen are toting. So far I’ve only gotten to the stage where I am making enquiries .. and talking to them about their equipment. The reality at the moment is that by the time I get to the feeders, asses what needs to be replaced, fill and relocate feeder trays etc. I’m usually dealing with frozen fingers.

My son was over for lunch the other day, he has been working on his piano, taken it all apart and has been rebuilding it so that it has the sound he is looking for. While I marveled at the pictures he was showing me of his piano in pieces… I spied the above picture. “Oh that, just a shovel guitar I built for someone who wanted one.” Excuse me, a shovel guitar!! I’d never heard of one, later when I was telling one of my friends, he knew all about ‘shovel guitars” it seems they are used in certain kinds of music. the chap who had wanted this one, was going to play the “slide guitar” on it. I thought it very creative.

One is never too old to learn. It is actually amazing what creative minds can do.

Have a wonderful evening.. I’m off to see if I can catch any videos with a shovel guitar being used. I did hear a clip being played on the one shown.. it really did have the sound of a slide guitar!!!

Xmas surprise

Action figure Pennywise from the Stephen King movie It

What a hoot. My whole theme this year was action figures and personalities from the world of adventure and super powers. I had not said a word about what I was doing.. so imagine my surprise and delight when I opened my nephews gift to find Pennywise staring back at me. You all know how in September I start gearing up for my creative month of October.. my FUN month. The unexpected is always such a “wow”.

If Santa came your way overnight, and was anywhere where the rain was, he would have been one wet Santa. The rain princess was not happy about having to perform “off season” her performance, at least here in this area, was full all out staccato, it was as if she said, “you want rain, I’ll give you rain” and then just lashed out.

This morning all is calm, not bright, but quiet and very wet. Still very mild too. What I noticed was that the little evergreen that has been sitting there all summer just “sitting”.. seems to have sprouted approx. 12 inches. I hadn’t noticed before. Could be because much of the accumulated snow has been washed away. Whatever, she looks happier. She obviously loved the rain, its perked her up.

From one happy little tree at our house, to everyone out there who is sharing this moment with us, we wish you a very happy and merry Christmas Day.

“To every cloud there is a silver lining” someone said that.. I believe it to be true.

PS. I have been up making dumplings for my son’s lunch, and I’m going to cook turkey and his favourite sausages to go with the dumplings, … I know he should visit more often right =^_^= so… to my friend Bonnie, no I won’t be eating out of a can today =^_^=…

breakfast meeting place

Good morning. I thought I’d share with you my breakfast nook. When I arrive and park, I enter the woodlands where you see the big rock, and the path divides. My feeder tables are down the trail on the right. When families come, they stop there to watch and/or feed the birds.
With the forecast for heavy rains, starting up this afternoon and lasting into tomorrow.. warnings are of record rain, and possible flooding! I took myself off there this morning to top up the feeders. As many of you know, being out in nature, listening to the birds, and basically just being with them.. is very therapeutic.

Good or bad it is our mirror. Sincere expressions invite good results, but insincere expressions can lead to unexpected trouble.
