meaning – loss

2015b

What??  I don’t know, back in 2015 I saw this photo and was intrigued at what it was, what it meant, where it came from.  If I found out, I didn’t record it, so in my files this is what I found, now Feb. 24. 2019

Doing a tidy up, I found a card a group of friends sent me when my husband passed away, “on the loss of your husband”  Store bought, from the American Greeting co. in the States, I reread the message.

“They say life goes on just give yourself time to mourn, and accept and to heal,  Though none of that offers much comfort right now with the sorrow and loss you must feel…  but, there in your heart where you miss him the most where friendship and love never cease, somehow you know that he’d  want nothing more than to see you find comfort and peace”

As I digested the words of sympathy my friends had sent me, my eyes fell on today’s PL calendar, for day 24

Things that happen to us all have a meaning

Everything that happens to us happens for a reason.  Each and every occurrence is a chance for you to improve yourself.

It is with gratitude that I start my day, and appreciation for you my friends who keep in touch, drop in,  the distance, the miles, time zones, disappear, when I say I appreciate each and every one of you.  I do.  My heart sings with joy when you say hi…  the like button, the thoughtful hellos, and cheerful input,  the nudge now and then, all blessings.

“I have walked that long road to freedom.  I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way.  But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. ” Nelson Mandela

The other day, this pond was quiet, still.

Yesterday it was populated with a gaggle of ducks happily enjoying the sunshine of an early fall day.

me and you

april 25. Q china dream

There are days when I am not really the person that I think I am.  Instead I am far away in another land.

On one hand, I feel no pain, and roam free across the plains

On the other, I am grounded, focused on the sounds all around  me

who am I really, I can be here and everywhere

nothing can hold me back, there is nothing that I lack

Last year when my Mother was bidding farewell to her years on earth, my sister who was staying with her. Passed the time, drawing and colouring, memories of another time.

Change happen, with “progress” comes destruction, to “make way” for “infill”  buildings that are meant to fill in where older homes , single family homes with laneways, garages that held the cars that used to fit inside them, and usually have pretty front lawns, and backyards, big enough for small patios and gardens, either filled with flowers in season, or vegetables.

Now these homes when their owners pass away, are taken over by builders who tear them down, and put in two homes on a lot that was meant for one.  Usually, architecture that is cold and sterile.  Forget a lawn or garden spaces. Cement, pavement and more cold man-made materials, usually in various shades of grays and blacks.  Garages if there, are usually part of the main floor, still usually too small for the bigger cars of today, so they end up always outside parked on the single space of the paved front of the dwelling.

Sad, but that is progress. If you are near, or can easily get to green space.  Treasure it. Take the time to enjoy it. Listen to the birds when they visit (if they do) enjoy the fresh earthly smells of spring,  and watch as the young flowers unfold to embrace another season of “life”

Life, can be fleeting.  Live in the moment.  Enjoy each and every second of your day.  don’t wait till it fades away.

PL Precept # 16  All things progress and develop.

death and dying

For me, mixed media 4.18.17

I was chatting with friend the other day,  since cancer is now factored into my life, we were discussing how people react to the word. It was interesting to note, that when I said that cancer was much like being told you are diabetic.  She did not agree.  Her reasoning was that cancer usually  meant death.  I understood that she felt that being diabetic your chances were much better. Diabetes is known as the silent killer.

We are born to die.  Death is something we all face.  A perfectly healthy person, can drop dead without warning.  Perhaps they were borderline.. high blood pressure, maybe it was cholesterol, or like my husband, out of nowhere, after living a lifetime with his heart, and never having a problem,  he was told, he  had an irregular heart beat and it was problamatic to his cancer treatments ?

I fail to see why cancer gets top billing, and why because someone gets the cancer card, it is deemed gloom and doom.  Sure there are difficult times, but someone with a gall bladder issue, will be driven almost insane with the pain that they endure till something is done about it.  A kidney stone,  is not a joking matter either.  And ladies, how about that 9th month party of labour pain and the utter joy of the delivery room.

Cancer is a wicked surprise, and it is a challenge, however, we still go to bed each night and wake every morning.  How we choose to make use of our time while we are awake and greeting the day, is our choice.  The love of life, and the understanding that this is not the time to squander our moments, means that life is full.  Love continues to grow and shine it’s light into our activities.

There is an appreciation of the blessings that we have been able to share, and continue to share.

There is no escaping death, whatever circumstances we find ourselves in, we are alive, and we will continue to live until the day/night comes when we go beyond what is here and now.  Then, we will be forever/always.

No more, no less.

an angel takes flight (Georgina)

9.25 bye Georgina_003

My sister in law was a strong resourceful woman, she battled with medical problems what seems like forever.  Yet she raised her family, say her children marry, and then the blessing of grandchildren.   Had she stayed around, she and my brother in law would have celebrated I believe their 49th. anniversary.

9.25 bye Georgina_001

The last few years saw her visiting the train station, more than I’m sure she wanted to, but an intelligent woman, she knew that a journey was soon to come. I never failed to marvel at her sense of “life” no matter her physical limitations, she always had an aura of vibrancy and life the emanated  from her.  Everyone who met her, dealt with her, enjoyed her presence. Even in the greatest discomfort, she made you feel welcome by her side.  A “true lady”, genteel, she will be greatly missed.

She was a ray of sunlight that shone just a tad brighter than most.

9.25.georgie_008.png

The last few days, we saw the skies cloud over, we felt the murmur and call of the Universe.

9.25.georgie_010

One night the stars shone extra brightly, the next morning, we knew, she had spread her wings and flown home where she will shine down on us from up above.

9.25.georgie_002

The sunbeams that dance across the lakes, and caress the changing seasons, will always be a bit of Georgina, reminding us, she is not far away,  Her legacy and faith in “life” will always BE.

Rest in Peace dear friend, you will never be forgotten..

Travel safe my friend – goodbye

goodbye Lizzie 9.18.17_008.pngLizzie was an artist with a thirst to create, not just anything, everything she did was alive and vivid, just like her. Her creativity knew no bounds.  When she first was told she had cancer, she said, OK, let’s deal with this.. and did what she needed to do, she beat the odds.  Once, twice, the little vixen fought her way to live another day.

goodbye Lizzie 9.18.17_005

This last fight, she grew weary. She laid down her brush,  with the quiet dignity of the true diva she was, she spread her wings and took flight beyond the heavens into the “night”..

goodbye Lizzie 9.18.17_009

We will miss you Liz, your energy and spirit,  a diva  warrior like no other,  will forever glow in our hearts.  Rest in peace.

Happy land

dragon, start of.. 4.30.17

Once upon a time a dragon came to visit.  “Oh” said I, ” what pretty colours you are! ”

“hmmmp” he said, “I’m just passing through”

So, I took a picture of him and posted him on Instagram, I went about my day and didn’t think much more about him.  I was having a “dragon” kind of day, and really wasn’t that interested in what he had to say.

The next day, I was busy with activities that I couldn’t put away.  Today was the day, so I had to be present and social in a “family” kind of way.  By mid day, after guests were gone and I was now back home on my own.  All I could think of was that I wanted to pray.  It was pouring rain, the clouds were bleak and gray, but nothing was going to stand in my way. The quiet, tranquility of the church, the peace of love and community, was drawing me, like a moth to a flame.

Silently I prayed, my words and thoughts, came, they flowed, they flew into the air, the heaviness, the pain, slowly drained away.  PL Precept # 11  Always be with God.

PL Principle #2  I will not have complaints about others, matters, nor the weather.  Rather I will always be creative and will look for short comings in my own thinking and actions,

When I came home, the dragon looked at me and winked.  The brat I thought.  I reached out and with   steady hand, and knowing actions, his friends came to light.

Just like that… the dragon smiled, his friends pranced and I was smitten with their charm.  My grin went from ear to ear… life is good when we believe and trust in God
